Chapter 220: Unsettling Evolution

Beneath the cold, dark skies, a fairly large wind explosion occurred, followed by the emergence of more than fifty Wind Cutters that slaughtered and wounded a number of the fell horde. The lethal projectiles then converged at five different points into five raging Wind Tornadoes. Hal’s [Raging Tempest] was far weaker than Zephyron’s. However, the significance it carried for the members of the Zephyr Battalion and the Thirteenth Regiment was huge. They couldn’t explain it, but seeing the spell made their hearts burn, igniting their determination as Zephyron’s stern face flashed in their memories. He was one of the nine strongest of the human race’s wizards. There was no way he would fall that easily! Morale surged, and the Zephyr Battalion roared as they actively sought out the Fellkin Warriors, protecting the Thirteenth Regiment from the cunning bastards’ attacks. Cedar took the lead, advancing steadily as he slaughtered Fell Beasts and the occasional Fellkin Warrior. Emmanuel, while evidently weaker than Cedar, was also a force to be reckoned with, calling upon Boulder Meteors, Earthen Pikes, and smashing the enemy lines with Earthen Walls and Pillars. The Fell Beasts’ lines were still thin and chaotic; it wasn’t too difficult for the Imperial Wizard Army to advance. While they were now surrounded on all three sides, a majority of the enemies were still approaching, and as long as they focused on the enemies in front, they would be able to break through. After doing so, retreating with only the rear to worry about should be far easier and sustainable for a long time. Perhaps the reinforcements would have arrived by then? Only, the incoming assistance was but a fabricated lie to boost morale. Would the wizards be able to keep things up until the fell horde gave up? Victory through break breakthrough seemed to be well within reach for now, as the Fell Beasts approaching from the front were being slaughtered, their uncoordinated rushes only serving to benefit the Imperial Wizard Army. "Damn it, where are the reinforcements?!" roared one of the Fellkin Warriors in frustration. The cornered humans are escaping! The expectations for this mission were the total obliteration of the Thirteenth and Fourteenth Regiments of the Imperial Wizard Army, along with the deaths of the Four Magna Prospects. While taking the heads of the two Magnas couldn’t be strictly enforced, the other conditions must absolutely be fulfilled. Two of them had already been killed by Kurava. But the remaining two were proving infuriatingly hard to eliminate! Their lord, Khatu, had been slain, alongside three of his cohort members, while Yisu had not been responding since a few hours ago. She was supposed to be the link that would allow those from the other side to drastically reduce their return time should the humans decide to emerge from the sealed entrance. The Fellkin Warriors could only continue fighting. At the very least, Zephyron wasn’t around. ** Inside a small, underground den, a female fellkin in her thirties clawed at the ground. Yisu spat out another small volume of purple blood, bleeding from her orifices. In the battle against Zephyron—if one can even call it a battle—she truly consumed the Fell Overdrive Pill. However, instead of going mad, she strangely became more rational, her heightened senses allowing her to realize the gap between her and the Wind Magna. This saved her from certain death. But now, she had to face the repercussions of the pill. Alone in this cold, dark den, far from the continent she called home in this world. This was a human’s biggest fear: to die or suffer alone in a foreign land. But for the fellborne, this wasn’t anything new, though Yisu most certainly would’ve preferred a more comfortable situation. "Puhaahk!" She once again vomited. Her muscles were convulsing, and her throat was clenching itself, making it difficult for Yisu to breathe. The sheer suffering made it impossible for her to notice the changes in her body. Her purple skin was turning a shade magenta, and a few black stripes were emerging, though they were small, thin, and a bit transparent. She had been going through this ordeal for almost an hour now. Yisu wished she would die, but also fiercely fought for her life. She couldn’t die...not without avenging her fallen lord... And so, she struggled, and struggled, her heart momentarily stopping a few times before forcefully pumping more blood. Fifteen more minutes later, the torture finally stopped. Yisu just wanted to close her eyes. But then, cold energy suddenly washed over her entire body, preventing her from falling unconscious. While her wounds didn’t heal, she felt different—oozing with power she never had before. A part of the improvements was her senses. She could see, hear, and smell farther and clearer than before. And so, she was able to hear an explosion in the distance. Yisu slowly stood up, turning and gazing in the direction of the noise. ** * "FIRE!! WE’RE ALMOST THROUGH!!" roared an officer of the Thirteenth Regiment. In the next moment, another volley of spells that took out another messy row of Fell Beasts flew, howls of death and anguish echoing in the chilling night. Carnage continued to ensue. While the Imperial Wizard Army was most definitely winning, they suffered quite a bit of losses too, now down to a thousand three hundred men. The biggest part of this was Hal and Ennya’s rampage. Due to the nonstop fighting since two days ago, Ennya was forced to cast spells over and over, almost emptying her mana pool multiple times. Her mastery of spells and mana skyrocketed as a result, and her flames were far more devastating and refined compared to her first day at the battle camp. It was close to the level of a Magna from a pure damage perspective. Hal, on the other hand, was rampaging more than Ennya did and faster. Cedar couldn’t help but be dumbfounded multiple times, finding it difficult to believe that he was the one casting all those spells. They got the information that the Chaos Magna Prospect, Hal Fennec, could cast all types of spells and had mastered them to a batshit insane level for a mere nineteen-year-old youngster. But hearing about it and witnessing it firsthand were two different matters. Wasn’t the empire selling Hal Fennec short!? What do they mean by "to an insane level", when all his spells are approaching the level of an elite wizard like Cedar?! Perhaps it was more accurate to call it otherworldly or demonic, no?! Unfortunately, Cedar and the others didn’t have much time to remain bewildered, as a spatial crack suddenly opened a few dozen meters ahead, from which a female fellkin with an eerily cold gaze emerged.
