The day finally ended with Eric following Alex around all day like a little minion and only left when curfew was about to reach.Morning came quickly, class was finally going to begin today. Alex woke up early, excited about his first day at the magic university. He took his bath and put on his uniform before leaving his room. Reaching outside, Alex saw lots of students who were done preparing and were already outside the dorm; he apparently wasn’t the only one who was excited about the start of class. After leaving the dorm section, many of the students headed for the cafeterias to get breakfast first. But Alex didn’t necessarily need to eat, so he headed for the lecture building for first-year students first. It took him some minutes to arrive at the building and a few more minutes of wandering around before he located the large hall where the orientation would be taking place. It was a massive hall with thousands of seats facing a meter-high platform at the end of the hall. Alex quietly went to take a seat at the forefront and waited for the orientation to begin. Some time later, students began to pour into the hall and occupy the seats. In less than twenty minutes, almost all of the seats in the hall were occupied by students; all of the first-year students had arrived and were eagerly waiting for the orientation to begin. After another ten minutes had passed, a group of instructors entered the hall. Some of them were in colourful robes while others were in casual outfits. The oldest-looking female instructor walked in while the rest of the four followed behind her. Of the five instructors, Alex recognised four of them; the four behind the elderly looking female instructor were Ellie and the three mages who had been in charge of their admission test. The orientation started after the five of them took their positions on the platform with the elderly instructor standing in front while Ellie and the three mages stood behind her. At a glance, Alex saw that the elderly instructor was at the Sorcerer Mage rank, the same rank as Maria! Looks were really deceiving, who would imagine that a granny-looking instructor would be so powerful? As for the three mages standing beside Ellie behind her, they were all at the Archmage rank. The elderly instructor started by introducing herself as the vice Dean of Brandvel Magic University and also an instructor for senior classes, and her name was Hannah. She then went on to congratulate all the students present for making it into the prestigious Magic University. Maybe because Brandvel Magic University was already very popular, Vice Dean Hannah didn’t bother talking about the prestige and history of the university to the students; rather, she immediately started to tell them what to expect once they officially started learning. First was the number of classes that they would have to take. There were a total of ten classes that first-year students could take. As they went further in their years of studying, the classes would either increase or decrease. From the team classes available to them, four were compulsory classes, while the other six were optional, and they could decide which of them to take. The compulsory classes were: General knowledge on mana. Spell structure. General magic knowledge, and lastly General magic beast knowledge. The other six classes that were optional were: Basic formation knowledge. Basic crafting knowledge. Basic enchantment knowledge. Battle tactics. Basic alchemy. And magic theories/ irregular magic applications. Those were the classes that were available to first-year students, and as they moved up in classes, they could either decide to add more or remove some; up to them. But to make sure they passed their exams, which were an assessment held every three months, students were required to perform well in all compulsory classes and two optional classes. So it was sort of six compulsory classes since they needed the marks from all six classes to pass the assessment, the only good thing about the other two was that they had the freedom to choose which class they wanted to add to their studying list. The scores for the assessment included written examinations and combat assessment, so in another sense, battle tactics were automatically included in some students’ list of classes. Unless they were confident that they didn’t need it and had enough combat awareness. Of course, students were free to take more than two optional classes but only the results from two would be calculated. Then, it came to the ranking; this was the major reason for the three-month assessment and where the benefits of entering the magic university mostly came from. After every three months, the students were ranked according to their scores from the assessment. Those who managed to enter the top three in the ranking would receive one grade 1 mana Core after the assessment. The top two hundred would get three grade 1 mana cores, and the top one hundred would receive five grade 1 mana cores to aid their training! As long as one got into the top fifty, they would be given two grade 2 mana cores by the university. The top 20 received three grade 2 mana cores, and the top 10-6 got ten grade 2 mana cores! The top 5th and 4th place got ten grade 3 mana cores each, plus two days leave from lectures; their absence would not affect their attendance, which would also affect their next assessment result. The top 3 places get ten grade 4 mana cores and a one-week leave from lectures! This was calculated as seven class days, weekends aren’t included. The top 2 received one grade 5 mana core, a week’s leave from lectures, and one week’s access to the mana chamber in the university! The mana chamber was an artificially created room with a heavy concentration of mana. Training in it would increase mana absorption speed several times and help one get stronger faster than training in the outside world. As for first place, they would receive two grade 5 mana cores, one week leave, one week in the mana chamber, and access to the university’s vault where they could pick any magic item of their choice! ’How generous,’ Alex thought to himself, thinking of how much he could make from selling the rewards he would receive from getting first place. The students also began to murmur in anticipation. The rewards for each rank were just as enticing to them as they were to Alex, and they all dreamed of getting first place or at least top five. Unlike Alex who didn’t have any use for the rewards and wanted to sell what could be sold, the other students knew the value of the rewards and how much their strengths would increase if they used them well. After Vice Dean Hannah was done explaining, she introduced the four people behind her as some of the instructors who would be in charge of guiding the students through their first year in the magic university. As for the classes that they were in charge of, they were told that they would find out later. Alex already knew Ellie. The three men, however, were those whose names he had just learnt. They were instructor Dave, instructor Clerk, and instructor Henry respectively. After learning the names of the instructors, the four of them stepped forward and waved their hands. Papers appeared from their storage devices and flew toward each of the students, they were then told to tick the classes that they would want to take and write their names at the top space of the paper. A paper flew toward Alex, and he grabbed it. He looked at it and saw the ten classes written on one side of the paper, with the boxes where they were meant to be ticked beside them. Alex took out his pen and ticked the four compulsory classes first before moving to the optional classes. He first ticked the basic formation knowledge class before thinking of which other class he would want to take. He wasn’t too interested in crafting, enchantment, or alchemy. As for battle tactics, he honestly didn’t need them since any move that the students and even instructors would try to pull would be useless in front of his strength. As for magic theory/irregular magic application, Alex felt that this class might be of some interest but wasn’t really sure. It would be bad if it turned out to be boring and he ended up losing interest, it would affect his assessment score. So after giving it some thought, Alex ticked the battle tactics class and the magic theory class. One was where he was certain of getting a full mark, while the other was one that he wanted to check out and hoped would interest him. The students were given five minutes to think and carefully pick the classes they wanted to add to their learning schedule. After five minutes had passed, the papers flew back to the four instructors on the platform.
