Samuel merely looked at her, his dark eyes glimmering, as if fragmenting light, flickering on and off. “Oh.” He responded with a low hum, the end of his tone slightly uplifted, deep and melodious like a cello, yet there seemed to be a deeper meaning. Afraid he might inquire further, Scarlett switched the topic, asking how Samuel got to know the other party. Samuel simply said, “When I knew her, she claimed to be a visiting lecturer at the Sea City Taoist Academy.” Scarlett’s eyes flickered slightly, about to ask something, but he spoke first, “As for why we became acquainted, it involves my personal matters which I cannot disclose.” Scarlett pursed her lips, feeling as though her question had been tactically blocked. Scarlett was unaware that Boss Chalmers had already seen through her lie. Holding the bundle in one hand and the Thunderstruck Wood in the other, she quickly ran back to the Jennings family villa. Inside the Jennings villa, everyone had been startled by the explosion earlier. Her room was empty, causing concern until they saw Scarlett rushing back in, still in slippers meant for indoors. “Scarlett, where did you go? We heard a loud noise from your room just now, and everyone was worried sick. Why did you run out?” The second madam Odessa approached, her tone filled with urgency and concern, her gaze scanning Scarlett closely before landing on the items in her hand with an inexplicable expression, “You even picked up a tree branch?” Scarlett didn’t get upset at the mention of a tree branch; to outsiders, this thing indeed looked like just any ordinary piece of wood. She casually explained, “I was just conducting an air cannon experiment in my room, and it accidentally failed.” Third Madam Flora Xalvadora happened to be home today. This house isn’t occupied by just you.” Since the last incident, Adam had toned it down a bit but took this rare opportunity to catch Scarlett’s mistake, especially since Donovan Jennings and Luca Jennings were not home. Naturally, he didn’t hold back. Hearing this, Scarlett turned her head, but before she could speak, Lucas Jennings jumped in, “Nothing happened, right? It’s a small matter. My sister knows what she’s doing. How could she blow you up?” Lucas’s overt defense was too obvious, making Adam Jennings’ expression turn even sourer. Since that incident, the rascal has seemed like a different person, persistently following Scarlett around. He didn’t even go to pick Azura up from the hospital, and when Azura tried talking to him yesterday, he barely responded. It made one wonder if he’d fallen under someone’s spell. Recalling Azura’s hurt expression at the time, Adam’s face darkened further, “You say nothing happened, so nothing happened? Can you guarantee that?” He turned and directly confronted Scarlett, “Now that you’re back in the Jennings family, you can’t just act on impulse without considering others.” His words almost outright accused her of being selfish and lacking etiquette. Lucas was about to step forward and argue again, but Scarlett raised her hand, a charred twig directly blocking him. She looked at Adam on her own, “You’re right. This house is home to many people, and I can’t just make someone stop being noisy because it annoys me.” Her tone was calm, without a hint of retort, yet it made Adam’s face darken, “Who are you calling noisy?!” Lucas, unafraid of stirring the pot, cheerfully chimed in support, “Hey, whoever responds is who we’re talking about.” Adam’s face turned even nastier as he took a step forward, looking like he was ready to make a move. Odessa quickly intervened, “Alright, we’re all family here. Why so confrontational? Adam, you too, stop it.” Flora also pulled her son back, “You stop riling things up as well.” Given the presence of two elders, Adam couldn’t really do much. He huffed and was about to leave when Scarlett called out to him, “If I can prove that I didn’t affect anyone in this villa, will you dare make a wager with me?” Adam paused, his expression full of disdain as he turned to look at Scarlett, “How will you prove it?” Scarlett responded, “If you dare accept, I have a way to prove it.” Adam burst into laughter, a cold laugh, “Alright, what’s your wager?” Scarlett’s clear gaze lightly swept over Adam as she smiled faintly, “If I win, I don’t want to hear your voice for the next week.” “Pfft.” Lucas couldn’t hold back his laughter, while Adam’s face immediately darkened. He thought Scarlett was once again covertly calling him noisy, telling him to shut up! “Fine, I’ll bet with you! But it’ll be up to me to decide if it affects us! If you lose, you’re barred from doing anything I disapprove of while at home.” Adam assumed that with himself as the judge, Scarlett would naturally be wary, considering any disturbance meant she wouldn’t have a leg to stand on. Although the villa had soundproofing, it wasn’t absolute. As long as there was noise, he’d catch her out.
