Balon City descended into a state of chaos with the appearance of the crack. Minutes had passed since the crack appeared but nothing had come out of it yet. However, the residents of Balon City were already taking action and preparing themselves for what was to come.
Ellie, Julius, and the Dean of the Dragonic Magic Academy took the lead as the only Archmages present in the City. They passed orders, gathering all the mages in the City while asking the non-mage residents to retreat to the safety of their homes.
A huge battle was about to break out. Every mage present gulped with nervousness, and they could almost hear each other’s heartbeat. Sweat silently formed on their foreheads as they stared at the crack.
These included explorers in the City, students of the various magic academies, visitors who had originally come to watch the tournament, and rogue mages.
Everyone had been called to fight!
Alex had used the coverage of the chaos to sneak away from the stadium and went to the hospital where Emily and the others were.
Arriving there, his parents immediately asked what was going on outside and what the big tear in the sky was.
They had seen all the mages in the hospital leave to go answer the summon.
Alex explained that it was a crack that a lot of magic beasts would soon come out of, at least that was how he understood it; he had never seen an actual void creature before and didn’t know what they looked like.
He also told them that he had to go and help since he was also a mage. Emily had been treated and was currently sleeping soundly so they didn’t have to worry about her anymore.
Although Freda felt that it was going to be dangerous, she didn’t try to stop Alex from going since every other mage was going to help as well, she just told him to be careful and stay close to Mia and the others so that they could protect him.
Alex agreed, he then turned to Alicia. The windrend understood what was going on since she had seen a crack before, she didn’t need any briefing from Alex.
"Protect them with your life." Alex whispered a command to her as he walked past her.
Alicia gulped before putting on a serious face as she watched Alex leave.
Returning to the stadium where most of the mages were gathered, Alex didn’t go in his academy uniform. He wore his mask and black robe instead.
Since there was something that could interfere with his senses, he didn’t know what else these people were capable of so he had to be careful.
If there were ways to restrict Archmages and sages from using mana, who could tell that there wasn’t one for Saint rank mages as well?
If not, why weren’t the Saint mages who already existed take over the world for themselves? There must be something that they were wary of and Alex couldn’t afford to be careless!
He appeared in the air above the stadium and slowly drifted down, his arrival instantly filled the faces of the present mages with hope and increased their fighting spirit.
Mr Chen had arrived!
Everyone knew of Mr Chen and how he was a top expert, his mere presence made them feel safe.
Upon sighting him, the current strongest mages immediately went to welcome him, they included the Dean of Dragonic Magic Academy, Julius, Ellie, William, Clint, and other Master rank mages.
"Thank God you’re here, Mr Chen. The City is in danger!" Clint cried out as he reached Alex.
"Mr Chen, what do we do? Give your commands." Julius voiced out.
Alex stayed silent; the truth was that he didn’t know what to do, either. This was his first experience with a crack, why were these people expecting so much from him?
But he knew why, because he was Mr Chen, the mysterious expert.
He didn’t say anything and continued staring at the crack. He used the ability of the all-knowing mask on it, but the information wasn’t very useful.
It only said what Alex already knew. Alex wanted to know how to make the crack disappear.
Did they need to kill all of the demons that would be coming out of the crack for it to disappear? What was the limit of creatures that would come out? Or did they need to go in and defeat it like a dungeon?
Alex thought for a bit before suddenly saying.
"I haven’t seen one of these in a long time and I have forgotten how to defeat one, who remembers?"
Everyone was stunned when they heard Mr Chen’s words, just how old was Mr Chen that he didn’t even remember the last time he faced a crack?
The old Dean quickly came to Alex’s rescue.
"Mr Chen, the method of defeating a crack isn’t fixed but there’s usually a void demon controlling the minions, going inside the crack and killing the void demon should close the crack."
Alex "...."
Go inside the crack? Isn’t this a mobile dungeon then?
Alex nodded in silence and didn’t respond, the Dean fell into silence as well because he didn’t want to distract Mr Chen’s thinking.
At this moment, the crack released a low buzzing sound that rang through the entire City. Everyone instantly turned to look at it.
From the crack, a creature climbed out.
Short wings, purple scales covering its body, round head with a bat’s facial features, and a humanoid physique.
’So that’s what a demon looks like.’ Alex thought to himself as he stared at the creature floating in front of the crack.
It didn’t stop there as more similar-looking creatures climbed out of the crack. Some had long wings, others had short wings like the first one, while some had none and dropped to the ground after coming out of the crack.
In a matter of seconds, over a thousand of these creatures had appeared from the crack and more were still appearing every second.
From where Alex could see, it looked like the ones without wings were landing on the outskirts of Balon City.
There were people there!
"Everyone, head to the outskirts!" Alex voiced out before disappearing.
"Go!" Julius shouted after Alex disappeared. He shot toward the outskirts as well, and the thousands of mages that they had gathered moved behind him.
The ground of Balon City shook as thousands of Mages rushed toward the outskirts, it was as if a great army was advancing.
Reaching the outskirts, they saw that the fight had already broken out. The demons were attacking the people on the outskirts.
The humans stood no chance against them. The Union officers fired their magic weapons, and the few mages tried to fight back, but the demons were just too powerful.
What was more terrifying was that they could attack with spells and didn’t need to connect any star patterns or constellations.
They just pointed their fingers and spells would fly out.
The entire place was a mess, blood painted the ground, decapitated limbs of humans, and collapsed buildings.
"Go, kill them!" Julius shouted as his eyes changed colour and dozens of stars appeared above him.
The other mages also summoned their stars as well, ready to join the battle.
Meanwhile, Alex appeared in front of the first demon with short wings.
Squish!
His hand, covered with lightning, easily pierced the chest of the creature, killing it instantly.
"Hmm, no exp?" Alex was stunned as he stared at the body of the creature hanging from his hand.
He didn’t receive any exp notification after killing it.
