That brat hadn’t changed a bit—still as temperamental as ever after days apart. He couldn’t care less about that unpleasant face. Seeing his granddaughter-in-law was far more appealing. "Young Madam," Aunt Naomi answered truthfully, "is also in the study." Both of them in the study? Grandpa Luther halted mid-step and shot Aunt Naomi a sharp glance. "Why didn’t you tell me sooner?" Auntie Naomi wore a helpless smile on her face." Well, you never asked, sir." "No wonder that rascal looked like he’d swallowed a firecracker," Grandpa Luther muttered, continuing his descent down the staircase, his deep-set eyes crinkling with quiet delight. "Seems I’ll be holding a great-grandchild in my arms soon enough." Before the words had fully left his lips, he chuckled again. "A great-granddaughter would be just as lovely—pretty and sweet like Camilla. Just the sight of her would brighten anyone’s day." As he spoke, his mind began to race, already conjuring names for the great-grandchildren who existed only in his hopeful imagination. "If Auntie Naomi came looking for you at this hour, it must be something important. You should go see—" Her words were cut short as the man interrupted. "It seems I haven’t been thorough enough if you still have room for other thoughts." From that moment on, Camilla truly couldn’t spare a single thought for anything else. Time slipped away in a blur, and before they knew it, another half hour had passed. "Darling," Sinclair paused at the crucial moment, pressing a tender kiss to Camilla’s flushed cheek. His voice, strained and hoarse to the extreme, carried the weight of a solemn declaration. "Let’s have a child." That way, their bond would be sealed not just in heart, but in blood and flesh. "Yes." Camilla answered without hesitation. Love overflowed, wrapping them in a world where only the other existed. Meanwhile, in the living room downstairs. Grandpa Luther had just reached the staircase when a small figure suddenly darted toward him, nearly colliding with him. "Grandpa, look out—!!" Aunt Naomi cried out in alarm, swiftly stepping forward to steady the elderly man. "Are you alright, sir?" Though grandpa Luther was advanced in years, his sturdy frame remained imposing. He merely staggered slightly from the impact, while the small figure who had collided with him stumbled backward two steps before landing hard on her bottom with a dull thud. "I’m fine, but this little one took quite a spill," grandpa chuckled, waving a dismissive hand. "Quick, help her up and see if she’s hurt." "...Right away," Aunt Naomi replied, exhaling in relief only after confirming the grandpa was unharmed. She hurried over and gently lifted Carie Ann to her feet, dusting off the girl’s clothes while checking for injuries. "Why were you running so fast? Are you alright?" Carie Ann clutched the spot where she’d hit the ground, biting back tears as she shook her head. Her clear, watery eyes, however, remained fixed on grandpa Luther, brimming with concern. In her haste, she hadn’t watched where she was going—had she hurt this kind-looking grandfather? Grandpa Luther, in turn, studied the jade-skinned, doll-like child with amused curiosity, his eyes twinkling. "And who might this little lady be?" Just as he’d been yearning for a great-granddaughter, one seemed to have fallen straight from the heavens! Grandpa Luther gazed at the little figure before him with grandfatherly affection. "This is Carie Ann. Ms Camilla rescued her from human traffickers," Auntie Naomi explained briefly, recounting how Camilla had saved Carie Ann and brought her home. "I see," Grandpa Luther nodded, his eyes crinkling with emotion. "Camilla did the right thing. Losing a child can destroy an entire family. The laws against these traffickers should be much harsher." With Auntie Naomi’s help, Carie Ann stood up, ignoring the sting from her fall, and toddled over to Grandpa Luther. She took his aged hand in her chubby little one and began tracing characters painstakingly on his palm. Before long, her tiny brows furrowed in frustration. "Grandpa, sorry... I hurt you..." She clearly struggled with the last two characters. Grandpa Luther’s face softened into a warm smile. "Good girl, Grandpa’s fine." But Carie Ann wasn’t satisfied. She moved to his side, gently rubbing the spot where she’d bumped into him while puffing out her little cheeks to blow soothing breaths over it. Grandpa Luther grew fonder the more he looked at the child. He crouched down with a warm smile and asked, "Sweetheart, would you like to come with Grandpa to the backyard garden for a little while?" Carie Ann glanced at Aunt Naomi, then back at the kind grandpa before her, and nodded with a bright smile. Without hesitation, she even reached out to take his hand, leading the way toward the garden. Aunt Naomi followed behind, watching Grandpa’s delighted expression with quiet amusement. She couldn’t help but muse to herself: Mr. Sinclair was never like other children—never cared for toys or games. Poor Grandpa Luther never got to dote on him the way he wanted, never had much of that so-called family joy. *Now, it seems Carie Ann is making up for all that.* But Carie Ann was a child who took her time warming up to people. "Whether it’s nonsense or not, you two know better than I do." Her eyes remained locked onto him, unblinking. "But then again, I must admit I underestimated you all these years." Tamara clung to Jonathan’s chest, one hand covering her cheek, a smug smirk hidden beneath her feigned distress. "Margaret... Miss Margaret" she stammered, lifting her face with exaggerated timidity. "You’ve misunderstood Jonathan..." Her words weren’t so much an explanation as they were fuel to the fire. "Shut your mouth!" Tamara’s fury flared instantly at the sight of Tamara’s feigned fragility. "Who gave you the right to speak, you conniving old hag? I’ll teach you a lesson!" As she spat the words, she lunged toward Tamara again, her face twisted with rage. "Margaret—" Tamara shuddered and shrank behind Jonathan, her fingers clutching his sleeve like a frightened child. "Margaret, this is a hospital. Tamara is still injured," Jonathan said, stepping between them. His expression darkened, though his voice softened in an attempt to placate her. "Whatever you have to say, we can discuss it at home." "You’re still defending her?" Blinded by fury, Margaret’s eyes blazed as she swung her hand at Jonathan’s face. *SMACK!*
