Don’t let that hat fall off and your hair get revealed—otherwise, you’ll have a tough fight on your hands." These words kept ringing in Grey’s mind as the trio finally set out from the bungalowed house they were in. Millie held his hand as they walked side by side, Vanessa on the other end, studying the list in front of her while Grey trailed silently in deep thought. They stepped out of the house and began their journey, first passing through a sloping mountainous area that lasted several minutes, then entering a small forest that didn’t take more than ten minutes to cross. During the walk, Millie could be heard whistling cheerful tunes, occasionally tugging on Grey’s hand with playful excitement. Vanessa stole glances at Grey, noticing how silent and thoughtful he had become. ’What did she mean by my hair?’ he wondered inwardly, his fingers subconsciously brushing over the hat Yami had given him. ’What’s wrong with my hair? Everyone here has different styles—so what’s the big deal about mine? Is it the color? But Millie has purple hair, and no one’s hiding hers. So what exactly is the problem with mine? Wait, why the hell is my hair even red? Couldn’t it be anything else?’ Grey felt like facepalming himself at that point but held back and just sighed quietly as they continued along the dirt path. After a few more minutes of gentle pacing, a breathtaking view unfolded before him—one that immediately pulled him out of his spiraling thoughts. A beautiful town stretched out before them, buzzing with life and color. The streets bustled with townsfolk, market stalls brimming with fresh produce, spices, fabrics, and glowing trinkets. The air was filled with the mingling scents of roasted meat, ripe fruit, and freshly baked bread. Vendors called out to passing customers with eager smiles, and laughter echoed from corners where street performers played flutes and juggled small glowing orbs. No building rose higher than three stories, each one nestled closely beside the other, made from warm-toned wood and shingled rooftops. Only carriages and wagons laden with goods, either pushed or pulled by hand, populated the cobbled streets—no beasts in sight. What shocked Grey the most was the townsfolk themselves—many of them, even children, moved about with weapons strapped to their bodies. Blades, staffs, crossbows, and even strange gauntlets glimmered in the daylight. People traded with coins and the ones Grey could see most were bronze and silver coins. As he walked further with Millie joyfully swinging his hand back and forth, Grey absorbed every detail with a mixture of amusement, curiosity, and growing confusion. ’Hold on a second. I know Yami told me this continent houses warriors who use Ki, but why the hell are civilians carrying weapons openly like this? Even in a busy street? Do they get attacked regularly? Is that just the norm here?’ Grey clenched his jaw in frustration, struggling with the storm of thoughts crashing through his mind. ’Damn it! I have so many questions but no answers. Why the hell can’t I remember who the heck I am?!’ A tear trickled down his cheek as he gazed at the town in pained wonder, a small crack forming in the facade of composure he’d tried to hold. Vanessa, noticing the tear, turned her head slightly. ’Poor lad. He must be so overwhelmed with emotion after seeing the bustling town. I feel bad that he’s been cooped up inside for so long.’ Grey tried to brush away the tear before anyone else could see it. ’My memories!’ he screamed internally, clutching his fists. Vanessa eventually led them to a nearby stall situated beneath a hanging red canopy. At the stall, a neatly arranged table displayed several small, glossy pills scattered across soft velvet fabric. Each pill radiated a faint glow and came in three primary colors: Red, green, and yellow. After conversing with the merchant, Vanessa purchased ten of the red pills, carefully tucked them into a small pouch, and then they set out for another stall. "What are those?" Grey couldn’t help but ask, his eyes fixated on the way Vanessa clutched the pouch tightly while glancing around with cautious eyes. "Cultivation pills," Vanessa replied without breaking stride. "They help Yun warriors cultivate their Ki and refine their core." "A pill to cultivate your Ki?" Grey muttered in mild awe. "How helpful." "Yeah, it’s very helpful—and also very dangerous if not used properly." Vanessa shrugged, her tone casual but firm. "One more question," Grey continued as they strolled past several stalls. "Why is your home so far from the town and nestled around mountains and a forest?" "Same question I’ve asked my dad countless times," Vanessa sighed, casting a brief glance at him. "And he always refuses to tell me." While she turned left toward another stall to pick up a few things, Grey looked toward Millie, curious if she’d answer instead. "We do have friends," Millie piped up with a bright smile. "Dad’s students! They treat us nicely and even play with us sometimes. Dad didn’t want to teach me how to fight, so one of his students taught me instead... secretly, of course." She giggled mischievously. "Huh? Students? Mister Yami has students?" Grey asked in surprise, just as Vanessa returned with a few groceries in hand and a soft smile on her face. "Of course he does," she nodded. "After all, Dad is a prodigy in Ki and was once one of the heirs to a particular clan. Something happened, though. He never gave us the full story, but whatever it was, it made him flee to the mountains." "So... no relatives at all?" Grey asked curiously. "Nope. We’ve never seen any of our relatives before," Vanessa replied with a faint sigh, adjusting the groceries which looked heavy—but she carried them like they were weightless. "Aren’t those too heavy?" Grey asked with a raised brow. "Want me to help?" "Remember," Vanessa chuckled, "Ki enhances our strength." She turned away and continued leading the way, and Grey followed behind with an amused smile. "So... Finral—how strong is he really?" Grey asked, recalling the moment he nearly got his head blown off by the teenage hothead. "Brother Finral is very strong," Millie answered with a nod. "Out of all Dad’s students, he’s the second strongest. He’s a Stage 2 Yun warrior, while the strongest student is close to breaking into Stage 3!" "Stages?" Grey echoed, rubbing his temples slightly. His head was beginning to ache from all the new information. "Yes," Vanessa answered. "Yun warriors are divided into stages. Stage 1 is the beginner level, and... well, I don’t actually know the highest stage. But the higher the stage, the stronger the warrior." "So what stage are you two in now?" Grey asked, glancing at Vanessa. "I’m still a Stage 1 Yun warrior," Vanessa said with a soft smile, "and Millie’s still in the initial phase—just starting." "Well, you must be pretty strong to block Finral’s punch yesterday without flinching," Grey chuckled. "That..." Vanessa stuttered, remembering the moment. "I actually felt like my hand was going to get blown off if Finral hadn’t held back a little." "Still, you saved my face. Otherwise, I think I’d have had a hole where my nose used to be." Grey joked, making Vanessa laugh. "What about me?" Millie pouted as she bounced beside them. "I kicked Brother Finral in the face! That’s why he’s mad at me. Don’t I deserve some praise?" "That’s right, my cute little friend," Grey grinned as he crouched in front of her and pinched her cheeks gently. "Thank you for saving me yesterday." "You are..." Millie trailed off, eyes suddenly widening. "Look out!" "Huh?" Grey muttered, turning around while still crouched—and then something crashed into him, sending him tumbling backward onto the ground. "Damn it!" he groaned, rubbing his back as startled gasps echoed from the crowd around them. "Huh?" "Look at that!" someone shouted, pointing directly at him. Grey stood up in confusion, brushing the dirt off himself, only to notice Vanessa and Millie frozen in fear—staring wide-eyed at the surrounding crowd, many of whom had drawn their weapons. "What... What are they looking at?" Grey asked, puzzled, when Vanessa silently pointed at his head. Grey’s hand instinctively crept up—and that’s when he realized it. His hat had fallen off.
