Chapter 279: 258: Little swindler, why are you shy again?
"I don’t know what was said on the other end of the phone, but Shi Yin saw the smile on the man’s face grow broader. ’Be good and wait for me, I’ll be back soon.’
As the car engine roared to life, the smartphone was casually set aside.
Shi Wei held the steering wheel with one hand, while the other rested lazily against the car window. His posture was utterly relaxed.
There wasn’t even a trace of sadness on his face.
On the contrary, even the aura surrounding him seemed to emit countless tiny pink bubbles, radiating boundless joy.
Shi Yin hesitated, his lips moving slightly as though he wanted to speak, but in the end, he said nothing. Through the rearview mirror, he cast a concerned glance at Shi Wei’s profile before diverting his attention.
He turned toward the window, watching the fleeting lights of countless homes, a faint trace of melancholy lingering on his brow.
Soon after, Shi Wei suddenly stepped on the accelerator, and a blue-and-white storefront came into view.
As Shi Yin caught sight of the black swan cake displayed inside the large glass window, he asked, ’Big Brother, are we buying desserts?’
’Yes, Zhizhi wants some.’ Shi Wei unbuckled his seatbelt and tidied up his appearance.
As soon as he opened the car door and stepped out, familiar footsteps echoed from behind him.
In the center of the dessert shop stood a tall glass cabinet, showcasing a variety of neatly arranged small cakes.
They were like works of art, displayed for admiration.
Shi Yin’s gaze swept over the cakes, and the radiant image of Ruan Yuan flashed in his mind. He smiled faintly. ’Ruan Yuan also likes sweet things.’
Shi Wei cast a faint glance at him, but then inadvertently caught sight of the suggestive pink marks under Shi Yin’s shirt collar, and let out a light click of his tongue.
’Gentlemen, would you like to try our newly launched Rose Whisper series?’ The waitress, emerging from her initial shock at their presence, eagerly introduced the new product.
She raised her hand slightly, gesturing politely to the left where three cakes were displayed. ’The Rose Whisper series uses French pure milk chocolate, German raspberry liqueur, and Dutch lychee wine...’
Shi Yin’s eyes darted back and forth between the three cakes, momentarily at a loss. He asked, ’Which flavor do women usually like the most?’
At his question, the waitress gestured towards a red cake adorned with swan necks intertwined, resting upon a crystal stand.
Displaying a professional smile, she said, ’This rose ice wine cake has received the best feedback. It symbolizes eternal love and is the perfect choice as a gift for one’s wife.’
The word ’wife’ caused the tips of Shi Yin’s ears to turn slightly red.
Just as he was about to speak, a low, husky voice came from beside him. ’Wrap it up.’
Shi Wei had taken an immediate liking to the cake, especially its symbolic promise of ’eternal love,’ the exact sentiment he wished to express to the little girl.
’I’ll take the same one,’ Shi Yin quickly followed suit.
It wasn’t for any particular reason—just for the word ’wife.’ He had to buy it today.
’Alright.’ The waitress’s smile became even more genuine as she led them to the checkout counter. ’Each cake is priced at 2,999 yuan, making it 5,998 yuan in total. Will you be paying together or...?’
’Separately.’
’Yes, separate payments.’
After all, given the special meaning behind the cake and the fact that it was for the little princess at home, paying for it individually just felt right.
Shi Wei seemed quite pleased with Shi Yin’s choice. If Shi Yin had rushed to pay, it would likely have earned him a solid beating.
Several minutes later, the two brothers each carried a cake box and strode out of the shop with their long legs, accompanied by the waitress’s parting words, ’We look forward to seeing you again.’
**
The Shi Family residence.
The moment the front door opened, the soft patter of footsteps sounded, growing closer and closer to Shi Wei’s ears.
As soon as he changed into his house slippers, he saw the little girl sprinting toward him in the fluffy blue pajamas he had bought for her.
Shi Wei immediately set the cake aside and opened his arms, pulling her into a tight embrace. ’Honey, did you miss me today?’
He buried his face in her neck, inhaling her sweet fragrance deeply. His slightly upturned, peach blossom eyes brimmed with an indescribable contentment.
’I did,’ Yu Zhi replied, wrapping her arms around his neck.
She planted a soft kiss on his cheek, her little feet playfully swinging by his side, revealing just how delighted she was at that moment.
’How much did you miss me?’
Shi Wei tilted his forehead against hers, his cool lips gently pressing against hers, tenderly lingering in a kiss.
He hoisted her up slightly, hooking a finger around the cake box’s ribbon as he strode leisurely to the sofa.
’A lot,’ Yu Zhi said, her face radiant with laughter.
Her clear apricot eyes sparkled with a brilliance that seemed to outshine the stars, making it impossible to look away.
’If you missed me, why didn’t you call?’ Shi Wei lightly nibbled on her lower lip, his large hand softly stroking her waist. ’Little liar.’
’...’ Yu Zhi pursed her lips, her face flushing pink in an instant. ’You were having dinner with your family. I didn’t want to disturb you.’
After all, if Mr. Shi thought she was clingy and inconsiderate, that wouldn’t go over well.
Shi Wei chuckled softly, instinctively choosing to ignore the term ’family.’ He motioned toward the coffee table with a slight nod of his chin. ’Little liar, want some cake?’
’I’m not a liar.’ At most, she was a thief—but she never tricked or schemed.
’Alright, alright, you’re not.’ Seeing her seriousness, Shi Wei decided to stop teasing.
He gently pinched her chin, directing her gaze toward the black-and-gold box. ’Don’t you want to see what your husband bought for you?’
Yu Zhi’s eyes lit up as she leaped out of his warm embrace, crouched on the carpet, and pulled the box closer to her.
’What flavor did you get?’ she asked, untying the ribbon atop the box as she spoke.
Her fair fingertips, paired with the elegant black and gold of the box, made her long, slender fingers appear as flawless as polished jade—so stunning it was indescribable.
’Rose ice wine,’ Shi Wei replied, crouching down beside her.
His heated gaze swept from her delicate features down to those cherry-red lips, enticing like blossoms at the peak of spring.
As soon as Yu Zhi opened the box, a vivid scarlet color greeted her eyes. She beamed with joy. ’It already looks delicious.’
Shi Wei thoughtfully unwrapped the knife and fork from their packaging, cutting a small piece and feeding it to her himself.
Watching her nibble on the cake like a little cat, her contented eyes half-closed, his heart felt inexplicably soft and ticklish.
’How does it taste?’
’It melts in your mouth. Very good.’
’Really?’ Shi Wei’s eyes darkened slightly.
He bent down and licked the bit of cream left on her lips, savoring it before flashing a cryptic smile. ’It is indeed very good.’
His wolf-like gaze made Yu Zhi’s chewing falter. Her fluttering lashes seemed to tremble twice every second, and her cheeks, along with her neck, turned an impossibly deep shade of red.
’Why are you shy again?’ Shi Wei wrapped an arm around her waist, letting his warm breath linger by her earlobe.
