The man standing nearby gazed at the scene impassively, letting out a faint chuckle as he leaned back against the damp wall, visibly relaxed. He bit onto the black leather glove on his left hand, clenching his jaw to pull it off, revealing pale and elegantly long fingers. Wen Renche glanced sideways, his gaze lowering onto his bloodstained shoulder. His amber phoenix-shaped eyes were eerily calm, chillingly so. Raindrops fell on his wound, mingling silently with blood before sliding off his fingertips and dripping onto the ground, scattering like blooming flowers. "Boss!" A deep voice called out from behind. A burly man wielding a long gun jogged up toward him. Noticing the wound on his shoulder, Ming Fu quickly stepped forward to cover it, frowning as he said, "There are still some of them that haven’t been caught. Let’s head back first." Wen Renche lifted his gaze to look at the man. Droplets from the rain had splattered onto the gold-rimmed glasses covering his eyes, obscuring the expression in those phoenix-like eyes. He slowly straightened up and patted the man’s hand. As soon as Ming Fu stepped away, he took out a roll of bandages from his pocket and carefully secured it over the wound. His movements were so practiced; it seemed he’d done this a thousand times before. In mere moments, a stark strip of white covered his injured shoulder. Wen Renche rubbed the bandages remaining in his palm, his gaze softening slightly. He curled his lips faintly into a smile and walked away briskly, stepping through the puddles beneath his feet. At the entrance of the seaside mansion, ten or so men brimming with hostility stood by with weapons, their eyes scouring the surroundings nervously. As a black SUV slowly entered their view, the man in a trench coat at the forefront immediately stepped forward. "Boss!" Ming Jian greeted with visible joy. He bent slightly to open the rear car door, placing one hand protectively on the rooftop as Wen Renche descended. Wen Renche nodded. "Did someone come by?" The gold-rimmed glasses on his face had been wiped clean, fully exposing the oppressive brilliance of his amber phoenix eyes. "No one." Ming Jian immediately noticed the stark white bandages on his shoulder. The joy on his face disappeared instantly. "Boss, who did this?" His eyes widened in fury as he pulled out the gun holstered at his lower back, looking ready to seek vengeance at once. "I’ll blow his head off!" Ming Jian and Ming Fu were twin brothers, yet their personalities couldn’t be more different. Ming Fu, the elder brother, was calm and composed, while Ming Jian, the younger brother, was incredibly impulsive. Because of this trait, Ming Jian had suffered his fair share of setbacks over the years, but with Wen Renche covering for him, nothing serious had ever happened. "You should learn more from your brother." Wen Renche shook his head subtly, leaving behind these words as he sidestepped him and strode directly into the villa. "What’s there for me to learn from him..." Ming Jian grumbled softly, shooting a disdainful glance at Ming Fu on his right before following quickly behind. In the study, Wen Renche sat upright at the table, methodically wiping the blood off his gun. The long lashes framing his eyes trembled slightly, brushing over the tear-shaped mole at the corner of his eye with every flutter, stunningly beautiful. He listened silently as the brothers reported the night’s events, occasionally responding with a soft "Mm," his emotions remaining largely unaffected. However, when a certain familiar name was mentioned, he set the item in his hand aside, leaning comfortably back against his chair, his posture relaxed. "Boss, Sister Zhi, she..." Ming Jian hesitated for a while before deciding to let him see the gathered information himself, handing over the dossier they’d investigated. His reluctance to speak only deepened the meaning behind Wen Renche’s gaze. He raised his brows indifferently, casually opening the file. A stack of photographs slipped out. He picked up the first one, his gaze tinged with a faint tender warmth as he stared at the girl’s white, porcelain-like face. Wen Renche rubbed the surface of the photo, then lifted the remaining stack, inspecting the second, the third... Until the appearance of a stranger in one of the images turned the warmth in his eyes cold. Even the faint smile on his lips faded completely. The subsequent photographs showed nothing but the girl and the man together, smiling brightly, making intimate gestures like holding hands or embracing in various settings. "Who is he?" Wen Renche’s face darkened. His grip tightened around the photograph, leaving deep creases that could not be smoothed away. Ming Jian had anticipated this question and quickly handed over a prepared file, standing nervously to the side without saying a word. The papers detailed Shi Wei’s family background, assets, personality traits, and so forth, laid out meticulously within the file. Wen Renche carefully scrutinized every line, as if unwilling to overlook even the smallest detail. After a moment of contemplation, he abruptly crumpled the papers into a ball, tossing them into a nearby trash bin, the action tracing an arc through the air. Wen Renche gazed out at the endless blue of the sea, his hand beneath the table instinctively slipping into his pocket to finger the roll of bandages stored there. The slightly cool sea breeze brushed against him, gently caressing his forehead like a tender kiss upon his exquisite features. "Ah-Shi is still young; she doesn’t understand love." Wen Renche closed his eyes, the tension in his back easing considerably. His tone was resolute, as if convinced that her interest in the man could only be born out of curiosity and nothing more. "You’re right, Boss!" Ming Jian responded with a cheerful agreement. He swiftly gathered the offending photographs from the desk, leaving only the solo shots of the girl to spare Wen Renche any displeasure. Ming Fu, however, thought more than Ming Jian. He glanced at the man deep in thought, cautiously asking, "Boss, when are you planning to go to the Imperial City?" There was no denying the relevance of this question.
