Chapter 121: Makings Of A MagnaAkari smashed the commentator’s desk with her delicate palm. "And Liora Whitemane responds to the crowd’s wishes!! Despite being a year younger, she managed to hold her own and even counterattack against Competitor Garong and his summons! But would she be able to keep it up?" The plump young man wanted to make sure she didn’t, immediately summoning his chilling trump card, the blood parasites. The creatures weren’t invisible. However, they were extremely small and could fly. It was normally over once they entered through any of one’s orifices. The catch, though, was that they were only effective for creatures with small bodies like humans and Fellkins. The larger the target’s body, the greater the number of parasites needed to cause noticeable effects such as weakening the enemy, momentary paralysis, and other inconveniences that could ultimately lead to defeat. Slowly but surely, the horrifying summoned insects spread out and surrounded the unsuspecting Liora, creeping toward her as she dealt with the Spirit Wolves, taking out one of them with a point-blank Piercing Light. It was an unnerving counter that could have ended badly had she made a mistake, once again showcasing her nerves of steel. She was shaping up to be more and more of a Magna Prospect in the eyes of the VIPs. The battle continued as the remaining Spirit Wolf, the bear, and the vines crawled toward her. Garong had already used up most of his mana and had to conserve what little remained, as he still needed to control and maintain his summons. The young man had already gone all out and had nothing more to throw. If Liora could survive his all-out assault, which included three Constrictor Vines, a Spirit Bear, a Spirit Wolf, and the sneaky blood parasites, then victory would be hers. But as more seconds passed, it seemed less and less likely that she would. With one less wolf to control, Garong could more easily maneuver the remaining one to dodge Liora’s occasional counterattacks. The white-haired maiden had to try to take out the annoying and speedy Spirit Wolf while also dodging the Spirit Bear’s paws from time to time. Her footwork was immaculate, and her physical endurance was holding up somewhat, despite the sheer difficulty of the battle. The workout habit she picked up from Hal was truly proving useful at this moment. Nonetheless, her stamina and mana pool continued to dwindle, and it had now become a battle of who could outlast the other. Would Garong’s mana pool hold out until his summons finished the job, or would Liora endure and turn things around? The crowd was on the edge of their seats, stomping, roaring, and raising their fists in excitement as they cheered for the competitor they wanted to win. Most of them were hoping to witness an upset. However, a number still cheered for the slightly plump and more renowned Garong Moonchaser, believing it would be better and more orderly for the rankings and seniority to be maintained. A dance of paws, maws, and bright lights continued on the stage, both young wizards breathing heavily. Liora’s focus was razor sharp as she fired glowing needles and piercing rays of light, slowly but surely wounding the wolf, which was now leaking mana particles everywhere. Clearly, the summon wouldn’t hold up for long. But Garong didn’t need the wolf any longer. Why would he, when the blood parasites were already in position to infiltrate Liora’s body through her orifices, and the Constricting Vines were poised to strike and latch onto her? Soon, the plump young wizard revealed all his cards almost simultaneously. The ceramic ground cracked as vines struck at the white-haired maiden like snakes, catching their target by surprise. But Liora didn’t panic. She quickly Licht Stepped away, dodging both the Constricting Vines and the Spirit Bear’s paw. Unfortunately, Garong’s parasites and vines were well positioned, so even though she managed to escape the initial onslaught, the plant-type summons near where she reappeared managed to catch both of her legs. ’Hahaha! Got you now!’ laughed the plump young wizard, waving his strange summoner staff to direct the parasites into her body and the bear to smash her with its front paws. Unlike Hal, the standard wizard had no cooldown issues, so Liora could have Licht Stepped away, as long as she had the mana for it and her legs had not been rooted to the ground. There was nowhere she could go, and it seemed like it was the end of the road for her. That is, until a fairly large, silvery-gold magic circle appeared above the stage. ’Radiant Decimation!’ she roared. In the next moment, everyone’s eyes widened as the heavens seemed to smite Liora and everyone around her with a violent ray of light that extended from the magic circle to the ground, sending shards of ceramic flying and smoke billowing from the devastation. Only the caster of the light spell remained as the horrifying smite vanished, her academy capelet swaying in the wind as her unyielding gaze locked onto her opponent. "N-No way..." Garong stumbled backward in horror and disbelief. His Spirit Bear, Constrictor Vines, and Blood Parasites were all reduced to mere particles by a single spell, and now there was nothing he could do except summon a measly Spirit Sparrow. The short and slightly plump young wizard could not believe that he would also be on the receiving end of a huge upset today. But the battle wasn’t over until one’s opponent was either unconscious or sent flying out of the stage, and Liora was focused enough to ensure she secured victory before celebrating. Immediately dashing toward her devastated opponent, she Licht Stepped closer and pointed her light elemental wand at Garong’s forehead, ruthlessly shooting through it with a piercing light without so much as a second thought. The maiden had long learned that hesitation often led to defeat—or worse, death. Eyes rolling back, Garong fell on his back with a thud, prompting the crowd to roar in delight at the conclusion of the fierce battle. Liora Whitemane, despite the overwhelming odds, had pulled off an upset through a great mix of real combat experience, grit, determination, and unwavering focus, securing herself a top-sixteen finish.
