Chapter 71: Summoner affiliated to the forbidden family [Mass release 5/6] The military officials stormed in, fully prepared to restrain Kairos. They anticipated his resistance and had come armed with guns loaded with sedative darts, designed to put him to sleep before he could retaliate. And from the way things appeared, they would strike before he even had the chance to move. Kairos clenched his fists. He knew he was too late to react—too slow to block what was already in motion. Even if he somehow broke free from the grip of the two men pinning him down, it wouldn’t matter. ’Fuck... they’ve got me!’ But just as the soldiers raised their weapons and prepared to fire, the door swung open with a violent crash, echoing through the room like a thunderclap. A powerful voice pierced through the tension. "How dare you lay a hand on him!" Every person in the room froze. Their heads turned slowly toward the door, all eyes now locked on the two figures who stood at the entrance. One of them was Carlos, the other, Darnell. Some of the younger soldiers gave Carlos threatening looks, clearly unaware of who he was. But among them, a bald officer’s eyes widened in recognition. The color drained from his face. "Wait! Let go of the boy!" the bald man shouted suddenly, his voice urgent and panicked. The confusion among the soldiers was immediate, but they obeyed without question. Kairos was released at once, the grip on his arms vanishing. He rose to his feet slowly, pushing the two men aside with a firm shove, his glare heavy with disgust and confusion. Carlos stepped forward, his presence commanding. Every soldier who dared to question him was met with a cold glare and a strange word—one even Darnell didn’t understand. And yet, with just that single word, they all backed off. Carlos had arrived just in time. When he saw the soldiers rushing into the room, he and Darnell had followed, uncertain of what they’d find. Now, faced with the sight of Kairos nearly captured, Carlos didn’t hesitate. "This boy is under my supervision," he declared firmly, his tone sharp with warning. "That means he belongs to my faction. If any of you dare lay a hand on him again, it won’t just be a mistake—it’ll be a declaration of war against my family." His words cut through the room like a blade. The tension skyrocketed. No one moved. He had effectively drawn a line in the sand, daring them to cross it. A challenge against the military... for a single boy. Darnell stood quietly beside him, shocked by the authority Carlos wielded. He couldn’t hide his confusion—how did Carlos have this much power? What kind of family was he from? The bald officer bowed his head. "I’m sorry," he said quickly, voice filled with dread. "We didn’t know he was claimed by your family. Please, overlook the military’s mistake." Darnell’s eyes widened further. He turned to Carlos with awe and just a little fear. ’Who the hell is this guy?’ The soldiers in the room all seemed to share the same question. Who was this boy that a faction—feared even by the military—would protect like this? And who was Carlos, whose words alone brought trained soldiers to their knees? "Come over here, Kairos. We’re leaving," Carlos ordered, already turning toward the door. He spat on the ground in disgust before stepping out. "I’ll overlook this once... but there won’t be a second time." He left the room, his steps echoing in silence. No one stopped him. No one dared. Kairos followed shortly after, bumping rudely into a few soldiers who stood in his way. He didn’t care. He walked straight to Darnell, grabbed his wrist, and pulled him out with him. ’Thank God I made Carlos a friend...’ Kairos’s mind was racing as they hurried to catch up with Carlos, who led them down the corridor without a word. They didn’t speak until they were far from the military compound. The silence hung over them like a thick fog. "What I did..." Carlos finally said, his tone low and void of any satisfaction, "don’t think it changes anything. You’re still in danger. Still on the list to be turned into an experiment." He paused, then added with a faint trace of bitterness, "I just thought it’d be better to be experimented on by my family than by the military." Kairos listened. He understood. Carlos hadn’t solved anything—he’d simply delayed the inevitable. By placing Kairos under his faction’s protection, Carlos had bought him time... but also claimed him. And that meant his family could pull him from school anytime they pleased—turning him into their own personal lab rat. But it was still a better choice. ’I still appreciate it,’ Kairos thought, giving a small nod. His mind wandered. How powerful was Carlos’s family, exactly? Even Rivet had seemed wary of him. And now the military had backed off completely at the mention of his name. But what made Carlos or his family so terrifying? "Hey Carlos," Darnell finally broke the silence. "What the hell is your faction? Your family? Why does everyone fear you so much?" Carlos let out a quiet chuckle, but it wasn’t a light one. There was weight behind it—darkness. "With what you already know..." he said, turning slightly to glance at Darnell, "that’s already enough reason for me to kill you. So if I were you, I wouldn’t want to know more." The air grew heavy. Darnell felt it—raw, unfiltered bloodlust radiating from Carlos’s presence. It sent a chill down his spine. He raised his hands quickly. "Damn. Okay. In that case... keep your secret. I’m not that curious anyway." Kairos let out a short chuckle. "Thank you guys... for coming after me. It’s something new to me. People showing up... for me." Carlos looked at him, slightly furrowing his brows. There was something strange in Kairos—something emotionally distant. The way he spoke made Carlos wonder. He acted like the concept of friendship was foreign, like kindness was an anomaly. ’I’d really like to know what your story is, Kairos... why you’re so closed off.’ Darnell grinned, trying to lighten the mood. "Come on, man. We’re friends. Act like it. Besides, I’m starting to wonder what the girls are up to anyway." --- Meanwhile, General Albert stood alone in his private office, his knuckles white as he gripped his phone tightly. He was listening to one of his attendants ramble on the other end, and with a frustrated growl, he squeezed the device with all his strength—until it shattered in his hand. Bits of plastic and glass fell to the floor. "Hell no! Arrrrgh!" he roared, rising to his feet. With blind fury, he grabbed a chair and hurled it across the room. It crashed into the brick wall, splintering into pieces. "Damn that forbidden family... what a trump card!" he seethed, biting his lip so hard it bled. He had made his move early, acting on intelligence that Kairos had no family, no faction. He was a free asset—perfect for recruitment and experimentation. And yet... the forbidden family had claimed him first. "No..." he whispered, his fists trembling with rage. "I won’t lose him." His eyes burned with obsession. He didn’t know how, but he swore it to himself— "I will get Kairos Veyl from the Forbidden Family, no matter what happens, even if it means war..."
