Chapter 249: Bad Decision?

Neraxis watched the fight drag on—it was the same thing, again and again. Kael dashed in, sent a sloppy attack, and was promptly knocked back. This really is disappointing... Neraxis sighed and began gliding down. By now, Kael's transformation had faded, and the classmates around him were exhausted, some even injured. But he didn't care about them for the time being, as they were nowhere close to death. On the other hand, Kael's organs were practically inverted by how many hits he took, and since his regeneration wasn't keeping up, he was going to die. Therefore, Neraxis floated beside him. In the very next moment, however, the massive snake brought down its tail onto Neraxis. Without even breaking a sweat, Neraxis turned toward the tail and caught it with a single raised hand. Then, he clenched, and before the snake even knew what was happening, Neraxis ripped its tail off and threw it to the side. Immediately, the snake began tossing and turning on the ground before finally slithering away, leaving all of them alone. For the time being, of course. "Kael," Neraxis called out. "That was quite the performance. And here I thought you would take this seriously." "..." Kael looked up at the night sky, not even uttering a word. Whether he was embarrassed or not, Neraxis couldn't tell. However, one thing was certain, and that was the fact that after all that talk, he couldn't come through. Neraxis could hear Kael's rough breaths, and at the same time, he noticed that Kael's heart had stopped beating. "You're hopeless..." Neraxis sighed, pricked his finger, and brought it over to Kael's mouth. He let a bit of blood flow down, landing inside Kael's mouth and flowing down his throat, until finally, his injuries began visibly healing. And of course, there was also the matter of his heart. But even then, it only took five seconds for Kael's heart to begin beating again, much healthier than before. Neraxis didn't turn him since even if he was his friend., Kael had potential, and if he simply gave handouts this freely, then Kael would never really be able to surpass him. "It's not going to stay like this for long. I'm going to accept my family's heirloom... After all, it seems like my strength has stagnated," Kael said flatly. Neraxis tilted his head. "An heirloom? What's that?" "A bloodline. I'll need to pass a load of trials before my family deems me capable enough to inherit it... my brothers already have it, and so does my older sister. I chose not to because I wanted to achieve everything with my own strength, and not borrow that of my family's," Kael replied. It was strange seeing him so serious for once, but aside from that... "Is that really what you want to do?" Neraxis asked. "You have time, and you're only in the second year of the academy. There are still two years left." Kael scoffed, glancing straight into Neraxis's eyes. "Two years? Really? After that message that appeared in all our systems earlier? We have months before people come and begin hunting you. We're just going to be collateral damage at that point." Neraxis froze. "...You're right. You're going to be nothing but a bunch of nuisances... Is that what you want to hear?" "Nope." Kael shook his head. "But I'd like it if you don't try to stop me from getting the heirloom. I'll get stronger, and maybe then, I won't be killed like some sort of bug." "If that's what makes you sleep at night, then sure," Neraxis said coldly. "On the other hand, you're done. Head back to camp. I'm going to go hunt down that snake." Kael sent him a fierce glare, not out of hatred, but simply annoyance. After all, Neraxis was acting a little stuck-up. But it wasn't because of arrogance, it was simply because what Kael said was right. In a few months... fuck, maybe even weeks, the higher beings are going to come and hunt me down... I'll need to find a way out for everyone I care about, Neraxis thought seriously before shooting up into the sky and trailing the massive blood trail of the snake. It hadn't gotten far, so it only took a few seconds to catch up. And the moment he did, Neraxis didn't hesitate to use {Stellar Dominion: Cosmic Cascade}. A starry aurora, bigger than ever before, manifested right above the snake, and before it knew what hit it, the aurora shot down, setting the snake aflame. But to Neraxis's surprise, it seemed like his Destruction property shined through the flames as the snake began disintegrating at a rapid pace, until finally, there was nothing left. Just too easy... I'm definitely getting a reality check once those fuckers come hunt me though, Neraxis thought with a sigh and began slowly making his way to the main campsite. Meanwhile, he also thought of the alternatives. Most worlds he had been to had their own Dreamspire, and sadly it wasn't connected to his own. After all, the Eternal Sin made sure of that. But if he really wanted to be safe, then he had to find a planet that didn't have a tower. Though, I can always try destroying it and sever the connection... but that doesn't guarantee me safety since it might just notify someone that I did it... It was really a fucking pickle, one he had no idea how to get out of. However, if he was presented with the same choice, he would do it again. After all, if Evangeline had been locked down on her world, then all of their efforts would've been for nothing. Now then... Neraxis hovered above the main campsite, where roughly 13 students were gathered. The twins were there, alongside Raeny, and even the two muscleheads. But for the time being, he would not disturb them. Instead... Why don't I pay Seraphina and Amaterasu a little visit?
