Chapter 194: Void knight

The voice was calm, yet it spread to every corner of Balon City; everyone heard the words, and it was as if their bodies had been paralysed by fear; they were unable to move.In the hospital where Alex’s family was, Alicia stared out of the window with wide eyes, her arms trembling. ’Another monster!’ she screamed in her thoughts. The voice just now gave her the same feeling as when she met Alex the first time. Back at the outskirts, everyone froze after the voice spoke; spawns and mages included. Only Alex was able to move and the only reason he had frozen too was due to shock. The owner of the voice appears to know about the system, a secret that only he should know about! What’s more shocking was that the words of the voice indicated that they could sense Alex’s system and this wasn’t the first time they had sensed him. Another shocking thing was when they said ’a second system’. ’He wasn’t the only one with a system?’ Alex thought to himself, his eyes narrowed and he put his mask back on. At this moment, another space in the sky next to the crack rippled like the surface of a disturbed lake. Next, space twisted and a tear appeared. Another crack! The eyes of all the mages present widened to the point of almost popping out of their sockets. Julius and the others felt like the world had something against them. One crack was already devastating enough, two cracks appearing at the same time was straight up death for everyone! Alex continued to watch with narrowed eyes. After the second crack formed beside the first one, void creatures didn’t immediately start to appear. What came out instead was a single creature. A look of surprise formed on Alex’s face when he saw the creature that came out of the crack. It was a creature with the physique of a human, but was clearly something else, as its head was something that Alex had never seen before. Two vertical eyes took the upper section of its face, while the rest of its face was just smooth skin. This made Alex wonder how it was able to speak. This creature wore a full-body silver armour, its humanoid arms were covered in smooth gauntlets, and it held a long, slim sword in one hand. After coming out of the crack, the creature stood in the air. Apparently, it could fly. Its vertical eyes glanced at the chaos on the ground. "Demon spawns? What are they doing here?" The creature spoke again, its words spreading across the city. Meanwhile, immediately after the creature appeared, Alex had used the ability of the all-knowing mask on it. ... [Void knight: guard of the realms, keeper of balance.] ... Alex "..." That’s it? What was he supposed to do with such little information?! He returned his focus to the Void knight in the sky after reading the information provided by the all-knowing mask. At this moment, the Void knight commented on the spawns. It then turned and looked at the first crack that wasn’t too far away from it, it instantly understood why these spawns were here. "Die," the Void knight suddenly said. The next moment, a series of explosions erupted across the outskirts as all the spawns exploded into purple particles that drifted in the air. This turn of events shocked everyone, the thousands of spawns that had been killing the mages were all killed by a single word from this creature! Even Alex was startled by this ability as well. Shockingly, after all of the spawns died. They didn’t come back to life like they used to, instead, the purple particles all flew back into the first crack as if running away from something. "Now, time to get rid of you." The voice of the Void knight rang out again after all the purple particles retreated into the crack. Alex suddenly felt a chill from his left, he disappeared from where he was standing without turning to look first and appeared several meters away. Swish! After Alex appeared in a different location, he turned to look at where he was standing just a moment ago and his eyes couldn’t help but widen. Standing there with its slim sword already slashed out was the Void knight! Alex could see the clear tear that had formed in space and was currently closing up. The sword of this creature could cut through space! "Hmm, you dodged it; that’s a first." The Void knight said, its vertical eyes gazing intently at Alex. Alex felt that something was wrong and looked down at his chest. His soul almost left his body when he saw the small cut on his robe. ’Not good!’ he screamed internally and instantly activated Void Walk, he disappeared into it the next moment. But before he could go too far, a slim sword pierced into the white space and made a large cut through which the outside world could be seen. In front of this cut section stood the Void knight, it was staring at Alex. "I can sense the system; naturally, I can see its abilities." It said to Alex before slashing at him again with a speed that was beyond human comprehension. Alex felt it as the sword slashed down, the feeling of death! It was the same feeling he had when he came face to face with that truck after he pushed his brother’s bully into the major road. "Blink!" Stars appeared at an even faster speed, and Alex disappeared into a flicker of silver light. The slim sword missed again and created another cut in space that slowly started to close up. Alex appeared hundreds of kilometres away from Balon City after he used Blink. Under his mask, his face was covered in large beads of sweat as he looked around with sharp eyes. Something prompted him to look down and Alex saw that another small cut had appeared on his robe again. He felt like cursing but the Void knight appeared in front of him before he could do anything, its feet hovered some meters above the ground. "There is no use running, balance has to be maintained; two can not exist in the same timeline." The Void knight spoke with an expressionless tone, lifting its slim sword again. Alex didn’t wait for it to slash down before he used Blink and Void Walk again, instantly appearing several thousand miles away. He already knew that he couldn’t avoid this knight by entering the white space of Void Walk, so he might as well use it for what it was made for. The Void knight looked in the direction that Alex had gone, and it lowered its sword before flying in that direction. Its speed was so great that it simply faded away without creating even the slightest gust of wind. Several seconds later, Alex finally stopped using Blink and Void Walk as he believed that he had gone far enough. He was currently standing on top of the remains of a collapsed mountain range, which was where he had met Alicia for the first time. The Void knight appeared in the air above him the next second. "You can’t run away from me, I am the keeper of balance." It stated. Alex didn’t blink away again but looked at the knight instead. "You must have made a mistake, I wasn’t running away; I just didn’t want to destroy the city by fighting you close to it."
