Chapter 133: Chapter 133: The Sea Oyster Produces the Pearl
But Black Pearls were different. They were rare even in the technologically advanced modern world, where top-quality natural black pearls could sell for hundreds of thousands.
And now here they were in the relatively primitive ancient times; it was even more extraordinary. Even pearl cultivation was rare here. There was a difference between freshwater pearls and saltwater pearls, with the latter being more expensive, of course. The two pearls in her hand were not only saltwater pearls but also rare black pearls; they were extremely valuable.
Black pearls were uncommon and were said to be used as medicine in ancient times, only found with the richest families. Evidently, they were of great worth. The two she held were larger than any she had seen, sure to fetch a good price.
Yang Chuxia laughed happily, which puzzled the others.
"Why on earth is this girl laughing so loudly? You scared me half to death!" Ms.Wang complained while nursing her finger. She had been sewing, and Yang Chuxia’s sudden laughter had startled her, causing her to prick her finger.
However, Ye Zi’an got the hint when he saw her holding the clam.
"Did something good happen?"
Yang Chuxia, with her bright eyes, nodded vigorously. She had known Zi’an for quite a while and had come to understand his character. Plus, she trusted him with her drunken crabs and many other things at his house.
She opened her hand to reveal the two pearls she had just taken from the clam.
Not just Zi’an, but Ms.Wang, Yang Qingrui, and Yang Qingtong all saw them.
"What is this?" Yang Chuxia hadn’t expected Ms.Wang to be clueless about the pearls. Looking at the expressions of the others, it seemed only Zi’an had any idea, while her two younger brothers were utterly clueless.
Actually, it was not surprising that Ms.Wang didn’t know. Whether it was before she was married or after she came to the Yang family, she had rarely gone to town. She had seen or heard about pearls in clams, but those were all white pearls; she had never seen black ones.
Obviously, if Ms.Wang didn’t know, her young brothers wouldn’t either.
Zi’an, who could read and often visited town, knew a little more.
Yang Chuxia cautiously checked outside before whispering, "These are pearls, Black Pearls!"
"What?"
Upon hearing this, Ms.Wang and her sons instantly opened their mouths wide, then reacted with immense joy.
"Xiaxia, I’ve never seen pearls like this before." Ms.Wang said with joy and disbelief.
Hearing Ms.Wang say this, others also nodded in agreement. Even Zi’an had only read about them but had never seen one in person.
With this, Yang Chuxia stretched out her hand again so everyone could have another look, "Yes, it’s just a different colored pearl." Remembering how precious black pearls were, Yang Chuxia put them away and warned them, "These are very valuable, don’t talk about it outside." She specifically addressed her two younger brothers again, "Especially you two, don’t reveal it to anyone."
"Sister, don’t worry, we’re not fools." Yang Qingrui said, nodding assuredly with a playful smile.
Yang Qingtong quickly added, "Exactly, if we told others, everyone would rush to take the sea produce. I’m not that stupid!"
