They were all shocked to see the headless corpse that had appeared on the ground, it didn’t release any aura as if it were a rankless creature, but had a similar appearance to the spawns they had fought earlier."Mr Chen, is this...?" Julius asked in disbelief.
"Yes, it’s the corpse of the Void demon that resided in the crack," Alex confirmed, causing everyone to gasp in greater shock.
The corpse of a Void creature was unimaginably valuable, yet Mr Chen was giving it away just like that? Now, many people wish that it were a member of their family who had been kidnapped by Malcolm’s daughter.
Alex turned to Clint and told him to make sure that the corpse of the void demon was delivered to Alex. Clint nodded obediently as he stored away the corpse and promised to personally hand it over to Alex on Mr Chen’s behalf.
Not far away, Malcolm silently watched all of this with a hideous expression on his face. He didn’t dare speak up for fear of Mr Chen doing something to him. Even though he knew that his daughter was at fault but he couldn’t just let bygones be bygones!
After handing over the corpse of the Void demon, Alex left the place and returned to the hospital where his family were waiting.
He found a corner to take off the all-knowing mask and robe before entering the hospital.
Immediately after he arrived, Freda welcomed him with a fierce hug as she sobbed. Zoran and Emily also joined in. She had woken up some time ago and they were all happy that Alex had returned safely.
After all, they had seen lots of mages who were in terrible conditions being brought to the hospital for treatment.
While the family shared a happy reunion and Balon City began its restoration process, it was a completely different scene at a different location.
Far away from Balon City, the Black Robe of the Dark Union, who was behind the creation of the crack above Balon City, slammed his hands into the wall as he looked at the crystal orb that showed a view of Balon City after the cracks disappeared.
BAM!
The wall shook violently as two fist marks immediately formed on the hard wall.
"Damn you, Mr Chen. I swear I’m going to kill you, even if it’s the last thing I do!" The Black Robe said through gritted teeth as his body released a powerful killing intent.
The people in yellow robes standing in the room all moved back away from him and didn’t dare to make a sound for fear of attracting his attention while he was angry.
The man had planned to carry out a bloodbath in Balon City twice, but both attempts had been ruined by a single person, Mr Chen.
It wouldn’t be surprising if he developed a trauma toward that name.
In a corner of the room, the little kid with a lollipop that Alex had encountered previously sat on the armrest of a chair. He was still running his tongue over the lollipop, but he now wore a red robe that had similar designs to the yellow robes and black robes of the other people in the room.
His eyes showed a contemplative glint, thinking of how they should deal with Mr Chen.
Or should they ask for the help of a saint?
’No, doing that will threaten my position as a red robe and destroy all my years of hard work to the Dark Union.’ the kid thought to himself. After a while, his eyes lit up and he turned to look at the black robe that was destroying everything around him.
"Red moon, contact Red eyes. I have instructions for him."
The black robe, who was throwing a tantrum, instantly came to a stop when the kid called his name, and he immediately left to carry out the order.
After the black robed figure left, the kid resumed licking his lollipop.
"Mr Chen, let’s see if you can continue performing miracles after this." He mumbled to himself.
....
Back in Balon City.
Clint quickly gathered the members of the Union and other explorers to start cleaning up the place. Although the battle had taken place on the outskirts, some parts of Balon City had been affected and a lot of damage had happened as a result of this. This included destroyed buildings and craters that had formed all over the place.
But for the time being, the City was focused on retrieving the corpses of mages who had died during the fight.
Although they had said that it was one of humanity’s greatest victories over cracks, the number of deaths still reached a thousand.
Those who had died included Union explorers, students and teachers of magic academies, and visitors who had originally come to Balon City to watch the tournament.
It was a sad victory but there was nothing that you could do about it.
The entire cleaning process was estimated to take up to a week before people in the city would be able to return to their usual lives.
So while the Union explorers and hired explorers were busy with retrieving corpses and reorganising the scenes of battle, the leading figures of the Union were dealing with other matters.
For example, handing Alex’s gift to him.
Alex was summoned to the Union building. Zoran had insisted on following him because he didn’t know if his son was in trouble or not to have been called to the Union building.
However, he was made to wait in the reception hall while Alex was brought to the meeting room.
Entering the room, Alex saw the familiar faces of Clint, William, Julius, Ellie, and the Dean of his academy. He didn’t show any surprise toward them as he confidently walked toward the long executive table.
This wasn’t his first time entering this room, but this was his first time coming here without his mask on. It made Alex feel strange, but he remained calm.
"You don’t seem too surprised to see us," Clint said as he looked at Alex, he had one eyebrow raised.
"This isn’t my first time seeing you all," Alex replied calmly.
"Haha, not bad, not bad Alex." The Dean of his academy laughed at Alex’s response, his beard shaking from the movements of his jaw.
Julius and Ellie didn’t comment and just smiled, what Alex said was true.
"Fair enough," Clint said, realising that his question wasn’t even necessary. The old man was the Dean of Alex’s academy and must have met him already. He had heard about Julius giving Alex the recommendation letter and figured that Ellie must have been present too.
As for him and William, they had already been around during the tournament and who didn’t know him as the leader of Balon City’s Union branch?
"You want to go first?" Clint asked, turning to look at the old Dean.
Alex was curious. He had only told them to give him the corpse of the Void demon, so what were they going at again?
He saw the Dean suddenly turn serious before asking.
"Alex, be honest with me. Are you a part of any secret group?"
Alex "..."
