Chapter 269: 248: Master Shi, did you drink a lot of alcohol?
Lanting Square.
The wine bottles lay askew in Meiyue Pavilion, their crooked forms scattered across the floor, while smoke permeated the entire private room, mingling with the aroma of alcohol.
The smell wasn’t exactly strange, but it was undeniably unpleasant.
A man slouched despondently against a reclining chair, wordlessly gazing at the crescent moon outside the window, occasionally lifting the cigarette wedged between his fingers to his thin lips.
The corners of his peach blossom-shaped eyes were tinged with a decadent red, paired with dark pupils that seemed to carry faint ripples.
It made one, inexplicably, want to bully him.
"Sir, it’s almost eleven." Seated cautiously across from him for a long time, Chen Cai finally couldn’t resist breaking the silence.
"Mm."
Shi Wei responded indifferently, without any intention of getting up.
He picked up his glass and took a harsh swig, revealing bruises on his jawline that were startling in their vividness when he tilted his head slightly.
Chen Cai felt that this couldn’t continue, so he mustered his courage: "The lady boss clocked out quite a while ago."
Although the man was now acting utterly nonchalant, if the woman at home truly got angry, even crying wouldn’t save him.
Shi Wei paused, letting out another soft "Mm."
Seeing some semblance of reaction in him, Chen Cai decided to push further: "I heard that, just a few days ago, a teenage girl was assaulted and robbed on her way home from work, then dumped in the river afterward."
He studied the man covertly, noticing the slight furrow on his refined brows before continuing, "That girl died a tragic death—not a single part of her body was left unscathed."
"Zhizhi’s skills are as good as mine." Shi Wei wasn’t a fool; he knew the idiot was deliberately trying to provoke him.
Still, he couldn’t help but feel a pang of worry deep within, though he hid it well.
Chen Cai was momentarily stumped by his response, his eyes darting about nervously before a brilliant idea suddenly popped into his mind.
Feigning concern, he sighed: "Ah, the lady boss is so beautiful—what if some man keeps pestering her?"
"Crash—"
The glass slipped from Shi Wei’s grip.
Fragments of shattered glass mixed with spilled wine, strewn across the ground.
He had almost forgotten—there was still Wen Renche, lurking at every moment, waiting to sabotage his relationship with the young woman.
If someone seized such an opportunity...
The expression on Shi Wei’s face visibly darkened, and his heart grew even more restless.
"Sir...?" Witnessing the man suddenly extinguish his cigarette and rise, Chen Cai swiftly moved to his side.
Shi Wei cast him a cold glance, the shifting glint in his eyes sending chills rippling outward: "Go start the car."
"Ah, yes, yes!" Chen Cai hurriedly opened the door.
Feeling the icy gaze boring holes into him, his footsteps quickened significantly, teetering on the edge of breaking into a full sprint.
"Master Shi."
A gentle female voice called out from across the koi pond.
The walkway of Lanting Square was dimly lit, and Shi Wei couldn’t make out who it was. He hesitated mid-step.
Bai Shirui noticed that he didn’t ignore her outright, and her spirits lifted considerably. She quickly strode forward to stand in the glow of the light.
Stopping just half a meter away from the man, the strong smell of alcohol wafted into her nose.
Bai Shirui tilted her head in concern, gazing up at his godlike face: "Master Shi, did you drink a lot tonight?"
Her voice was soft, like feathers carried on the breeze gently landing upon the surface of a lake, creating ripples that spread faintly outward.
As she approached, Shi Wei subtly stepped back two paces, the impatience glinting in his eyes unmistakable: "It’s none of your business."
