Chapter 148: Laura’s match

Laura retracted her gaze and stopped glaring at Alex as the voice of the referee announcing for the match to begin sounded in her ears. Her opponent was a student from the Seren Moon Magic Academy and was also a Core mage just like Laura. Immediately the match started, the other party summoned his stars, they were pale blue coloured stars which meant that the student had the ice element. The student summoned ten stars directly and was ready to attack Laura with a Core rank spell. Laura also made her move after seeing this and their fight started officially. It was as if seeing Alex had irritated her too much, Laura was fighting like a fire demon in the arena. She didn’t give her opponent the chance to even catch a breath as she hurled raging flames at him. Her casting speed was shockingly fast despite her needing to form two star patterns, and her mana reserve felt boundless to those watching. Fireballs, flares, and fire claws were thrown at the ice mage from Seren Moon Magic Academy in quick succession, causing him to be unable to cast his own spells and only focused on running away while Laura chased after him like a fire demon. The scene caused the students of the Dragonic Magic Academy to shudder and the teachers to reveal poker faces, as expected of their goddess Laura. It was a pity that she had left the academy and was now representing another academy. Teacher Arnold had a proud expression as he watched the match. He didn’t care that Laura was fighting for a different academy; all that mattered was that she was doing well. Those who had come to watch the tournament couldn’t help but feel bad for the ice mage who was being chased around by Laura. The others from the Seren Moon Magic Academy also felt the same as they watched their student getting oppressed by the demon-like Laura. The ice mage was already covered in several burns and his uniform was a mess, yet Laura wasn’t slowing down even a bit; the speed of her casting was even getting faster! The ice mage in the arena felt like crying. He was a bit slow to react after just dodging a fire claw and a huge fireball crashed beside him and exploded, sending him flying. Getting up, he looked at Laura, who already had numerous tongues of flames floating around her in the distance, and tears instantly formed in his eyes. What was his offence? Did he unknowingly anger this demoness? They were both Core mages, and he even had the ice element, which was supposed to be a good counter for the fire element, but why did it feel like he was an ordinary human fighting against a mage instead? He was constantly getting blasted around without a chance to even attack. The only times that he had managed to use spells were at the beginning of the match! Too much, this bullying was too much! Unable to bear it anymore, the ice mage raised his hands and screamed that he surrendered and didn’t want to fight Laura anymore. The audience and members of his academy heaved sighs of relief after the ice mage surrendered, they didn’t blame him or look down on him for throwing the match and even felt it was a wise choice. An opponent like Laura wasn’t someone he should fight. They were at the same rank, yet Laura made it look like her opponent just awakened his element; it was too painful to watch. Thankfully, although Laura was irritated by Alex and had gone all out on her opponent, she didn’t lose herself completely and had stopped her flames immediately after her opponent surrendered. She shot another glare in Alex’s direction before walking off the arena. Those around Alex were stupefied, thinking that Laura was looking at all of them again. What did her stare mean? Was she warning them? After Laura’s match, the remaining matches for the day mostly included the top academies and didn’t take long to finish. Although not as brutal as Laura’s match, the representatives of the top academies had claimed overwhelming victory over their opponents. They had displayed clearly that they were not on the same level as their opponents, even though they were in the same rank; their methods were just not as extreme as Laura’s. Soon, all matches were over and it was time for everyone to return home. Alex stood up and left the sitting area to go look for his family. After walking for some time, he stopped as he felt someone following him; he already knew who it was. "Thank you," the voice of the Vice Dean sounded from behind him after he stopped. Alex paused for a bit before he resumed walking, he didn’t reply to her words. The Vice Dean also didn’t keep following him, it seemed that was all she really wanted to say to him. Alex met up with his family and members of the Rising Wave group, and they began to comment on Alex’s match against the lightning mage. "I just knew you were a monster, fighting these kids is just unfair!" Joan said jokingly while slapping Alex’s shoulder softly. "Right, Right?! Big brother was so cool, I want to be just as cool when I awaken!" Emily exclaimed as she looked at Alex with sparkling eyes. She looked like a fan who had finally met her idol. Alex smiled in response and rubbed her hair. "But that was too much, you shouldn’t have thrown him that hard; he must have gotten hurt badly." Alex’s mother spoke up from the side. She didn’t sound too happy about what Alex had done. Alex wanted to say something but Simon suddenly threw his right hand over his shoulders and pulled him closer as he explained. "You don’t have to worry, mages have tough bodies and can take hits. Moreover, that kid was a Core mage, so such a thing shouldn’t be too much for him to bear." "But when he crashed into the barrier, it didn’t sound alright." Alex’s mother mumbled with a face that showed that she was remembering what happened earlier. "Seriously, don’t worry about it. Besides, a healing spell was used on him so he should be fine." Simon waved his other hand before bending in on Alex and saying in a low voice. "Your display today must have won the hearts of many young girls in your academy. Come on and tell me, is she a student in your academy or someone in the audience? Was that why you showed such an overbearing display?" Simon had a mischievous grin on his face as he asked these questions and even winked at Alex. Alex "..." ’What is he talking about?’ Alex thought to himself. Seeing Alex’s perplexed expression, Simon was about to speak when Phil appeared on the other side and added. "Don’t gossip alone, tell me too. Who’s the lucky girl?" Now Alex was really confused. "What girl?" "Don’t act dumb with us, of course it’s the one you sneaked out to go see on the night of the auction. We covered for you so you should tell us!" Phil stated. Alex "..."
