Chapter 237: Bringing Evangeline Back, and a Broadcast?

Neraxis stepped back, nearly tripping as the ground, which had begun rapidly regaining color, shifted beneath him. The buildings were still broken, obviously. However, the grass, which had been nothing but ash a few moments ago, was now starting to regrow. Added to that, Evangeline began gliding down, wielding blood threads similar to his. But hers were much, much stronger than his. "Cease your futile resistance, vampire." Evangeline's cold voice rang out as she walked toward him. A faint smile was on her face—much more sadistic than usual. "So you can speak. Amazing," Neraxis said, gurgling on the blood that was pooling in his severed throat. "Can't you remember me, though? Neraxis Valen? The man who saved you back then? Gave you his blood? We even slept together. Does that not ring a bell?" "Sleep together?" Evangeline chuckled. "Your appearance is average at best, so I would never sleep with you." Oof. Neraxis's brows twitched. He wasn't cocky or anything, but he did pride himself on his looks. So, for the woman who had once said she loved him, it was a bitter pill to swallow. I wonder if this is how Evangeline really feels? Neraxis thought with a sigh. "Anyways, foul vampire, do you have any last words?" Evangeline asked, and the moment she did, Neraxis could feel a blood thread tighten around his neck. Instead of answering, Neraxis bit into his finger, then slashed the blood at Evangeline, making a few droplets fall onto her face. Some even landed right beside her lips, which she immediately licked with her tongue and let out a satisfied hum. "Your blood is delicious, I'll give you that much. However, it is time to die," Evangeline said with a warm smile. In the very next moment, Neraxis saw the world invert, until his face finally made contact with the grassy ground. He didn't die instantly, though his mana was depleting rapidly. In just a minute or two, Neraxis would die. "You're a bit different than the other vampires. Most would've died just then, I applaud you silently," Evangeline remarked, walking closer to him and picking him up by the hair before staring straight into his purple eyes. "You know, on second glance, you're not half bad. If I could have my way with you, I totally would," she added with a giggle. "But alas, there's no coming back from—" <Healing Has Been Enabled!> The moment that pop-up appeared, Neraxis teleported within his domain, appearing on one end—and in the very next instant, he mustered all the mana he had, reconstructing his body perfectly. It felt weird being headless, and as he stared at his pale lower body lying to the side, he couldn't help but sigh. "You're not a very civil talker, are you?" Neraxis muttered. "Though, I can see you were more assertive back then, much different than how you usually react when we are in bed." "Pfftt... yeah, I don't like you," Evangeline grumbled as the threads that were previously in the sky soon closed in on him. However, unlike last time, Neraxis was prepared, so he immediately teleported in front of Evangeline, and instead of attacking her like last time, he did something a bit... Different. "Hmph—!?" Evangeline's eyes widened in shock as Neraxis's lips were firmly pressed onto hers. The blood threads heading for him sped up, however, the moment they were about to pierce his body, they stopped. "What is happening?" Evangeline muttered as she pushed him back, wiping away the kiss and glaring at him. "How dare you kiss me, you foul vampire!" "You didn't push me away, now did you?" Neraxis chuckled. He had realized a pattern since earlier. Every time they were close, she seemed hesitant, and her attacks only landed when she was further away. Of course, there was the matter of her ripping his heart out, but after that, it was pretty tame. Nonetheless, he watched as Evangeline conjured a few swords of blood and aimed them right at him. However, he could see her eyes faintly trembling, and her hands even more so. She couldn't do it, which meant she was coming back. Neraxis approached closer and closer, until finally, he was right in front of Evangeline. "I like your red hair more," he said with a chuckle, and the moment he did, a single tear fell from Evangeline's eye, which didn't go unnoticed by him. He brought his hand closer, placing it gently on her cheek and wiping away the stray tear. She was beautiful as always, and her warm skin felt even warmer to the touch than usual. By now, Evangeline was merely staring at him—tears streaming from her black eyes, which, after a few seconds, began changing into a scarlet hue. Of course, Neraxis didn't tease her further, as he leaned in again, kissed her on the forehead, then along the forehead, traveled down slowly to her nose, her cheek, and finally, her lips. Just this time, she didn't push him away, and instead, the blood swords she had formed moments ago fell to the ground, splattering as if control had been lost over them. He held her tightly by the waist, indulging in the kiss, until eventually, her pitch-black hair began changing to red, and now... "...Neraxis?" Evangeline muttered, her tone much different than a few minutes ago. "W-Woah, you're hurt! W-Was it my doing?" She scrambled together, slashing her wrist before trying to pour her blood into his mouth. Since Neraxis liked the taste of her blood, he didn't hesitate to accept, even if he didn't exactly need it. After a few seconds of calming down, Neraxis glanced straight into her scarlet eyes before giving her a tight hug. "I'm glad you're here, Evangeline," Neraxis said softly, earning a giggle from Evangeline. "Sorry for hurting you... I was out of it for a few minutes," she replied cheerfully, as she hugged him back, touching his body all over. "What are you doing...?" Neraxis muttered, puzzled. "Well... you technically stole my first kiss again, so I want to get all the firsts back in one go," Evangeline said with a cheeky smile. "Do you maybe want to speed up the week a little? Maybe... we should do it now?" Neraxis chuckled. "I don't mind—Huh?" A peculiar sight appeared beside him, which seemed to also attract Evangeline's attention as she furrowed her brows. <The Fragment of the Abyssal Calamity, Evangeline Noctis, has been revived!> <The laws of the world are attempting to bind Evangeline Noctis to this land!> The moment that last pop-up fell, Neraxis saw a deadly pressure descend from the skies—traveling straight toward the surprised Evangeline. He immediately reacted and flew up in front of her, colliding with that pressure. The next moment, he felt a weird presence wash over him before sinking deep inside his body. "Uh? Is that it?" Neraxis muttered, confused.
