So the purple-skinned, horned humanoids were the infamous Fellkin?! ’Fellkins in the orc camp?’ he pondered, observing from the shadows with a cold gaze as he slowly put some distance between himself and the area, just in case he needed to execute his plan to save Liora. ’Why?’ He couldn’t focus much on his thoughts, as Liora was in grave danger. Fortunately, it seemed there was no need to save her yet. "So, human." Khan began in human tongue, "How about you pledge to willingly serve me? If you do, I shall ensure your safety." Hal instantly fumed. This ugly, purple-skinned bastard dared offer such a disgusting deal? Naturally, Liora didn’t agree: "Just kill me. I’d rather die than serve your kind." Her response didn’t seem to ruin the Fellkin’s day, though, instead making the creature smile wider. "Heh, fine then, let’s play your game. I’ll enjoy slowly breaking you once my objective here is done." The next moment, Khan left, allowing Hal’s heart to calm while Liora’s sank even deeper into despair. She couldn’t help but think of the young man she had entered this dangerous area with, half-hoping he could save her while also half-hoping he wouldn’t even try. Aside from the 150 orcs in the camp, there were still a few out on hunts or performing other tasks, and there were also two Fellkin. Hal would only die, even if he tried. Just when Liora was lost in the thoughts she found solace in, a whisper sounded from her left, making her almost jump in startlement: "Hey, it’s me, Hal." It was only after hearing the voice identify himself that she managed to calm down, her heart racing faster, mostly in delight, despite her desperate wish not to feel that way. She was, after all, just a maiden. Liora didn’t want to die, and even if she did, she at least wanted to die knowing someone was there for her. "Hal?! Why are you here? Leave, quickly!" she shrieked in a whisper, her slightly excited tone betraying her words. Liora didn’t know why, but she felt glad and relieved that Hal was nearby, even if she couldn’t see him. His mere presence calmed her a great deal and even made her begin to hope without her realizing it. "Don’t worry. If even that Fellkin failed to detect me, then I don’t think these orcs can. Have you seen the Orc Shaman around?" "N-No, I haven’t seen one since I woke up..." "Good. Earlier, I saw the Hobgoblins preparing for war, to attack that brute camp I told you about, though the brutes didn’t seem aware they were about to be attacked. I suspect these orcs are also going to war soon, so I’ll try to break you out when there’s less security. Once you’re out of the cage, sprint south and meet up with Loki, alright?" Liora nodded, suddenly feeling weak. She didn’t know how Hal would break her out of the strange metal cage, as it mysteriously weakened spells, but she trusted him. If Hal said he would break her out, then he would. Liora then remembered something and informed her invisible comrade. "Oh, right. Hal, are you still there?" "Yeah." "I just realized what kind of brute creature you were talking about. They’re called trolls, I believe, and the ones we’re dealing with are Forest Trolls with high regeneration rates. You have to cut or blow their head off in one attack, or they’ll just regenerate..." "I see...thanks for the information," Hal said, scanning the surroundings and preparing to leave. "Well then, I’ll leave for now. Don’t worry too much, as I’ll stay on the periphery and keep observing. If you’re in danger, I’ll break you out immediately, so just stay alert while we wait for the perfect chance." Liora nodded, her heart feeling both relieved and ticklish once more. She no longer felt she was in too bad of a situation. Soon, Hal left and returned to where Loki was. He then searched for a good position from which he could see Liora without using the Spirit Sparrow, eventually climbing a high branch with Loki and settling there. Time inevitably passed, and night came. The natural runes lit up, illuminating the forest in a deeper blue than the one above the crater. Hal hadn’t expected that, given the pace of the orcs’ preparations, they wouldn’t attack that day, leaving him waiting for an opportunity longer than he had anticipated. To his surprise, days and nights passed. Weeks, even. The male Fellkin was giving Liora decent food and water, at least, so Hal didn’t need to make the extra effort of delivering any himself. Heck, she was even eating better than he was! Hal had deduced by now that the unrest between the three camps was all because of the Fellkin stirring things up. While he didn’t know what they were waiting for, despite being prepared to attack days ago, he didn’t plan on investigating. Instead, Hal focused all his energy on absorbing a few C-ranked cores to increase his mana in preparation, unfair as the improvements might be. At the end of the day, his aptitude was still really crappy. This was the only productive thing he could do while waiting for a chance to bail Liora out, though, so he kept on "wasting" the C-ranked cores. Who knew? Maybe the slight increase in Chaos Karma would make a difference. * * Meanwhile, in Aeloria City, a different kind of preparation was underway at the Grand Magic Academy. A silvery-blue-haired young man with a cold, detached gaze, holding a seemingly high-quality ice elemental staff, walked down the middle of a path formed by students. They watched him in awe as he headed toward the Deputy Headmaster’s office, a wizard squad of four people following behind.
