Chapter 140: Arcana Primis Cup: Grand Finals (4)’Damn it...’ Hal knew Felix would do this, but he at least hoped he would be confused for a few more seconds, allowing him a few more draws. He had already used more than 500 points now, and he believed he would have to spend a bit more to obtain another [Spatial Swap] card. Unfortunately, his location had already been bombarded multiple times, and he was lucky to avoid a direct hit for around five or so seconds. His fortune didn’t last for too long, though, as inevitably, he had to cast [Swift] and [Enduring] once more, running for his life and revealing himself. "Heh, there you are, rat," mocked Felix as he followed Hal with his gaze, controlling all his Void Eyes to focus their attacks on his opponent. A majority of the audience was pleased that Hal was forced out of his hiding spot and was now barely hanging by a thread once more. Nonetheless, he kept pressing the [Draw Card] function. The crowd was cheering for his defeat, while the few who bet a huge amount of coins on him desperately prayed for a miracle, unlikely as it was to happen. Felix Dargon was just too cunning, making it seem like he was the weakest link among the semifinalists before showcasing how monstrous he truly was. Unbeknownst to the young master, however, a tiny sparrow hovered above the stage, sharing its vision with its master. Hal couldn’t focus much on the Spirit Sparrow’s sight, since he was in a dangerous situation. But on the rare occasions he could, he would scan the entire stage, searching for the Void Core. ’What the f*ck, where is it?!’* he cursed inwardly, dodging another twenty or so blasts with a [Blink]. He just couldn’t spot anything. ’Damn it, did the sparrow not gain True Sight after all?’ But then, just as Hal was about to pull his focus away from the summon’s vision, he caught a glimpse of a Void Eye positioned at the far edge of the stage. It wasn’t firing Void Rays like the others, though it mimicked their actions of gazing at him. But Hal still wasn’t sure, and unfortunately, it didn’t seem like he would get a chance to confirm it anytime soon, as he was under heavy fire. The crowd’s jeering grew louder at his continuous evasive maneuvers. While his survival skills were quite impressive, if that was all he had to offer, then he might as well just give up now, no? They want him to fight back, at least. Sadly for the crowd, Hal continued running and dodging for another minute, though there were a couple of moments when he almost couldn’t, barely evading brushes with obliteration. If he lost focus for even a second, it would be game over. Hal also knew that if he approached the fake Void Eye too obviously and failed to destroy it, it would be next to impossible to attempt so again, as Felix would surely move to protect it. He had to pretend he didn’t have a clear plan, then shatter it in a single move. Although Hal wasn’t sure if that eye was the core, his intuition told him it was, and he had no choice but to trust it, especially as Felix had already begun hurling Void Blasts his way in growing frustration. Fortunately, he didn’t have to wait any longer, as he had finally drawn the card he needed after desperately surviving for so long, even losing the crowd’s support in the process. ’My turn!’ In the next moment, he cast another [Mist Veil], drawing more jeers from the crowd. "Dumb," sneered Felix, simply using the active Void Dimension above to suck out the mist. The moment he did, however, the young master was surprised to find that a [Glacial Shower] and a [Flame Tornado] had just emerged at Hal’s location. But Felix didn’t panic. He believed he knew what his opponent was up to. "I’ve long predicted your tricks, rat!" Felix quickly retreated into a Void Pocket, preventing Hal from targeting him with [Spatial Swap]. "You’re not who I want, though, dumbass!" Hal retorted with a victorious grin. He then disappeared the next second, replaced by the fake eye. Felix’s eyes widened just before an overwhelming pain struck his head. "AAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!" he screamed as the backlash of suddenly having all his mana sucked out by the Void Eyes hit him hard. Before the audience even realized what had happened, Felix fell on his back with a thud, leaving the crowd silent and wide-eyed. [Congratulations! You’ve earned 15,000 Chaos Points!] Even Akari was tongue-tied for a few moments. "WHAT THE HELL?!" the rising pop star shrieked in disbelief. It was only a few moments later that she realized her mistake. "P-Pardon my words. F-F-Felix Dargon is down! What happened? How did Hal Fennec turn things around?! Was he scheming the entire time?!" Normally, Akari would provide a decent explanation, but she truly didn’t know what had just occurred. Even Jhow, a veteran in the field, found it difficult to give a clear analysis. Everything had simply happened too fast! Naturally, the replay operator moved as though his livelihood depended on it. Because it really did. The people were dying to know what happened, and he was the only one who could give them an explanation. Soon, the much-needed holographic replay screen appeared above the stage, showing everything that had happened starting from when Hal cast his third [Mist Veil]. The replay then slowed down and zoomed in once the screen focused on Hal’s [Glacial Rain] and [Flame Tornado]. Everyone held their breath, their eyes glued to the holographic screen. "A... Void Eye?" Akari asked in confusion, turning to the seasoned Jhow for guidance. The older commentator, however, was still in the process of analyzing the scene. Only a moment later did his eyes widen, just a second after the fake eye was destroyed. "V-Void Core!!" Jhow suddenly screamed, stuttering. His words only served to further confuse the crowd until Akari, shaking with excitement, seized the moment from her senior. "So that’s what it was!" she began, capturing everyone’s attention. "C-Competitor Hal deduced that Competitor Felix’s entire domain depended on a Void Core hidden somewhere on the stage. And while everyone thought he was merely running to delay the inevitable, the Grand Magic Academy’s monstrous freshman was actually plotting the most devious of comebacks, searching for it. He then pretended to target Felix with what looked like the [Spatial Swap] scheme he used to defeat Competitor Donner earlier today, when his true aim was the Void Core, destroying it in one cunning offensive!" Jhow then added, further enlightening the audience: "Once the core was down, all the Void Eyes immediately turned to their caster for sustenance, resulting in a severe backlash for Competitor Felix!" The crowd was stunned for a moment before a few claps rang out, growing in number and volume as they began to appreciate Hal’s never-give-up attitude. They even began chanting his name, while the mad ones who had bet on him almost worshipped him for delivering what felt like monetary blessings. And so, after what could be argued as one of the greatest comebacks in the history of the Arcana Primis Cup, an unknown freshman from the Grand Magic Academy claimed the championship.
