Let’s have our meal in peace," Vanessa said with a frown forming between her brows as she glared at the couple in front of her. "Yeah, this is getting annoying now," Finral added with a scowl, clearly irritated. "Brother Finral! How’s the meat? I fried it myself," Millie said with a small, cheeky smile, her eyes twinkling with pride. But Finral didn’t respond. He quietly bit down on his food, his expression unreadable. "Finral..." Clarice called out softly, her voice laced with concern, but there was no response. The teenage boy simply stood up, wiped his mouth with a napkin, and exited the dining area with only a few words as parting. "I’m off to go train." "Is he always like that?" Grey asked after taking a gulp of water to wash down the lump of food stuck in his throat. "He’s never like that. I don’t know what’s gotten into him recently," Clarice said, a saddened expression clouding her face. "If you ask me, he’s just being a spoiled brat," Yami grumbled as he shoved a large scoop of food into his mouth. "Mum, I think Brother Finral is still angry at me for attacking him yesterday," Millie said, her eyes shimmering with tears as she looked up at Clarice. "No need to break out in tears, dear. You did the right thing by protecting our guest. But yes, you did hit your brother. He’ll come around soon enough—just give him time," Clarice said with a warm, reassuring smile as she gently rubbed Millie’s back. "Speaking of..." Grey said, a flicker of realization flashing across his eyes. He cleared his throat and looked around at everyone at the table. "What was that yesterday?" "What was what?" Yami asked with a raised eyebrow, mid-bite as he chewed on a juicy piece of steak. "The attack yesterday. How did someone as small as Millie manage to move Finral back? And how did Vanessa catch her older brother’s punch without flinching or even breaking a sweat? Also, although most of the things in this house are old, Finral still managed to destroy a chunk of the table with one hit. How are all these things even possible?" Grey asked, his brows furrowed. These were all thoughts that had been bothering him since yesterday. "It makes sense that you know nothing of all this, since you’re not from this continent," Yami began after swallowing a scoop of rice and chewing slowly, thoughtfully. "Alright, this food is too good for me to keep talking, so... Vanessa dear, kindly do your old pops a favor and explain to our guest what he needs to know." "Sure," Vanessa smiled as she turned toward Grey. She rinsed her mouth quickly with water and then brought her palms to her face, breathing into them a few times to check if her breath was okay. "I asked you to explain something to him, not to kiss him. What’s all the theatrics for?" Yami asked, his mouth half full as he stared at Vanessa, whose face had now gone beet red. Taking in deep breaths to calm down, she turned towards Grey. "You see, every Yun warrior on this continent practices an ancient technique that aids us in our day-to-day life. It helps us move faster, become more durable, enhances our strength, and also lets us do some other unbelievable things. Although not all Vayun citizens can do these things, as some are too weak to cultivate this power. And that’s what separates us—the warriors—from the normal citizens," Vanessa explained clearly, her voice steady and patient. "Ancient technique?" Grey asked with a raised eyebrow as flashes from the previous day resurfaced—when Finral tried to attack him. ’Is that why... with just a blink, I saw Finral cross a distance of two metres in a flash? I don’t want to be pulled into any fighting world. I’m too weak for that," Grey said quickly as he waved his hands countless times, almost comically defensive. "You might need it," Clarice added gently. "It would help protect you from danger—especially now that we know you’re from another continent." "No thanks, I’m good," Grey said firmly, though part of him wondered if he was making a mistake. "Alright then, I’m done eating, so I’ll be heading into town to get some things," Yami announced as he stood from his seat and stretched. "Dad!" Vanessa called out. "Allow me, Millie, and Grey to go instead." "Huh? Why take Grey?" Clarice asked with surprise. "Think about it. The poor boy has been cooped up in this house for three weeks—even though most of it, he spent asleep. Some fresh air and maybe some beautiful scenery might help lift his mood," Vanessa suggested with a hopeful smile. "I don’t know about this..." Yami said, rubbing his temples, clearly unconvinced. "Dad, I agree with Sis," Millie piped up eagerly. "Brother Grey is new to this place, so he needs to see more of our world. And don’t worry, nothing will happen to him. We’ll protect him with everything we’ve got!" she added, making a fist with both hands. Her words brought a small smile to Grey’s face—just as a blurry image of a little girl flashed in his mind, so brief and distorted that it made his head throb slightly. ’Ow!’ he winced internally. ’What... what was that?’ "Yami dear, the kids have solid points here. Let’s allow Grey to have a breath of fresh air," Clarice added, stepping in supportively. "Fine. But only if that’s okay with Grey," Yami added with a shrug. "Yeah, sure," Grey nodded quietly, still trying to focus his mind and bring the image back into clarity. "It’s decided then," Yami shrugged and turned to walk out of the dining room. A few minutes later, he returned—holding a piece of paper with a neat list of items scribbled on it, and in his other hand, a broad-rimmed hat. "Here, put this on," Yami said as he tossed the hat towards Grey, who caught it and stared at it in confusion. "Why?" Grey asked with a raised eyebrow. "It’s your hair," Clarice said calmly, her eyes narrowing as she stared at his head. "We can’t answer your question right now, but just know this—make sure it isn’t seen. Don’t let that hat fall off, and don’t let your hair get exposed... otherwise, you’ll have a tough fight on your hands."
