It tilted its head and raised one of its clawed legs slowly, peering through the haze that remained. ’Was it really that easy to crush a human skull?’ it wondered. Something wasn’t right. The battlefield had fallen silent, too silent. The dust cleared further, revealing the ground where its target had once stood. Nothing was there. The Nyxaris stepped back slightly, its instincts sounding an alarm it didn’t understand. It scanned the room, confused and agitated. Then, it heard something—a voice, distant yet clear. Its gaze shot in the direction of the sound, and what it saw next made its expression twist in surprise. Its target, the one it had meant to kill, was no longer alone. Without hesitation, Lloyd had bolted from the stadium at inhuman speed. He didn’t take the hallway, didn’t bother with doors—he tore through the glass of the Infirmary building like a bullet, sensing the danger before he even saw it. And when he saw the Nyxaris raising its leg over Silver, he knew he had arrived at the last possible second. "You are fast," the Nyxaris commented, voice deep and composed, showing no trace of fear despite what it had just witnessed. Lloyd didn’t immediately respond. Instead, he tilted his head slightly, his eyes softening as he looked down at Silver in his arms. Their faces were close—so close she could feel the warmth of his breath brushing against her skin. It was heavy, yet controlled, the kind of breathing that came only after pushing one’s body to its limit. ’He ran... all this way for me,’ she realized, her cheeks flushing. "Thank you," she murmured shyly. Lloyd gave a subtle nod, understanding more than her words could express. She had pushed herself too far again, and he knew what that meant—Silver was the only person in the academy capable of healing near-fatal injuries within minutes, depending on their severity. But she had limits, and she had clearly reached them. With gentle care, he began walking through the battlefield, ignoring the Nyxaris entirely as he passed by it. Even the Abyssal-ranked beast that loomed in the corner paused its aggression, as if sensing something indescribable in the man who had just entered the fray. "Just wait there," Lloyd said, his voice low but commanding, "I’m coming." His words were like a sudden ripple in the air. Lloyd took his time as he walked through the halls, each step echoing with the soft clack of his shoes against the floor. Eventually, he reached a quiet room with a small bed. He bent down and placed Silver on it gently, laying her so she faced upward. "I’ll be back soon," he said, brushing a strand of hair from her face. "I’ll heal you when that’s done." Then he turned and left, stepping back into the battlefield—still at his own pace, still unrushed. The Abyssal-ranked beast before him let out a guttural growl, its hunger for blood resurfacing. Behind it, the Nyxaris stood, now fully healed and visibly furious. "I see you didn’t come here with any of your usual technology," Lloyd said coldly, examining the Nyxaris from head to toe. The beast could no longer tolerate the exchange. With a monstrous roar, it surged forward, claws sinking into the ground with each thunderous stride. It was agile—so agile that no normal human could have possibly tracked it. If any student had faced this creature, it would have meant instant death. But Lloyd was not a student. He saw the beast’s movement clearly, reading every twitch of its limbs, every shift in its balance. And just as the creature lunged to strike— It froze. A sharp sound pierced the air, and the next moment, the beast’s body collapsed to the ground—split clean in half. The cut was so precise, it took a second for the Nyxaris to even realize what had happened. Its eyes widened. ’How... how can a human be that fast?’ it panicked, watching Lloyd, who now stood with nothing but a simple core sword in hand. Yet it was not the weapon that terrified the Nyxaris. It was the man. It felt its body beginning to tremble—an involuntary reaction. Its legs began stepping backward on their own, driven by an ancient instinct of fear. Then, something even more terrifying occurred. "I’m your opponent. Why not put up a fight?" Lloyd said. The Nyxaris jolted violently. He was standing right in front of it—completely undetected. ’Impossible... I didn’t even sense him move!’ "No, I guess you can’t," Lloyd said calmly. In a flash too swift to comprehend, he unsheathed his sword, swung it upwards in a seamless arc, and sheathed it back in one fluid motion. The Nyxaris didn’t react immediately. Then, a thin line appeared across its neck. A heartbeat later, its head slid from its shoulders and hit the ground with a dull thud. The body followed, collapsing lifelessly. Lloyd exhaled slowly. ’So it’s an attack on the academy,’ he thought. But something didn’t sit right. His gaze shifted slightly, eyes narrowing. ’Kairos... he was heading to the Infirmary. Then why wasn’t he there? Why didn’t he help?’ He clenched his jaw, the realization blooming like a bitter flower in his chest. "I see... so that’s how it is," he muttered, his tone now laced with suspicion.
