Chapter 37: Summoners of the second Year Brawl Kairos watched with weary eyes as the massive spider summon, Garan, loomed before him. It towered with an intimidating presence, its glossy black exoskeleton glinting under the arena lights, each limb ending in razor-sharp points. Compared to his own summon, Garan felt like a walking nightmare—something born not from magic but from terror itself. Kairos gritted his teeth. He knew he couldn’t win this fight alone. With a focused breath, he stretched his hand forward. A pool of dark, swirling smoke materialized beneath his feet, bubbling and twisting like an angry storm. From within it, his loyal companion emerged—a shadow wolf, sleek and menacing, its eyes glowing like twin lanterns in the night. "Be careful, Shadow Wolf," Kairos said in a hushed but firm voice. "This enemy... it’s not like the others we’ve fought before." The shadow wolf gave a low growl in acknowledgment, crouching low, its gaze locked on Garan. Kairos spun around quickly, eyes darting toward Lina who stood nearby. There was no time to waste. "Quickly, address those idiots! I’ll keep this monster busy, but I won’t be able to win unless you rally them." Lina’s eyes widened, but she nodded. She took several steps back, then turned to face the rows of stunned first years sitting in the audience. "Are you all just going to sit there and watch?! Watch them beat you down like trash?!" she shouted, her voice echoing through the stone chamber with fierce authority. "No wonder you’ve been picked on and humiliated! This is your chance—fight back! Fight and show them we’re not weak!" At first, silence. Then movement. One brave student finally snapped—lunging at a second year with a scream of pent-up rage. That single spark was all it took. Like a wildfire, chaos erupted in the audience stands. Summons were called forth in a flurry of light and smoke. Creatures roared, spells clashed, and the stands became a battleground of their own. Students tumbled off platforms, beams of magic crashed into walls, and roars echoed from summon to summon as battles ignited everywhere. It was absolute chaos. But it was part of the plan. Down below, the real fight began. The shadow wolf was the first to make a move—disappearing in the blink of an eye, merging into the shadows, and reappearing directly beneath Garan. Its claws slashed forward, aiming for the spider’s lower abdomen. But Garan moved like a phantom. One of its massive legs struck with stunning speed, stabbing into the side of the shadow wolf and launching it through the air. The wolf smashed into a wall with a sickening thud and dropped to the ground, growling and twitching in pain. Kairos’s eyes widened. The shadow wolf shook its head, slowly rising to its feet—but Garan was already on the move, charging forward like a tank of sharpened limbs and fury. The spider pounced, its twin fangs glinting as it aimed to sink them deep into the wolf’s flesh. But the attack was too predictable. The shadow wolf vanished once more into darkness, then emerged behind Garan, a clear shot open at its back. Without hesitation, the shadow wolf lashed its tail, sending a wave of dark crescent beams slashing through the air toward Garan’s abdomen. The strike was powerful—but Garan reacted instantly. As if it had eyes on its back, the monstrous spider leapt into the air with surprising agility. The beams missed, tearing a hole in the wall behind it instead. Landing with a crash, Garan twisted its body and aimed its many eyes directly at the wolf. Its mouth opened wide—too wide—and a scorching blue beam burst from its throat. The shadow wolf barely had time to react. The beam struck directly into its shoulder, blasting it aside. The ground cracked from the impact as the shadow wolf tumbled and slid, letting out a painful shriek. It was bleeding. For the first time, Kairos saw it—his summon, injured and vulnerable. Blood spilled from the wound in thick pools, and the shadow wolf tried to stand, but its shoulder gave out. It collapsed again, growling through the pain. "Fuck..." Kairos hissed under his breath, fists clenched so tightly his nails dug into his palm. His worst fears were coming true. The second year was more experienced. His summon was not only stronger—it was also battle-hardened. It knew how to fight something like the shadow wolf. ’At this rate... Shadow Wolf will die. And if he dies...’ "Wow. Your summon stands no chance," Lina said, stepping beside him. She didn’t say it mockingly—just observing the truth. Then she stretched out her hand. A white pool of radiant energy formed at her feet, glowing like moonlight. From it rose a magnificent white griffon, wings spread wide, fur and feathers rippling like snowstorms caught in motion. It let out a cry that shook the walls. "It’s just like a spider. Many eyes. It’s an advanced summon. Even with me here... I’m not sure we can beat it," Lina added in a whisper, low enough that only Kairos could hear. Kairos nodded slowly, absorbing her words. The moment was dangerous. But he still had one trick left. Before the spider could move again, he reached forward and recalled his shadow wolf, pulling it back into his magic. It vanished in a swirl of smoke—just in time. Any further and it would’ve been too far to dismiss safely. "Just get your griffon to attack. I’ll handle the rest myself," Kairos said, voice firm. Lina hesitated. She looked into his eyes—and saw the unrelenting fire burning there. The same fire she had seen before. The same fire that had gotten him out of impossible odds. She nodded. "What the hell are those bastards whispering about?" Ashen muttered from afar. He swayed, barely conscious. A trail of blood dripped down his forehead from the earlier blow, and summoning Garan had drained his energy to the brink. But he wasn’t done. Not until Kairos was dead. "Attack, River!" Lina commanded. The white griffon let out a war cry and launched itself toward Garan, lightning-quick and agile. It weaved left and right in mid-air, confusing Garan’s vision. But all of Garan’s many eyes tracked its movements with horrifying clarity. Just as the griffon neared, Garan raised one of its bladed legs and slashed— SPLOOOSH! The strike landed. Lina gasped in horror. Her eyes locked onto Kairos. "What the hell was that?!" Kairos didn’t respond immediately. A small grin tugged at the corner of his lips. "We won." Just then, Ashen fell back, slamming into the ground. Garan’s massive form flickered—and then disappeared into a shimmer of light. Gone. Ashen’s eyes widened. His hand gripped his chest as blood spilled from a fresh wound. His breathing hitched. Panic set in. ’How... how did this happen?’ As darkness closed in on him, he realized it. ’I lost—’ Kairos’s vision swam, his breathing heavy. He replayed it all in his mind. Just before Garan was about to strike the griffon, he had acted. Using a shadow skill he had never tried before, he switched the positions of Lina’s griffon and Ashen himself—at the perfect moment. Garan had struck its own master instead of the White Griffon. And that single move had ended the battle. But that move had drained everything from Kairos. He collapsed backward onto the ground, panting. Lina looked at him, stunned. Her heart pounded, and her mouth parted in awe. ’This boy... He’s something else. I almost feel afraid to ever fight him... but it excites me even more.’ The chaos of the arena still rang with fighting—first years clashing with second years in a storm of revenge and rebellion. And then— BOOM! The heavy doors of the Blood Trials Arena burst open. Four figures stormed in—Sergeants Silver, Goldrics, Fed, and Carlos. Their presence silenced everything. "Enough of that!" Goldrics bellowed, his voice thunderous. "All of you—stop the fighting at once!" Instantly, the summons disappeared. Students froze. Punches stopped mid-air. Sergeant Silver stepped forward, fury in her eyes. "For the injustice, the beatings, and the forced battles we’ve witnessed and confirmed today..." she shouted, her voice ice-cold. "There will be consequences—for every single one of you." She scanned the crowd. "I’d brace myself... if I were you."
