Chapter 55 - 054: Message sent by Lu Li The sky was still dark. Yu Zhi walked out of her room slowly, eyelids drooping as if she hadn't fully woken up, her face filled with drowsiness. Just as she reached the stairway, Yu Zhi bumped into a firm chest. She rubbed her nose, looked up at him groggily, and asked, "Why are you up so early?" Shi Wei stepped back half a pace, his eyes flickering uneasily. "I have to go to the office." Yu Zhi didn't notice his odd demeanor and nodded before continuing on her way. Shi Wei followed close behind, his fingers curling nervously as he asked tentatively, "Did you sleep well last night?" Yu Zhi yawned, her light brown eyes foggy with a hint of mist. "It was alright." Though her lips were swollen from a mosquito bite, overall she felt rested enough. "That's good." Shi Wei exhaled in relief, grateful that sleepwalkers typically lose memory upon waking. Even though what happened last night wasn't his intention, he was still at fault. Promising himself not to take advantage, he ended up acting like the very "scoundrel" he despised. Sighing inwardly, Shi Wei glanced at the breakfast on the table and hurriedly called out to Yu Zhi: "Eat something first, I'll take you to school later." Yu Zhi responded and, upon seeing the two breakfasts laid out on the table, raised her eyebrows slightly. She pointed at the sandwiches. "You made these?" "Yeah, give it a try and see if they're good." Shi Wei guided her to sit on the chair and went to reheat the milk in the kitchen. He had woken up early to prepare the breakfast, initially planning to wake her at 8 a.m., but she came out herself unexpectedly. Yu Zhi held the sandwich with both hands and took a big bite, her eyes half-closed, a mix of relaxation and faint weariness. "Eat slower, don't choke." Shi Wei touched the glass to check the temperature, and ensuring it wasn't too hot, placed it before her. Yu Zhi mumbled a response, her words muffled by the food in her mouth: "It's delicious." Shi Wei smirked faintly and knocked twice on the edge of the table, beginning to peel a boiled egg for her. After breakfast, Yu Zhi curled up on the couch, watching the man who was tidying up her backpack with half-drooped eyelids. He bent slightly, his bangs falling across his forehead, partly shading his refined, picturesque features. His usual sharpness had softened, his demeanor kinder. He took out the clothes from her bag, folding them neatly to one side. The fractured sunlight through the window reflected on his hands, making his fingers appear delicate as jade. As Shi Wei opened one of her books, a small, sealed plastic bag slid out. He glanced at the short hair inside and, holding the bag, turned to ask her, "What do you want me to do with this?" Yu Zhi, her eyelids still drooping with sleep, yawned lazily. "Help me mail it." She pointed at the phone on the table. "The address is in the memo, take a look." After finishing her words, she sprawled out on the couch and pulled a blanket over herself. With two hours until class, she figured she had time for another nap. Shi Wei murmured a soft acknowledgment, a subtle sense of satisfaction blooming in his heart from the trust she showed him. Seeing her eyes close, he carefully adjusted the blanket to wrap her snugly and even turned up the air conditioning before turning back around. Yu Zhi's phone didn't have a lock screen. With a light swipe of his fingers, Shi Wei lit up the display. Her home screen was simple. Aside from a few essential apps, her background was the default from the system. Shi Wei didn't pry into her private files and instead directly opened the memo, where there was only one entry, to copy down the address and contact details. Midway through writing, a WeChat notification popped up at the top of the screen. He froze momentarily but continued jotting down the information with lowered eyes. Within ten minutes, her phone rang again multiple times with consecutive "ding" sounds. Shi Wei raised his brows slightly, hesitating before finally opening the messages. Appearing in front of him were the two words, "Lu Li": [What do you want for breakfast? I'll bring it for you.] [Dumplings? Soy milk? Or maybe KFC?] [Why aren't you replying? Didn't see your phone?] [I bought some randomly; I'll leave them on your desk, make sure to eat them.] "Hah." Shi Wei's hand clenched tighter around the phone, his knuckles whitening, his gaze growing increasingly dangerous. He scrolled through their earlier conversations, his fingers hovering over the keyboard, deleting and rewriting words, before ultimately leaving the message unsent. Suppressing the agitation in his chest, he turned back to hold Yu Zhi's small hand sticking out under the blanket, staring at her with an intense, unyielding look. "Zhizhi." He murmured softly near her ear, his voice tinged with obsession, like a dense net seeking to trap its prey completely. Yu Zhi stirred at the sound and mumbled groggily, her lashes fluttering slightly before a sliver of her eyes opened. "What's wrong?" Shi Wei gently stroked her cheek, his proximity allowing him to see the fine baby hairs on her skin, provoking an urge to steal a kiss. His gaze darkened. "Lu Li sent you a WeChat message, asking if you wanted dumplings." "Don't want them," Yu Zhi rejected instinctively, brushing his hand away, grumbling, "Stop messing with me." "Alright, I'll help you turn him down." Shi Wei's lips curved upward, the shadow over his heart dissipating in an instant. He pinched her cheek lightly, picked up the phone again, and sent Lu Li a reply. ** Yu Zhi walked into Class 7 for her senior year just ten minutes before the bell rang. Approaching her desk to put down her backpack, her eyes lingered momentarily on the breakfast set out on her table. Yu Zhi tapped the shoulder of Qin Huai, sitting in front of her, and gestured at the table. "Did you buy this?" She seldom interacted with most of her classmates, but since she had helped Qin Huai once before, she instinctively thought of her. Qin Huai turned her head and glanced at the items Yu Zhi pointed toward. "Not me." "Then it must be a mistake." Yu Zhi moved the breakfast aside, paying it no further mind. Qin Huai furrowed her brows as if trying to recall something, then suddenly widened her eyes in surprise, as though uncovering a big secret. Leaning toward Yu Zhi conspiratorially, Qin Huai whispered, "I think I know who left this." Yu Zhi arched her brows, signaling her to continue. Lowering her voice even further, Qin Huai revealed, "It was Lu Li! I saw him hovering near your desk when I arrived this morning." "Lu Li?" Yu Zhi seemed to recall hearing his name from Shi Wei earlier but had been too drowsy to pay proper attention to the context. Qin Huai nodded, scanning her surroundings with a suspicious air. "Yeah, don't you think Lu Li might have a crush on you?" Yu Zhi glanced at her indifferently and said, "Stop making things up." Qin Huai persisted, "But people only bring breakfast for someone they like! Why else would he bother?"
