He turned his head to Julia Bluen and said, "Julia, all the buttons on my shirt have been blown open by the wind." Julia Bluen was taken aback at first, but then she understood. With a playful laugh, she pinched his waist and chided, "If you unbutton them again, I won’t button them back up for you." Glades Horne laughed deeply. His rich, magnetic laughter sounded intoxicating to Julia’s ears. This man, she thought, was charming through and through. No wonder that woman, Susan, had been infatuated with him for so many years and still hadn’t given up. "If you don’t button me up, won’t I be a treat for all those other women out there?" Glades Horne playfully teased. "Then I could find a new husband," Julia Bluen giggled. Her bell-like laughter was infectious, even causing the passersby who looked at them to smile. "Don’t even think about it!" Glades Horne immediately grasped her hand and said authoritatively, "Hurry up and protect your husband." Julia Bluen chuckled and poked his back with her finger. Nonetheless, she wrapped her arms around his waist again and started buttoning up the buttons he had undone. Glades Horne greedily watched her hands move across his chest. His cycling skills were already poor, and now, distracted, he lost control. The wheel slipped, and following Julia’s shriek, the two of them fell to the ground. "Julia!" Glades Horne quickly scrambled up, anxiously helping Julia Bluen to her feet. He nervously brushed the dust off her clothes, asking with concern, "Are you hurt? Where did you fall? It’s all my fault. Where does it hurt? I’ll take you to the hospital to get checked out." "I told you it would be better if I gave you a ride! Your cycling skills are terrible, not up to par at all." Julia Bluen couldn’t help but laugh. The road was sandy, and Glades had been cycling slowly, so the fall hadn’t hurt a bit. Still, seeing Glades’s anxious expression, she felt an incredible sweetness in her heart. "Are you alright?" Glades Horne wasn’t in the mood to respond to her teasing; his only concern was whether she was injured.
