Chapter 271: 250: What exactly is your relationship?
"Zhizhi is my wife." Shi Wei’s voice deepened, carrying a warning—warning the other man to stay away from someone else’s wife.
He casually stretched his long legs in an easy posture, smiling with deliberate nonchalance. "Matters between husband and wife are none of Mr. Wen’s business."
"Mr. Shi, you are quite confident."
"It’s better than being arrogant like some people."
The two addressed each other as ’Mr.’ in the politest terms, but the hidden turbulence in their eyes was as if each wished to drown the other.
Shi Wei caught the fleeting malice in Wen Renche’s gaze, and his mood lightened slightly. "Mr. Wen, farewell."
With a disdainful glance at Wen Renche’s darkened expression, he strode into the villa without looking back.
When he shut the door, he made sure to create a loud sound, as if chasing away some sort of filth.
"Shi Wei, are you back?" The commotion drew the attention of the young woman lying in the master bedroom.
Her soft, delicate voice amplified in the pin-drop silence of the hall, flowing like a gentle stream, soothing anyone in its path.
Shi Wei briskly walked upstairs. His head slightly downcast, he went straight to the sofa and sat down, slowly and steadily removing his somewhat dirty and disheveled suit jacket.
From beginning to end, he didn’t say a word.
Besides the soft rustling of fabric, the room was completely silent.
Yu Zhi sensed that something was wrong. She lifted one corner of her blanket, stepped into her star-patterned slippers, and padded over to him.
"Shi Wei, are you drunk?" She extended her hand, just about to touch his cheek, but he dodged her.
As her confusion grew, he finally raised his head.
His face was streaked with bruises, and Yu Zhi’s pupils flashed with a hint of shock. "Who hit you?"
Her tone grew serious, laced with subtle anger. Her small fists clenched tightly, as if ready to charge out and avenge him at once.
Shi Wei stared directly into the girl’s eyes. The words of accusation stuck in his throat, and he let out a bitter laugh. "If I told you it was Wen Renche, then?"
As his words fell, the air grew stiflingly still.
Shi Wei watched as her clenched fists loosened. A coldness gripped his heart, the chill gnawing at him until he could hardly breathe.
Just as he was about to stand and leave, his wrist was suddenly held tight. That warm touch instantly swept away all the icy torment.
"Shi Wei, I’ll go teach him a lesson." Yu Zhi pulled him to his feet, walking over to the coat rack and beginning to get dressed.
Her furious demeanor was convincing—she fully intended to punish that insolent man.
Who dared to lay a hand on her brother-in-law?
Shi Wei watched as the girl hastily wrapped herself in her coat. His Adam’s apple bobbed slightly, and his voice, coarse with emotion, gently called her name. "Zhizhi."
He wrapped his arms tightly around her waist from behind, halting her movements.
"He showed me your paintings today." His voice was buried against her neck, and the fringe of his eyelashes had grown damp.
Her actions gave him a sense of security.
Made his lifeless heart suddenly come alive.
Made him no longer need to wander ceaselessly through a maze of endless complexity, in search of a path to the light.
"What paintings?" Yu Zhi asked curiously.
She tilted her head slightly, trying to catch a glimpse of him.
But his grip was too strong, forcing her to remain in place, unable to turn.
Shi Wei explained briefly.
Jealousy spilled out of him recklessly. "Why did you paint those for him? What exactly is your relationship with him?"
