However, just as her lips moved to speak, she suddenly realized the situation, noticed the curious gazes around her, and quickly changed her expression to one of confusion and disbelief. “Scarlett, where did you hear such things? Why would you believe such superstitions?” She continued with a pained look, “I know you’re now the eldest daughter of the Jennings Family. Your status has elevated, and I understand if you don’t want to acknowledge us, but there’s no need to make such absurd excuses. It’s really heartbreaking!” Scarlett Jennings looked at Emma White with a cold gaze, knowing that if today’s confrontation didn’t yield a result, the Garrison Family would continue to pester her. Having finally left the Garrison Family, she had no desire to entangle with them further. With a thought, Scarlett was about to take action when she heard a loud voice from outside the door. “I believe Miss Jennings!” Everyone turned their heads, and saw that it was Gideon Silva and his wife, carrying gift boxes, walking through the crowd directly to Scarlett’s side. Mrs. Silva glared directly at Emma White. “Miss Jennings is not the type of person who would forget her roots after climbing high. If she says that your family adopted her to change the Fate Chart, then you must have done it! If you’ve done it, then stop pretending here. Do you think everyone here is a fool?” All the fools: ??? Some felt inadvertently wounded. Most of today’s guests, invited by the Jennings Family, were those they held closer relationships with and were well familiar with the Silva Family. Mrs. Silva was well-known in the social circle for being kind-hearted and cultured; no one expected she could be this sharp-tongued. Especially for the newly acknowledged eldest daughter of the Jennings Family. Could it be that they knew each other before? Not just the guests, even the Jennings Family were puzzled but instinctively felt that Gideon Silva and his wife’s attitude was related to their rushed visit last night. They couldn’t figure out what Scarlett had done. Scarlett herself was quite surprised by Mrs. Silva’s forthright support, yet regardless of the reasons, she took note of this favor. Emma White, interrupted mid-performance by the sudden appearance of Gideon Silva and his wife, was displeased and wanted to continue arguing. Scarlett, already watching Emma’s every move, swiftly drew a Truth Talisman in the air with her fingers discretely before unleashing it towards Emma White. Emma White, unaware of anything, opened her mouth, and the words that came out were: “So what if I did? Our Isolde’s Fate Chart wasn’t good. The master said we had to find someone with a good Fate Chart to block disasters for Isolde to change our fate. Her Fate Chart was good, is it wrong to use it to give our Isolde a break?” Her words caused the faces of the guests present, including Timothy Garrison, to change abruptly. Isolde couldn’t help but scream, “Mom!” Emma White, too, belatedly realized what she had said, hastily covered her mouth, but within a second, the words spilled out uncontrollably, “Don’t think you’re impressive now just because you’re the eldest daughter of the Jennings Family. You were nothing but a tool in my home to switch the Fate Chart with Isolde! The master said as long as our Isolde keeps absorbing your good fortune, by the age of eighteen, the Fate Chart between the two of you could fully switch. Otherwise, why would I have let you easily leave and find your birth parents?” “What did you say?!” Donovan Jennings’s face turned as cold as ice at her words, and even Lucas Jennings and his brothers’ faces darkened. Though they did not like Scarlett, she was still a member of the Jennings Family. Internal conflicts were one thing, but outsiders bullying the Jennings Family meant they were looking down on them! This Garrison Family, truly outrageous! The surrounding guests were equally astonished. Originally thinking the words of the eldest daughter of the Jennings Family just now were ridiculous, they never expected them to all be true. With this revelation, Scarlett Jennings’s earlier fantastical words suddenly had an explanation. They didn’t believe that such a Fate Chart switch was possible but thought that the members of the Garrison Family were peculiarly superstitious. Timothy Garrison, sensing something amiss, hurriedly stepped forward to take Emma White away, his face shadowed and mouth saying, “Emma, are you relapsing again, spouting such nonsense?” He apologized to everyone, “My wife has a mild mental disorder that’s triggered by emotional upheavals; I’ll take her home now.” With two or three sentences, Timothy Garrison attributed the abnormal public confessions of Emma White to her condition, preparing to leave with her. Unexpectedly, as soon as he moved, Lucas Jennings and other younger members of the Jennings Family stepped forward to block their way. Donovan Jennings smirked, his voice icy, “Mr. Garrison, why so anxious to leave? It makes you look guilty.” He was already aware of Scarlett’s abilities and guessed that Scarlett was behind Emma White’s odd behavior. Naturally, he would not waste such a perfect opportunity. The Jennings Family, today, intended to aid Scarlett in completely tearing off the hypocritical mask of the Garrison Family! Scarlett Jennings knew the power of her Truth Talisman well. Seeing Lucas and others block them, she outrightly questioned Emma White, “Mrs. Garrison, are you really suffering from a mental disorder?” “Of course not!” Emma White retorted without thinking, her expression nearing tears yet still shockingly honest, “My husband just doesn’t want me speaking the truth; he’s always been so timid in his actions, unlike us women who are direct.” Timothy Garrison’s face turned black as coal. Was exposing Scarlett’s matter not enough, now she had to spill his secrets too? And to think, this was what she thought of him? Luca Jennings couldn’t contain his rage when he learned the Garrison Family treated Scarlett as a tool to ward off disasters for their daughter. He stepped forward angrily questioning, “What else have you done to my daughter?” “What could I do to her? She’s always been the one not recognizing her position.” “When she was little and brought home an injured bird, saying she wanted to keep it, I told her she was just a foster daughter, a freeloader, with what right to keep pets. I smashed it in front of her.” “Always a troublemaker since she was a child. She dared to fight Isolde for toys; I locked her in the attic for two days without food, until she behaved.” The Jennings Family’s faces turned exceedingly grave, and the surrounding guests looked on with sympathy. They thought that although the eldest daughter of the Jennings Family grew up away from home, at least she was adopted by a wealthy family and must have had a decent life. Little did they know she ended up in such a heartless household. Scarlett, unfazed by those around her, kept her gaze steady on Emma White and continued questioning, “What was your purpose for coming here today?” Without hesitation, Emma White replied, “Of course, to collect benefits! We raised you for so long, now that you’re the eldest daughter of the Jennings Family, aren’t you supposed to repay us? Jennings Family has a vast estate; it wouldn’t be unreasonable to give half of it to us.” At those words, the guests couldn’t help but gasp. The Garrison Family, their appetite was truly too large! To demand half the Jennings Family estate, they weren’t afraid it would be too much to stomach!
