Chapter 55: Chapter 55 Warmth Sublimated (1)_1In the Bluen Family’s dining room, the layout was elongated. A long dining table was placed in the center, with five chairs on each side and one at each end, accommodating twelve people in total. Several paintings hung on one wall of the dining room. The opposite wall featured a long, embedded window with its clear glass slightly ajar. Two layers of curtains hung down: one of sheer fabric and the other of cloth. Typically, the sheer curtains were lowered, while the cloth curtains were drawn to the sides, allowing light from outside to filter in. Despite this, the dining room was dimmer than the outdoors. A luxurious crystal chandelier hung from the center of the ceiling. One end of the dining room served as the entrance, while the other end boasted an extra-large French window. This window faced a corner of the courtyard, offering a scenic view. The couple each took their seats. A short while later, Scarlett Taylor also came downstairs. The housekeeper instructed the servants to serve the prepared meal. After the three of them silently finished their lunch, Glades Horne didn’t leave immediately. Instead, he took Julia Bluen for a walk in the courtyard. At noon, the sun high in the sky was exceptionally blazing. The two strolled along the shaded path, enjoying the comfortable autumn breeze. Glades spoke in a deep voice, "After the wedding, I’ll have someone look for your sister’s whereabouts." Upon hearing this, Julia stopped in her tracks and turned to look steadily at him. Glades also halted, and the two gazed at each other. After a moment, Julia said softly, "Glades." She leaned into his embrace of her own accord, touched by his thoughtfulness. Glades chuckled softly and continued walking, holding her in his arms. Julia extended an arm around Glades’s waist. For the first time, she initiated intimacy with Glades as a lover, as a wife. It was also the first time she felt that the words she had once spoken with a self-mocking smile were true. "I’ll be a good wife." "I believe you." His low chuckle masked the awkwardness of having loved her from the very beginning without ever truly recognizing it. Julia smiled as well, snuggled closer, and he held her tighter. "By the way, I’m sorry about something." "What is it?" he asked, tipping his head to kiss her short hair. His voice was lazy yet filled with deep affection. "Rachel is going to be my bridesmaid. I didn’t have one yet, so I agreed without asking you first." Her voice was full of apology. "A bridesmaid is indeed necessary. Even if you hadn’t mentioned it, I would have helped you find one. It’s fine that you’ve found someone suitable on your own. A bridesmaid is indispensable for a wedding and isn’t considered a third party." His deep voice carried an intoxicating tone. "Have you chosen your best man?" "Hansen Ruiz would be a very good fit. Benjamin Robinson had asked if he could be part of the wedding, but in reality, Benjamin doesn’t have the time. May I ask what this is about?" Julia’s tone was cold and distant. "Miss Julia, do you have some time? I would like to talk with you in person," Dio Powell said, unfazed by Julia’s coldness, his voice still dripping with sycophancy. All business dealings between Cosmos Group and Valence Group had been severed on Glades Horne’s orders. Although it was actually a subsidiary of Valence Group that primarily conducted business with Cosmos Group, these dealings had been quite profitable for Cosmos. The sudden termination meant their losses were considerable. He knew this was Glades Horne taking revenge on Cosmos Group on Julia’s behalf. To restore the severed cooperation, he had to swallow his pride and appeal to Julia, hoping she would be magnanimous and spare Cosmos Group. "Mr. Powell, I don’t believe we’re well-acquainted, and there’s nothing for us to discuss." Julia’s tone became even colder. "I’m sorry, Mr. Powell, but I’m rather busy at the moment. I’ll have to hang up." For so many days, she hadn’t used her family’s power to unleash a storm of revenge. A man who could sacrifice his lover for his career would stop at nothing. But she hadn’t forgotten the hurt Diana and Nicholas had caused her, either.
