It’s quite late now, so I won’t disturb you further. I’ll come by early tomorrow to apologize.” Scarlett Garrison decided to head back and take care of her little fox. Tomorrow, she would present a neat and clean Pretty Hamilton to the big boss. Samuel Chalmers looked at her earnest little face, his expression still quite neutral. He calmly nodded and then instructed the butler standing by. “See Miss Jennings home.” The butler nodded and courteously led Scarlett Garrison out. Even though they lived in the same neighborhood, he thoughtfully had someone drive a security patrol car to escort her and her little fox all the way to the Jennings Family’s doorstep. The butler, who had come out to see what was happening, was a bit taken aback when he saw Scarlett. He didn’t even know when the young lady left the house! Moreover, it seemed like the young lady was carrying a fox? “Miss Scarlett, this is...” After sending away the Chalmers family’s bodyguard, the butler looked at Scarlett and the little creature in her arms, unsure of what to ask first. Noticing that Scarlett was dressed lightly, he quickly ushered her inside. As soon as she stepped in, she saw Donovan Jennings standing at the bottom of the stairs, clearly waiting for her. And at the corner of the stairwell on the second floor, Lucas Jennings peeked his head, looking all ready to enjoy the commotion. As soon as Scarlett walked in, he noticed what she was holding and couldn’t help but point at her with a lowered voice. “What, what do you have there? We’re not allowed to have furry pets in the house!” Scarlett glanced at the ever-present young man and seriously asked him back. “If they’re not allowed in, then how are you here?” Lucas’s expression paused, his face showing clear naïveté, while Donovan burst out laughing. Realizing it a second too late, Lucas’s face flushed red as he was about to explode. “You!... ” “It’s late now, grandpa and the others should be asleep, right?” Scarlett’s casual remark extinguished Lucas’s brewing volcano in an instant. Though he was reckless, he always knew when he could be and when he couldn’t. No noise after nightfall, that was the Jennings family’s rule. Especially since grandpa went to bed early due to his age, waking the elderly abruptly wasn’t good for his health. Even as Scarlett backed Lucas into a corner, he could only suppress his rage, huffily turning around and tiptoeing upstairs. As Scarlett watched Lucas leave, she then turned to look at Donovan, no longer in her previous confrontational stance. She held her little fox, biting her lip, and said, “This is my pet fox. It found out I moved and came looking for me.” She paused for a moment, then added, “I rented a place for it outside, it will just stay here for one night. I’ll take it back first thing in the morning.” In other words, she wouldn’t cause trouble for the family. Listening to her, Donovan felt a hint of pain touch his heart. It was clear that she had been raising this fox before but kept it outside due to the Garrison Family’s refusal to let her keep it. Now, finally back at her own home, she hadn’t even thought about keeping it nearby. Her cautious manner only made Donovan feel heartache for her, alongside a growing resentment toward the Garrison Family. She was the young lady of the Jennings Family, his own sister, who should have been pampered from childhood, getting whatever she wished. Yet, the Garrison Family had worn her down so much that she didn’t even dare to bring up keeping a pet at home! “This is your home; at your own house, you can keep whatever you want.” Suppressing the tumultuous feelings toward the Garrison Family, Donovan stepped forward, his handsome face graced with a modest, gentle smile, his voice warm and assuring. Scarlett was visibly taken aback. “But didn’t Lucas say furry ones aren’t allowed...” “As you said, if he can come here, why can’t your fox?” Donovan raised an eyebrow with a smile, echoing Scarlett’s words to Lucas, while gently tapping the little fox on its head with graceful familiarity. Seeing Scarlett still staring at him dumbfounded, Donovan merely offered her a serene smile, his eyes, full of peony-like warmth and certainty. “Don’t worry, your brother’s here.” Those words made Scarlett feel a gentle warmth sweeping through her heart, a familiar yet profound sensation returning. Scarlett opened her mouth, instinctively wishing to say thank you. She vaguely remembered him saying, “You don’t need to thank your brother.” So she swallowed the words back and nodded obediently at him, “Okay.” Holding her little fox, she headed upstairs, and only when she closed the room door did she realize that an unbidden smile had slipped onto her lips. Looking down, she saw her little fox staring straight at her, eyes filled with curiosity. Scarlett quickly erased her smile, put on a serious face, and asked it, “Weren’t you supposed to stay put over there and not run around? You nearly got fried into a crispy fox tonight, did you know that?” The little fox seemed to understand her, jumping down to the floor, spinning innocently in a circle, and then indicating the backpack behind it. Its demeanor seemed to say, you moved, I sought refuge, no harm done. Scarlett snorted softly, crouched down, and finally relieved it of the tiny backpack it carried. When she saw the contents, she smiled ever so slightly. Besides Pretty Hamilton’s own can, the backpack contained her Vermillion Yellow Talisman Paper and some of her special tools. Earlier, after recovering from the car accident, she had spent three days in the hospital and had found someone to look after it during that time, but the little fox apparently worried she’d run out of “stock.” In reward, Scarlett petted the little fox’s furry head, then put away its belongings. Ever since she began learning magic from a master, she had rented a small place independently. It wasn’t just to hide her activities from the Garrison family but also to have somewhere for her belongings. So when Emma White kicked her out before, she hadn’t taken a single piece of luggage because all the important things weren’t in the Garrison Family’s house. Initially, she planned to settle here first, then find time to check on her fox. But unexpectedly, it managed to follow her here anyway. Hmm, although it got the place wrong. Even though it was late, Scarlett still took the little fox into the en suite bathroom, cleaned it up thoroughly, and then brought it back to bed for some sleep. Perhaps it was because the night’s events stretched late into the night. Scarlett woke up a bit later the next day. Staring groggily at the dreamy princess-style bedroom around her, it took her a while to fully grasp where she was. This was her new room. As she worked to adjust to the dainty pink bedroom, she suddenly heard a scream from downstairs the next second. “Ah! There’s a fox!!... Butler, come quickly!” And then another cry followed, “Where did the wild fox come from?!... Quick, catch it!” Scarlett was instantly wide awake, bolting upright, eyes darting around, and found the room empty. Hearing more screams rising from below, her expression shifted. Pretty Hamilton!!!
