Chapter 270: 249: Why did you let her go alone?
His light remark made Bai Shirui’s face alternate between pale and flushed. She gripped the strap of her handbag tightly, her expression as gentle as ever.
"Master Shi, is your girlfriend not with you?" She glanced behind him with a look of slight puzzlement.
It was clearly an ordinary greeting, but Shi Wei still felt that this woman harbored ill intentions.
He unconsciously glanced at the deep blue woven bracelet on his wrist. His refined brows slightly raised: "What do you want?"
A man accustomed to high standing, his gaze carried an indefinable sense of pressure, making Bai Shirui, who was already a little guilty, even less daring to meet his eyes.
Her gaze wandered slightly, but she still maintained an impeccable smile at the corner of her lips: "Nothing, are you heading home now? Would you like me to give you a ride?"
"No need." Shi Wei sidestepped her and continued forward.
But before he reached the end of the corridor, a soft call came from behind again, drawing closer.
Bai Shirui caught up to his pace, keeping a certain distance to avoid displeasing him: "Master Shi, do you really like your current girlfriend?"
The question was somewhat overstepping.
Despite only meeting a few times, delving into someone’s personal matters was already bordering on irritating.
Shi Wei felt no interest in guessing what schemes the other might be plotting. His tone was indifferent: "Put away your thoughts."
"Master Shi, I’m just curious."
Bai Shirui’s expression remained candid, as if she truly meant it, with no trace of emotion in her eyes.
But this reasoning clearly failed to convince Shi Wei.
He let out a cold laugh, his distinct fingers pressing the cool elevator button, no longer sparing her a glance: "Next month, the Bai Family will receive a wedding invitation."
"A... wedding invitation?"
"Ding——"
The two sounds rang out simultaneously.
Bai Shirui did not receive a reply from the man. All he left her with was that hauntingly captivating silhouette as he departed.
She stared blankly at the closed elevator doors, her eyes brimming with disbelief, glistening with unshed tears.
Everything she had fantasized about, everything she had hoped for.
All of it, like a mirage fading away into nothingness.

At the entrance to the Shi Family’s house, two black cars were parked facing each other.
The piercing beams of their headlights tangled together. Even though the road was completely deserted, the atmosphere had already grown tense.
Wen Renche was the first to step out of his car. Standing by the door, he gave a sly and mocking smile as he looked across: "Mr. Shi, we meet again."
His teasing voice, laced with a hint of sarcasm, drifted through the air, becoming inexplicably grating.
Shi Wei felt a pang of regret.
He should have long anticipated that the other wouldn’t let go of any opportunity to be alone with the girl.
And tonight’s chance happened to be one he had given away.
"Mr. Wen, were you waiting for me?" Shi Wei’s gaze was sharp as blades, as though he wished he could tear the man apart with just his eyes.
Especially when he caught sight of those glaring bandages on the man’s face. His hands, hanging by his sides, tightened in jealousy once again.
"Yes, and no." Wen Renche chuckled.
He deliberately turned his head, making it easier for others to see the treated injuries on his cheek.
Suppressing the violent impulses surging within him, Shi Wei glanced toward the lit second-floor room, taking a deep breath: "Zhizhi is still waiting for me. Mr. Wen, please leave."
"Why would you leave her alone?"
Following Shi Wei’s gaze, Wen Renche looked in the same direction, his tone brimming with disapproval to the point of overflowing.
If it were him, he would never, under any circumstances, let trivial disputes between men leave a girl in the biting cold night.
