Chapter 33: Summoner’s force of a Legendary summon The platforms for the battle were vast and elevated, closely resembling those of the Summoners Battle Class. However, unlike the typical ones used for duelists, these platforms had more expansive space—designed specifically for battles between large summons. There were many platforms to choose from, but for today’s duel, the ideal choice was Platform One. Standing at the center of the platform were two figures. On one end stood Kairos, calm but alert. On the other side was his opponent—Andre. The blonde-haired boy stood tall with a smug grin, his appearance nearly aristocratic. With dashing features, a chiseled physique, and an air of arrogance, Andre radiated the confidence of someone who’d never known failure. In comparison, Kairos looked almost pitiful—unkempt hair, calm posture, and a face that wore no emotion. But his silence wasn’t fear. It was calculation. "Do you know the most feared beast to man? A threat we once believed far greater than even the Nyxaris when they attacked?" Andre’s voice echoed across the platform, loud and boastful, demanding attention as he spoke. Kairos stared blankly at him, offering no response. "It was the dragon," Andre continued, his voice swelling with pride. They love to talk nonsense.’ He didn’t reply, instead raising his hand and summoning his Shadow Wolf, a creature cloaked in living darkness. It emerged beside him, silent and poised, its ominous presence radiating an unnatural stillness. Its eyes gleamed with a predatory gleam, and even the most skeptical students watching from the sidelines couldn’t help but gasp in shock. Some had only heard of it in whispers, and others hadn’t believed it could exist. Now, seeing it for the first time, there was awe and fear all around. But power wasn’t measured by appearances alone, was it? Andre burst into laughter, slow-clapping as he stared at the Shadow Wolf. "So that’s what a legendary summon looks like?" he said mockingly. Then, the air around him began to distort. A swirling mist of white smoke coiled around his feet. From within it rose a towering beast—large and fearsome. It looked like a colossal snake with massive wings sprouting from its back, and two muscular arms equipped with sharp claws supporting its upper frame. Its lower half remained on the ground, coiled and twitching. "This is my White Wyvern," Andre declared with pride. Kairos clenched his jaw. Andre was exactly the kind of person he hated—overconfident, dramatic, and loud. Andre stretched his hand forward and shouted, "White Wyvern, tear apart that useless Shadow Wolf!" At once, the Wyvern sprang forward with terrifying speed, leaving a gust of wind in its trail. It was nearly impossible to follow. Even Kairos found it difficult to react in time. Fortunately, the Shadow Wolf had become faster, sharper—more instinctive. It raised a paw just in time and slashed at the incoming Wyvern. But the beast blocked with one of its massive wings, the clash echoing like metal on metal. Without a second’s pause, the Wyvern whipped its tail like a club and smashed it into the Shadow Wolf’s side. The Shadow Wolf was hurled several feet away, crashing onto its back with a resounding thud. "Get up, Shadow Wolf!" Kairos called, gritting his teeth as he saw the Wyvern preparing for another strike. There was no time for the Shadow Wolf to recover. The White Wyvern launched itself again, lunging for the wolf’s throat—this time even faster than before. But just as the jaws of the Wyvern closed in, the Shadow Wolf vanished. Gasps erupted from the crowd. One second later, it reappeared—right behind the Wyvern. "Now! Dark Crescent!" Kairos shouted. The Shadow Wolf obeyed. Its tail lashed outward and from it, a dark crescent-shaped beam exploded forward with blinding speed. No one saw it until it hit. The Wyvern was sent flying, slammed by the force of the attack. It crashed onto its back, its shrill cry piercing the air as thick, dark blood spilled from the wound across its back. "What?! How is that possible?!" Andre’s composure cracked. His jaw dropped, disbelief flooding his face. His summon was an evolving one, yet it had been struck down in seconds. "Get up! Use Tornado Attack!" The Wyvern struggled, trembling, but obeyed. It rose shakily and let out another ear-piercing shriek. From its mouth erupted a fierce gust of wind that formed into a visible tornado. The vortex surged forward, heading straight toward the Shadow Wolf. It was meant to end the match. But the Shadow Wolf had seen enough. The moment the attack reached it, the wolf disappeared once more and emerged behind the Wyvern. It lunged with deadly precision, its fangs sinking deep into the Wyvern’s hind neck. The White Wyvern screamed again. Dark blood gushed from its mouth and down its scaled neck. The entire crowd held its breath. Kairos stared in shock. It was happening again—like the time with Mike. His summon had gone too far once before, killing both summoner and summon. Was this history repeating itself? Was the Shadow Wolf about to evolve again? He couldn’t allow that. "No!" he whispered. Without hesitation, Kairos stretched out his hand, ready to dismiss the Shadow Wolf even if it meant losing the match. But just as he was about to speak the dismissal word, a bright light flashed. The White Wyvern vanished. Everyone froze. Andre had recalled his summon—out of fear that it would be killed. The silence was broken by murmurs and shouts from the crowd. "Whoa! Kairos forced Andre to recall his summon!" "He beat Andre... without even going all out!" "I don’t want to ever face him!" Kairos stood frozen, stunned by what had just happened. He hadn’t dismissed his summon... Andre had. "Hohoho! Seems like Kairos wins!" Professor Goldrics announced, standing from his seat in excitement. The battle had gripped him from start to finish. But what was written on it? It burned in Darnell’s mind. It was a warning. The second-years had finally decided to attack his friends, despite the so-called deal he had made with them. "Ashen... that bastard!" he hissed. His boots pounded the floor as he ran, racing past the edge of the first-year zone and toward the building that separated them from the second-years. He burst through the doors—and stopped cold. Standing in front of him were three figures. Ashen. Radek. Keon. "You bastards!" Darnell roared. "How dare you threaten to attack my friends after the deal we made! It’s me you want, not them!" Ashen laughed mockingly, the sound cold and cruel. "Who told you we wanted you in the first place?" he sneered. "You were just second-rate entertainment. A test. And you passed—with flying colors. You’re a high-grade fool." He stepped forward, grinning. "Did you really think I’d make a deal with you? Hah! You ran here alone, thinking you could take on the three of us? Let me tell you something—I’ll break every bone in your body. And then I’ll do the same to your friends. Before today ends, half your dorm will be in the infirmary. Because I’m going all out!" Darnell’s eyes burned with rage. They had used him. Played him like a toy. And now they wanted to drag innocent people into their mess. ’I know I can’t beat them all...
