Chapter 186: Chapter 186: Waiting for the Show to Begin
Ms.Lv of Hua Family stashed away the money, "You can rest easy, I’ll ensure that old bastard pays for trying to steal someone from under my nose."
Watching Ms.Lv of Hua Family pocket the money and storm off toward the Yang Family dwelling, Yang Chuxia smirked. They all had bad intentions but lacked the brains. A sister-in-law turning in her own younger sister-in-law for cheating was more powerful than any other accusation. The jealousy of some women is so easily exploited. Regardless of age, they’re still women after all.
She chuckled to herself, already anticipating the fun that was about to unfold.
Back at home, Ms.Wang and Yang Xiayun were shucking corn outside, the fruits of their recent harvest.
"Mom, where’s dad?"
Upon her arrival, Ms.Wang replied, "There’s still a basket of corn left in the field, your father’s gone to collect it."
"Mom, our late-season rice field still needs some time before harvest, right?"
"Yes, indeed. Our field was the last to be planted, so we’ll have to wait another 20 days or so before it’s ready to harvest."
Calculating the time, Yang Chuxia figured that it would probably be mid-October when it was ready for harvest. This meant that her plan to buy and clear the fallow land wouldn’t interfere with the rice harvest.
"So, my dad should be free tomorrow then?"
"Unless your father plans on plowing, he’d probably go to town for porter work." Ms.Wang said inbetween shucking corn.
Hearing that Yang Dachuan was planning on doing porter work, Yang Chuxia wasn’t pleased.
After a thought, she said, "Mom, when you get a chance, tell my dad not to do the porter work anymore. Those bags weigh a ton. Also, the pickled crab and shrimp aren’t done fermenting yet. I need my dad to go to town and buy more crabs for me. Additionally, I talked to my Uncle today about buying that large plot of wasteland near Li’s Village. We’ll need someone there to oversee the land measurement."
"You’re buying land?" Ms.Wang lit up with joy upon hearing the news. "Once your dad gets home and hears that you’re buying land, he definitely won’t go for the porter’s job."
"Yes, Mom, I plan to plant broad beans. It’s too difficult to buy them from outside, why not plant them ourselves." Yang Chuxia was thinking about large-scale cultivation of broad beans. She would need her parents’ consent and their help as she didn’t know much about farming.
"Are you buying the land to plant broad beans?" Ms.Wang asked. "You mean that plot of wasteland near Li’s Village? I remember it’s quite large, if all planted with broad beans and they don’t yield well, wouldn’t all that land be wasted?"
After a thought, Yang Chuxia agreed that Ms.Wang’s concern was reasonable, "Let me discuss it with my dad when he comes back. Regardless, I’ll still need to buy that land."
After a while, Yang Dachuan returned carrying the corn. Yang Chuxia rushed forward to help unload.
Seeing her sister helping, Yang Xiayun also hurried over with a cup of water, "Dad, have some water!"
"Ah, Yunyun’s such a good girl!" Yang Dachuan took the water with a grateful smile, patting Yang Xiayun on her head. Looking at his doting daughters, he felt overjoyed.
"Dad, I discussed with Uncle about buying that wasteland over at Li’s Village."
"That land? I believe it could be a few dozen acres, are you buying all of it?"
"Of course, I’ve already talked to Uncle. We’ll measure the land tomorrow, then take care of the deeds."
"Good, buying land is good. We’re peasants, we should buy more land. Land is the foundation of our livelihood." In fact, Yang Dachuan knew they had money at home and had long been thinking about buying more land, but he had just never brought it up.
