Chapter 32: Summons Battle Class In the First Year building, within a particular room designated for questioning and judging students accused of violating school rules, Silver sat with a few high-ranking officials. Their metallic chairs groaned slightly under shifting weight, surrounding a matching table at the center of the dimly lit room. Opposite them were three students seated uncomfortably, tension hanging in the air like a shroud. Two of them were Mike’s close friends—Tom and Grey—and the third was a female student, Lyza, Mike’s younger sister. Her eyes were red and puffy, tears streaking down her cheeks as she tried to stay composed. It was clear that the trauma of her brother’s death weighed heavily on her. Silver had begun the questioning in a methodical manner, starting with those closest to Mike. His friends and sister were the most likely to provide the most insight, or at the very least, inconsistencies that could lead to the truth. From what Tom and Grey had confessed, they had both been assaulted by a masked figure. After the brutal encounter, the assailant had left them bloodied and unable to summon. The two had dragged themselves to the hospital and were still visibly shaken. They admitted the last time they saw Mike was when he excused himself to get extra chocolate. ’The love of chocolate really did him in,’ Silver thought to herself, shaking her head. As much as she wanted to keep suspicion on the trio, the timing and their injuries matched up. She had personally been at the hospital during the window of the incident and could vouch for their arrival. Their story, unfortunately, checked out. But Silver wasn’t one to take things at face value. Just to be thorough. "So," she began, her voice firm, "what kind of Summons do each of you possess? And how fast are they?" Tom was the first to respond. His voice trembled, betraying the anxiety building within him. He had never been the brave type, especially in moments like this. "My Summon’s a flight-type beast... It doesn’t have claws or real offensive strength," he said, nervously shifting in his seat. "It has tentacle-like ropes it uses to grab and toss things. It’s fast in the air, but that’s about it..." Grey followed next, his tone more composed. "Mine’s a hedgehog. A big one, armored and all. It burrows through the earth with ease, but... it’s not quick. Not good with aerial combat or fast retreats." Then came Lyza. "My Summon... It’s the same as my brother’s Flame Fox," she said, her voice cracking. None of them possessed the speed, agility, or clawed ferocity required to carry out the type of killing inflicted on Mike. The culprit had clawed through flesh cleanly and left marks indicating precision, not brute strength. From the students’ accounts, the masked man had skillfully disabled both boys without killing them. It took a high level of control to stop just before the fatal blow, and it was evident that whoever did it, knew exactly what they were doing. Silver was convinced. After dispatching the two friends, the masked man had likely moved on to face Mike. The trail of blood, the broken foliage, and, most notably, the torn piece of a black mask found near the scene of Mike’s murder—everything pointed to that sequence of events. Initially, Silver had considered the mask irrelevant. The battle had occurred near a waste disposal site, where torn garments and discarded junk weren’t unusual. But something in her gut urged her to pick it up, and she did. Even if it did have fingerprints—extracting the DNA of everyone in the academy, let alone from all of Titanfang, was an impossible task—she believed the truth would come to light through other means. So she leaned on intuition. "So," she continued, eyes narrowing, "do any of you know people Mike might’ve had issues with? Enemies? Fights? Grudges?" The trio paused, each sinking deep into thought. "He pisses off a lot of people, so we can’t say for sure," Tim muttered, placing a hand beneath his chin. He seemed frustrated, trying to recall any significant conflict Mike had before his death. Then, like a lightning bolt, a memory surged into his mind—Kairos and Carlos. Of all the people Mike had tangled with, they were the ones who had real potential for violent retaliation. He opened his mouth to speak— Wham! The doors burst open with such force that it echoed through the chamber. A group of soldiers stormed into the room, each clad in dark uniforms that announced their authority without words. "The investigation has been ordered to be called off," the lead soldier barked, his voice cold and unyielding. "The culprit has come forward and confessed to the General himself. He will be punished strictly under the General’s supervision." The soldiers wasted no time. They moved to the students and began pulling them up from their seats with unnecessary force, ignoring the confusion and protests in their eyes. Silver stood quickly, her eyebrows arching in disbelief. "Wait! At least tell us the name of the culprit!" she demanded. The lead soldier paused at the door, sighing. "Victor Hameo." As the name left his lips, the room fell into stunned silence. The three students stared, speechless. They looked at each other, blank expressions shared across their faces. None of them recognized the name. None of them had ever even heard of a Victor Hameo. Before anyone could ask another question, the soldiers dragged the students away and slammed the door shut behind them. Silver remained standing, her fists clenched at her sides. "Something’s wrong. Something’s really off about all this. I don’t believe a word of it... but there’s nothing I can do for now. I’ll just have to watch. Wait." — Meanwhile, the academy carried on with routine classes as if nothing had happened. Today was special—it was time for students to attend their sub-classes. Kairos had chosen to attend the Beast Summon Battle class, assuming fewer students would show up since it was elective. But as he stepped through the tall doors into the training hall, his assumptions were shattered. Dozens of students were already inside, chatting excitedly and filling up the space. The entire arena buzzed with anticipation. So much for less crowded, he thought, exhaling. As he made his way through the crowd, eyes turned in his direction. Whispers followed him. Some students murmured to one another, others gave him respectful nods. A few even waved. The duel with Rivet had clearly left a lasting impression. Kairos didn’t bask in the attention. He stood quietly at the edge, hands in his pockets, waiting for the instructor. He didn’t wait long. A man approached the podium—an older gentleman with a long white goatee, a bald head, and round glasses perched on the bridge of his nose. Unlike most youthful and muscular sergeants, this one bore the weight of age with dignity and strength that radiated from wisdom rather than muscle. "Hello, young students," he said, his voice creaky yet commanding. "I am Professor Goldrics... or Sergeant Goldrics. Pick whichever title suits your style." The room fell silent out of respect. Clearly, this was a man whose reputation preceded him. "Now, typically in your first sub-class session, a sparring match is in order. But I won’t do that with everyone—hahaha—I’m not insane!" He chuckled, tapping a finger to his temple. Debatable, Kairos thought, amused. "So instead," Goldrics continued, his voice rising with enthusiasm, "I’ll pick the strongest Summon users to demonstrate. A match for everyone to learn from." He lifted a small digital tab from his desk and glanced at the names on the screen. After a brief pause, he smiled. "Please step onto Platform One—Andre Veyna and Kairos Veyl." Kairos’s eyes widened. He had expected to be called out. He knew his Summon was among the strongest in the class. But his opponent? Veyna? That name rang familiar. Andre Veyna was a member of the Crimson Vanguard faction—just like Lina. Kairos could already feel the weight of the upcoming battle. This would not be an easy match.
