"Dodge!" Sona yelled, and with a roll of his eyes, he did just that.
"You don't need to tell me. The Kraken is literally the size of a skyscraper. I can see its attacks," Neraxis said, earning a shrug from her in response.
"It doesn't hurt to have extra information," she replied. "Besides, you got hit."
"Hm?" He tilted his head and looked down at his waist.
There was a clean line spanning from one end of his abdomen to the other.
When did that happen?
[Its natural habitat is the water, so it likely controlled its attacks to slice you.] Evangeline commented. [But it looks like an infant Kraken, so it likely doesn't know what it's doing.]
True. If it did, I'd be split in half by now. Neraxis nodded, before turning his gaze to the Kraken.
He decided to get the skills out of the way; thus, he used {Eve of Ruin's: Mark of Destruction}, followed by {Stellar Dominion's: Cosmic Cascade}.
A silver orb appeared, and alongside that, a flaming starry aurora burst down right onto the Kraken, slightly knocking it off balance.
It was a great opening skill, but against stronger enemies, all it managed to do was stagger them for a moment.
Nonetheless, that moment was enough for both him and Sona to jump up and slash down in unison.
They each cut a tentacle, with Neraxis instantly aiming his sword at the next one before using {Simple Stab}.
Immediately, another tentacle fell, and 8 more remained.
However, he noticed something odd. With each missing tentacle, the Kraken grew stronger.
"Sona, stop!" Neraxis shouted, making her halt in place and turn to him with a puzzled look.
"What's wrong now?" she asked, and he pointed at the cut-off tentacles.
Each one was still wriggling actively, but even more so, the Kraken's dark green body was pulsating and growing lighter in shade with each tentacle they cut off.
"This is a trap," he announced. "If we cut off all its tentacles, this Kraken will either evolve into something we can't kill or literally self-destruct like a massive bomb."
There were cases like this in the past, a monster with unusual regenerative properties, which, when pushed to the edge, killed itself, taking many people alongside it.
And since this situation had been orchestrated by the Gluttony Sovereign, it was even more plausible.
"So what do you want us to do then? Let it rampage around the fortress and let it kill everyone?" Sona asked with furrowed brows.
"Evacuate everyone, call the higher-ups... Or, we could try something else." He suddenly got an idea.
Stellar Dominion was by far his strongest single attack skill, and the way his Marks worked, especially the Decaying debuff, was that if he kept hitting the opponent, the debuff would never run out.
"Let's toy with it," Neraxis said with a smile, which seemingly startled Sona.
"Did you just kill it?" Sona asked with widened eyes.
"No, but it's very weak now. I think we should hold off on attacking. I'll still need to punch it every once in a while though," Neraxis replied.
It's not dead... Right? There's no notification.
[Nope, it's still alive. Albeit barely.] Evangeline said with a hum. [Though I wonder, is this girl talented or what? She seems to only be in second year, and yet, she's B ranked already.]
Could be, I've never heard of her before though. He remarked.
She, just like the rest of the girls he had come to know, Sona was nowhere to be seen in the past.
"Can I pet it?" Sona said out of nowhere. "I mean, it won't fight back, right? So like..." she trailed off, turning to him. "It should be no problem, right?"
"...Go for it," Neraxis replied, watching as she walked up to the massive Kraken and actually began petting it.
[She is a bit interesting. Her hair is almost the same color as mine, just a bit darker. If I had a sister, she'd likely look like her.] Evangeline said with a giggle, making him raise a brow.
You really have a knack for saying weird stuff. But it's fine, that's why I like you.
[Hey! You're copying me!] She replied, startled.
Nonetheless, he merely chuckled without responding and focused back on the massive Kraken.

Each time he cast his skill, Sona kept on petting it right after.
But eventually, it was finally time for him to cast the skill one final time.
"Go back, you can say goodbye to this massive sashimi."
"Don't call it sashimi... You messed up its skin, and now it's burning because of your skill," Sona grumbled, but walked back nonetheless.
"Well, it's going to do a lot more than burn now," he chuckled, before finally detonating the Mark of Destruction.
Immediately, its body began convulsing, filling up like a balloon.
The color of its skin was growing lighter too, which was a bad sign, but at the same time, his Mark of Destruction was on the verge of killing it.
Yet as he thought it was all over, it suddenly lunged upward, its speed far above anything he had seen before.
Soon, the Kraken's hate-filled eyes locked onto him.
"Sona, we need to move," he stated, as the massive Kraken's body began expanding, the Mark of Destruction fighting against its expansion just barely.
Nonetheless, one thing was certain.
The Kraken was about to blow itself up.
