Chapter 156: A Stronger Arsenal (1)The first thing Hal did, which he believed was the most worthy investment, was upgrade the [Chaos Converter] function to level two, allowing him to convert C- and B-ranked cores, along with other items of a higher tier, to Chaos Points. This was his most reliable source of points, after all. "Aihh...finally." [Congratulations! You’ve unlocked the [Quick Merge Lv.1] function! You now have the option to merge all cards of a single type!" Merging cards still wasn’t as easy as he wanted, but at least he no longer had to sort them first, tap on the two to be merged, and press the merge button multiple times just to level up a single spell card. He would save hours and his sanity with this 500-point function investment. The next thing Hal did was upgrade the draw rate 5 times for one hundred Chaos Points per upgrade: == Common Draw Success Rates: Common-tier spell card = 68% == Uncommon Draw Success Rates: Common-tier spell card = 28% Uncommon-tier spell card = 39% == Rare Draw Success Rates: Common-tier spell card = 22% Uncommon-tier spell card = 17% Rare-tier spell card = 11% == "Looking good..." Hal nodded in satisfaction. With the consecutive draw boost, his chances would be even higher. His heart wouldn’t be bleeding as much, at the very least. Hal then went to check how many chaos points he had left: == Chaos Points: 5,720 == ’Hmm...fine, I can spare a bit more to make my life easier...’ [Congratulations! You’ve unlocked the [10x Draw] function!] With this, drawing [Common]-tier cards wouldn’t be such a chore. Hal was now left with only 5,220 Chaos Points, though, and he felt it would be better to invest a bit more in card draws, especially since many of his [Rare]-tier spells were either out of charges or about to be. "Hmm...let’s see..." He opened his inventory and checked how many C-ranked cores he had left. Since he had exchanged quite a few for money, only around twelve remained, which could be converted into a total of 1,200 Chaos Points using the [Chaos Converter]. Hal unhesitatingly did so, ending up with 6,420 points for the draws. Having planned to invest 1,000 points in [Common]-tier draws, Hal eagerly pressed away using the [10x Draw] function. This time, he only had to tap a total of 100 times, drawing 694 cards in total. Reading each one would have been a massive mental toll, so Hal simply kept pressing until he had spent all 1,000 Chaos Points. He didn’t even check what he drew. It was mostly the same [Common]-tier spells over and over again, anyway. Or so he thought... Done with the [Common Draw]s, Hal tapped on the first permanent-durability spell card on his deck—the level 40 [Spirit Sparrow]—and pressed the [Easy Merge] button. Hal couldn’t help but smile the next moment. The number 40 on the upper left corner of the summon-type spell card had jumped to 62 with a quick, single tap. It hadn’t even been half an hour, and he was already done with what would normally take him two or three hours to complete. His investment in convenience was well worth it. Hal quickly did the same for [Glacial Shard], [Fireball], and the other [Common]-tier spell cards. He even finally obtained a permanent spell card for the few, rare buff- and debuff-type spells, such as [Obscure Vision], that had previously only come with limited charges, which lifted his mood even further. But then, he noticed that there were still a few ones that were still not permanent, and shockingly, only had less than twenty charges. Hal’s brows furrowed, and he tapped on one of them. == Card Name: Chrono Trap Rarity: Common Type: Time Durability: 4 uses Cooldown: 60 seconds Chaos Karma cost: 2 Description: Allows the caster to set a trap at a target location which, once triggered, locks and freezes the opponent’s sense of time for 1.5 seconds. == ’D-Damn, this is a common-tier spell?’ Why had he never drawn this card before? Then, it struck him—one of the notifications earlier: [You have unlocked [100] new spell cards!] ’So I can unlock more powerful spell cards whenever I upgrade the system, huh?’ Hal mused. He also checked [Soulfire Fireball], [Conjure Shield], and his other new spells, taking note of their effects and forming ideas about when they might come in handy. Overall, Hal was extremely satisfied, especially since the majority of his [Common]-tier spells were now over level fifty and had evolved. His summons, for example, now had additional abilities. The Spirit Wolf now automatically turned invisible as long as it didn’t exceed a certain movement speed threshold. The Spirit Sparrow, on the other hand, could also turn invisible, but Hal had to activate the feature manually, which in turn made the avian cost more Chaos Karma to maintain. Moving on to the [Uncommon Draw]s, he began tapping away with the [10x Draw] option. One of Hal’s objectives for the day was to strengthen his [Uncommon]-tier spell arsenal, so he invested 2,420 points, ending up with 151 successful draws thanks to the consecutive draw boost and improved draw rates. It was his largest [Uncommon]-tier spell card haul to date, and it made his heart race. Aside from drawing a few new spells, he managed to acquire additional copies of his already-permanent spells—[Blink], [Piercing Light], [Reinforced Earthen Wall], [Summon Spirit Bear], [Glacial Rain], [Flame Tornado], and [Wind’s Whisper]—and leveled all of them up to around 10 to 15, with [Glacial Rain] even reaching level 17. The best part of his draw, however, was that he obtained a permanent durability [Dark Grip] card. Although he was only able to level it up to four, even the level one version had already granted him victory multiple times. He was delighted that he no longer had to use the spell sparingly. Plus, it would be more effective now. In addition to the control-type darkness spell, he also obtained permanent versions of [Shadow Walk], [Geyser], and [Conjure Taunt Puppet]. His [Uncommon]-tier arsenal was coming along nicely.
