Chapter 8: Counterattack

Clara found a waiter, gave him a tip, and whispered a few words. Soon, the waiter came over with two new drinks to Daisy Stone’s side. Taking advantage of her back turned while she talked to the waiter, Clara swiftly switched the positions of the two identical cocktails. No matter what Daisy was planning, her comeuppance would arrive sooner or later. After the swap, Clara intentionally made some noise as she sat back down. Seeing her return, Daisy quickly dismissed the waiter. Clara pretended to be very interested and asked, "Daisy, that waiter..." Daisy explained, "Oh, a guest sent over drinks, and I refused them. It’s better to drink what we ordered ourselves. Come on, Clara, talk to me. I’ve been feeling quite uneasy lately." Clara asked with a smile, "Daisy, what happened?" As they had discussed earlier, Daisy said, "You know I have feelings for Samuel Grant’s brother, Henry Foster, and I haven’t been able to move on. But recently, I unexpectedly met Samuel’s uncle, William Foster." Clara squinted her eyes, feigning a bit of surprise, "And then?" Daisy continued, "He looks a lot like Henry, and even his behavior is very similar. I find myself becoming fond of him. Although I know it’s not right, since he’s my brother’s uncle-in-law, I can’t control it. Henry probably won’t ever wake up, and life has been so hard for me. Clara, do you think I should take this step? Maybe it will stop my suffering in the future?" Hearing this, Clara felt disdain in her heart. Obviously, Samuel is adept at playing such psychological tactics. If this were in a past life, even if she had some involvement with William, a friend’s words like this would surely affect her confidence in the relationship, possibly even cutting off ties. Instead, she raised her glass and suggested, "Daisy, don’t ask me. How could a failure in love give you advice? Let’s not talk about relationships today. I just want to drown my sorrows with alcohol. Let’s drink to our heart’s content!" Daisy, observing what she believed to be hesitation, smiled and replied, "Alright, let’s forget our worries and have a great drink!" Clara tilted her head back to drink, discreetly using a napkin to covertly spit the drink back out. Her reborn body remained the same; she wasn’t sure if her alcohol tolerance had changed and had no desire to take that risk. Seeing Daisy take a few sips and then mimic her by reaching for a napkin to wipe her mouth, Clara suddenly moved forward, gently brushing Daisy’s lips with her fingers, "Daisy, there’s some liquor stain here." The action startled Daisy, causing her to swallow the drink she held in hand directly. From afar, Daniel Wright was stealthily monitoring, "..." Boss Foster, perhaps you need to be wary of this lady. About fifteen minutes later, Daisy was sprawled on the sofa behind her. Without expression, Clara took her phone, unlocked it, and saw an address she’d posted in a peculiar online forum, stating that in about half an hour, a drunk woman would appear, described in the same attire she wore. Clara’s eyes suddenly grew intense. The term "corpse picking" refers to some ill-intentioned individuals who take advantage of a drunken girl outside a nightclub, abducting them. That’s what is referred to as "corpse picking." Daisy was truly vicious, intending to intoxicate her and have an unfamiliar man take her away and violate her. Was this Samuel’s idea, or did Daisy cook it up herself? Clara didn’t want to know the details, nor did she want to delve into it. Regardless, she would return their actions in kind. Clara raised an eyebrow, supporting Daisy into the washroom, where she first styled her to look exactly like herself, then dressed her in her clothes. Then, she took her outside. Not knowing if Daisy was truly drunk, Clara deliberately whispered in her ear, "Daisy, how did you get drunk before me? Wait here briefly; I’ll get you some sobering-up medication and call for a designated driver." After saying this, Clara genuinely went to a small supermarket to buy sobering-up pills, but all the while kept her gaze on Daisy’s direction. Soon after, Clara saw two men, staggering as they held liquor bottles, who seemed heavily intoxicated, approach Daisy and lift her onto a car. If those two guys harmed the pregnant Daisy, the life inside her wouldn’t survive. Fire surged in her thoughts; she truly hated Samuel and Daisy, but at this moment— "Under no circumstances should one stoop to their level of beastliness." Clara muttered softly, boarding a taxi, "Driver, please follow that black sedan ahead." The taxi didn’t follow for long before stopping at a relatively secluded small park. This kind of long-deserted park usually lacked visitors; those two men probably dragged Daisy into the woods inside. After contemplating for a moment, Clara devised a rough plan. She then turned and ran to the opposite street, appearing panicked as she dialed the emergency call line and specifically contacted the local help hotline. After hanging up, she anxiously questioned passersby on the road— "Has anyone seen two men taking a woman by here?" "Excuse me, did you see two people pass through here with a lady?" "Please, everyone, help me find my Daisy! She was taken into a car by strangers near the bar, and I traced them all the way here. I’m really worried about her safety!" "Daisy! Where are you?". The beautiful woman was so anxious that tears flowed, prompting the people around her to take action. A passerby quickly stepped forward to lead, "Everyone, help look around. If she’s nearby, check that hotel, that street corner, and over in this park!" A group of warm-hearted citizens immediately organized and continuously consoled Clara. Clara was overwhelmed, fragile to the point of breaking, repeatedly mentioning how Daisy got taken by the two men while she went to buy sobering-up medicine after Daisy got drunk. "Boohoo, if anything happens to Daisy, I’ll be guilty forever." "It’s not your fault; don’t blame yourself so much." The police quickly arrived at the scene. Making such a big scene, those two crooks could hardly have heard nothing. Seeing the police car’s lights in the distance, the duo was visibly frightened. "Oh my God! How did the police get involved?" "Bro, what now?" "What now? Run!" The two immediately abandoned Daisy and fled. At this time, Samuel estimated that Clara had likely fallen into the trap and was planning to head to the bar to check the situation.
