Chapter 134: These Fools

Words : 1246 Updated : Sep 21st, 2025
Chapter 134: These Fools"What... did you say to me?" Donner asked, his voice shivering, his entire body trembling with anger. All his life, no one had dared cross him. After all, not only were people outclassed in terms of background, but they were also outmatched in talent. The select few who even hinted at resistance got the electrifying punch treatment from him, and Hal would’ve been among them if they hadn’t been in a tournament and Donner hadn’t been at risk of disqualification for it. He had never met someone like Hal before. According to what the bastard had said earlier, he was a bumpkin from a border village. This was why Donner couldn’t understand how he even found the courage to talk back to him. "Aihh... you can’t even understand something so simple?" Hal answered, continuing to shake his head. "In simpler terms, no one’s scared of you here, you’re like an eight-year-old child, and you’re dumb. If you still can’t understand after that, then I have no more words." At this point, the crowd was incredibly hyped. Most were already cheering before the timer even hit zero. Meanwhile, Donner was tongue-tied, in utter disbelief and fury at being disrespected by someone a year younger than him and from a poor background. Did the bastard not even consider what the consequences would be? His clan could obliterate the guy’s family in the blink of an eye! The Rakurai Clan’s young master couldn’t come up with a half-decent comeback in time, and so the battle began with him suffering a brutal loss in verbal warfare. In all his anger, Donner naturally didn’t hold back. He immediately raised his arms and called upon the power of thunder with his Mana Gauntlet. A moment later, a series of dark-blue magic circles appeared a few meters above them, lining up until they reached Hal’s location, then spreading out to his periphery before unleashing a devastating wave of lightning. The blast shattered the ceramic ground once more, sending shards flying in all directions and gray smoke billowing from the struck areas. Donner grinned in wrathful satisfaction at the devastation he had caused. Unfortunately, before the dust even cleared, he already realized that he wasn’t able to defeat his opponent in one move, sensing danger from his left. Donner swiftly turned to look, his fists crackling with thunder. Hal didn’t have much reaction to his attack being destroyed by a Thunder Punch, though. He simply went ahead and continued his counteroffensive. He bombarded Donner with a flurry of [Common]-tier spells—Wind Cutter, Sparkblast, Fireball, Glacial Shard, Weak Mana Blast, and more. However, the young master easily defended himself by skillfully punching each one to pieces. Hal had to switch to stronger cards, and the brief window to do so gave Donner the chance to counterattack. He fired a Sparkblast while advancing, followed by a concentrated wave of lightning that shot horizontally across the stage toward Hal, forcing him to use [Licht Step] to dodge. It was simply impossible to evade such a spell with footwork alone. Fueled by fury, Donner unhesitatingly burned through his mana, going all out as lightning crackled at his feet, boosting his movement speed. He managed to close the distance with Hal before long. "Die!" roared the young master, throwing a chopping right straight at his opponent’s face in an attempt to shatter his very skull, though that was impossible due to the special protective barrier. Unfortunately for Donner, Hal wasn’t like his previous opponents who would lose their cool once he got close. He calmly dodged the wild, furious swing by ducking, just as he had learned in his boxing classes. Hal then countered with a palm strike that almost resembled a slap, sending Donner flying with [Knockback]. The young master rolled across the ground for several meters before managing to recover his footing. Witnessing such a thrilling melee exchange unfold, the crowd was dumbfounded for a moment before erupting into thunderous cheers and applause. They did not expect that Donner, who was more used to fighting in such a style, would be sent packing. The more knowledgeable ones in terms of wizardry knew that Hal merely used the most basic of spatial-type spells that posed little difficulty learning. However, to the casual folks watching, Hal landed a significant blow. The very thought of this infuriated the young master to no end. Donner felt as though his chest would explode due to the sheer anger he was feeling at that moment. "HAL FENNEC!!" roared the young master as a massive magic circle appeared above him, unleashing multiple thunder strikes that wreaked havoc across the area and continued even as he advanced. Hal had heard his name shouted like that so many times during the tournament that he had grown numb to it. What he was fascinated about was the young master’s use of the [Uncommon]-tier spell, Thunder Field. ’So it was possible to cast it on oneself and make it move with the caster?’ he pondered as a [Reinforced Earthen Wall] appeared in front of him, protecting him from another vicious Thunder Wave from Donner. The [Uncommon]-tier defensive spell barely managed to hold against the young master’s [Common]-tier attack, highlighting the difference between a wizard with an elemental boost and someone like him, who didn’t have one. Donner rarely attacked with just a single spell, though. Just moments later, the [Reinforced Earthen Wall] completely crumbled as the young master burst through it, one of the lightning strikes landing dangerously close to Hal. But of course, Hal was ready. Honed by his experiences in the Luminous Runeforest, he knew that focus was the name of the game, and always would be. He had long predicted that Donner would follow up with another attack. Hal jumped back to dodge the sneaky Spark Blast that flew through the smoke of the crumbling wall, casting another spell at the ground in front of him in preparation for what was to come. Sure enough, Donner lunged through the smoke, locking his hands together to form a hammer fist and smashing down on Hal. "Begone, insect!" Before the attack could land, however, a geyser of scorching water erupted beneath him, launching him into the air. ’Heh, this combo sure is effective against thunder element users, no?’ Hal mused with a victorious grin. He then cast a black magic circle on the ground, from which dark hands emerged, reaching upward. Before they could grab hold of him, Hal vanished, replaced by the young master, who was still struggling to regain his footing. The dark hands latched onto Donner before he even realized what was happening. "Well then, say farewell to your fifteen gold coins, dumbass," he taunted, though his opponent didn’t hear it. In the next moment, another magic circle materialized, this time in front of the bewildered young master. A terrifying Gravity Ball emerged from it, leaving the VIPs in Gaora Hall standing in utter disbelief. Just like Amirra, the subordinate Fellkin, Donner was sucked into the center of the spatial spell. The sole difference was that the young master erupted in one final act of resistance: a Thunderous Outburst. To Hal’s surprise, the Gravity Ball was destroyed, but the nasty explosion that followed from the clash of opposing elements was no joke. Gray smoke billowed across the stage, and Hal knew one thing for sure: he did not want to be anywhere near that...
