Chapter 151: Chapter 151: Borrowing Rice
Yang Lichun noticed this and said, "Ma, I also saw that little minx Yang Chuxia bought back a lot of fine cloth. The colors are so nice. Ma, even if the third branch of the family has been separated, you and pa are still their elders. Disrespecting their elders, that’s not acceptable anywhere."
At the mention of the fine cloth, Yang Ruoqiu and her sister’s eyes lit up. They chimed in from behind, "Yeah, Ma, we should make her bring out those fine clothes and all the grain to honor you and pa. Otherwise, we should complain to the patriarch about their disrespect. Or we could run around the village and tell everyone that the third branch is disrespecting their elders. Let’s see who’ll deal with them then."
Everyone in the Old Yang’s household was babbling with the same idea of how to get the possessions of the third branch into their own pockets.
A murderous intent flitted through Yang Chuxia’s eyes. She kicked open the door of Old Yang’s house. The abrupt crash silenced everyone in the room.
"Pa, dinner is ready at home. Mom and Dad asked me to call you. Uncle and fourth uncle are there too." Yang Chuxia ignored the stunned looks and addressed Old Yang directly.
Upon hearing her words, Old Yang nodded silently, put down his chopsticks, and walked out.
Seeing this, Yang Chuxia followed behind.
"Wait, Xiaxia!"
Just as she stepped out, Ms. Liu hurried after her, calling out.
Yang Chuxia turned to glance at her, her tone was cold, "What?"
"Your grandma is still at home!" Ms. Liu said with a flattering smile. "Your uncle and cousin are also here. We didn’t make enough food for dinner tonight. It seemed like you guys have plenty of food, could your uncle and cousin borrow some food from your place?"
"Pff..." Yang Chuxia couldn’t help but laugh. She had heard of borrowing money, borrowing rice, but never borrowing food. But then she snorted, "No! The food at our home is just enough for people, but not enough for dogs."
Wanting to mooch off her house, wishful thinking!
Ms. Liu’s face turned as black as the bottom of a pot at Yang Chuxia’s retort.
It was Yang Xiaochuan who had no shame. He rushed out and insisted on following, shouting, "I and my third brother are real brothers. I don’t believe he would turn his only brother away for a meal."
Yang Chuxia looked at Yang Xiaochuan with a bit of a headache. If he insisted on following, she believed her father really wouldn’t be able to turn him away, especially since this guy was his own brother, not the same as Xiao’an.
"Go back home!" Originally, no matter how hard Yang Xiaochuan insisted, Yang Chuxia wouldn’t let anyone in. Such things should not be tolerated; once it’s allowed, there will be a second time. Could their family still eat in peace in the future?
Luckily, before she could speak, Old Yang had already shouted from ahead. It was the first time she had heard this cheap old man speak loudly since she came here.
Not just Yang Chuxia, even Yang Xiaochuan was startled by the shout. It was the first time he saw his father lose his temper. Feeling a little unsure, he didn’t dare to push further and shamefully retreated back home.
Back at the third branch, the dishes and alcohol were already on the table. They were just waiting for Old Yang when he arrived and they immediately started eating.
Taking advantage of the moment while serving the dishes, Yang Chuxia told Mrs. Wang about Old Yang’s outburst. Mrs. Wang said that she had married into the family for over a decade and never heard her father-in-law say a harsh word. Usually, he would silently puff on his dry tobacco pipe, this was the case no matter what happened at home.
According to Mrs. Wang’s account, Yang Chuxia found Old Yang’s behavior even stranger, but she didn’t think too much for now. After all, there was plenty of time in the future to figure it out.
