This personality sometimes troubles her because she understands that once her soft heart is taken advantage of, she might become passive.
But whenever she sees William Foster’s eyes, seemingly filled with countless grievances, Clara Bennett can’t help but want to reach out and show him a little care.
Helplessly, Clara moved a chair next to him to sit down and asked the waiter to arrange all the food together.
This way, the distance between the two was significantly reduced, and an indescribably subtle atmosphere seemed to permeate the air.
Despite her slight reluctance, she hoped to alleviate the awkward situation through this means.
The waiter was evidently a bit puzzled.
In such settings, couples usually sit separately to enjoy personal space, so Clara’s actions seemed somewhat unusual to him, but he didn’t question it further.
Clara held William’s hand and explained with a smile, "Sorry, I like to be closer to my husband; we’re almost inseparable."
She said this so naturally, as if they were indeed a couple with a stable relationship.
William’s palm was warm and strong, invoking a sense of dependency.
Upon hearing this, the waiter immediately smiled amiably and then turned to leave.
Clearly, the waiter believed the young couple’s words and sent them a gaze full of blessings.
On such a romantic night, seeing a loving couple truly was a delightful thing.
William, on one side, stifled a laugh.
In truth, he really wanted to burst out laughing, but out of politeness, he restrained himself.
Clara’s demeanor surprised and delighted him, realizing she wasn’t just as cold as she appeared but also filled with tenderness and consideration.
As for whether other men have met someone who softens their heart this year, William wasn’t sure.
But he knew he had indeed encountered a soft-hearted little person.
This "little one" not only had a strong heart but was also able to lower her guard for others, showing the softest side of herself, which made William both gratified and heartbroken.
Clara looked at him, "What are you laughing about? Isn’t it all because of you that this happened, and you still have the nerve to laugh at me?"
Her eyes were filled with both confusion and a slight annoyance, after all, she had made such a decision to resolve the tense situation, not expecting it to bring a smile to the other’s face.
William said, "I’m not laughing at you, I just think you really have a knack for acting, it was very convincing."
Hearing this, Clara’s heart calmed down a bit, but she still felt somewhat played with, her emotions mixed.
Clara couldn’t be bothered to retort, still patiently arranging his plate, and picked up the fork saying, "Come on, William Foster little baby, open your mouth and eat."
At this moment, her voice became unusually gentle, as if a mother feeding an ignorant child.
Despite her verbal complaints, from the slight upturn of her lips, it was clear that this was not something she minded at all.
William originally thought he’d be satisfied with a bit of coaxing from Clara, but at this moment, he felt somewhat embarrassed.
Being treated like a child made him feel embarrassed, his Adam’s apple bobbing, he said, "How about I handle it myself?"
Trying to free himself from the awkwardness.
Clara mischievously laughed: "How can that be?"
A playful glimmer flashed in her eyes, as if waiting for William to express himself further.
In truth, she found it somewhat enjoyable too, perhaps this was a rare little pleasure between the two of them.
William had no choice but to plead, "Clara, I know I was wrong, alright?"
Faced with such a stubborn yet adorable girl, William ultimately could only lower his proud head, ending the little farce with an admission of guilt.
Clara couldn’t help but laugh out loud: "Knowing you’re wrong doesn’t help, hurry up and eat."
William, helpless, had no choice but to obediently take the food and start chewing slowly.
Clara snorted, with a dominant air, saying: "At such an age, the first time serving someone, and you’re not even grateful!"
This statement piqued William’s curiosity.
Even though he knew it wasn’t suitable to bring up Samuel Grant in this atmosphere, he couldn’t help but ask, "So you never took care of Samuel Grant like this before?"
Clara’s words carried subtle meaning: "William Foster, you’re really a little master of ruining the mood."
William unconsciously touched his fingertips, with a hint of apology said, "Sorry, darling, I was just a bit curious. Did you really never help him out when he needed care after drinking?"
Clara wrinkled her nose, with a look of disdain: "I hate the smell of alcohol the most, it makes me want to vomit, how could I ever take care of him?"
In fact, Clara had indeed never taken care of Samuel after a hangover.
Their relationship had undergone significant changes.
Initially, Clara tried to be a good wife, but ultimately, due to their personality differences, it wasn’t meant to be.
Especially after going through so many twists and animosities, all that remained between them was deep-seated hatred.
At first, Clara even thought that matter happened while drunk...
William seemed very satisfied, continuing to eat the food Clara fed him in large bites.
Clara appeared to notice something: "You seem particularly disdainful of Samuel Grant, do you really dislike him that much?"
William replied firmly, "I really dislike him a lot."
William said: "I really dislike him a lot, it wells up from the bottom of my heart."
Clara curiously asked, "Did you two have some grudge? Or is there some misunderstanding?"
"No, never even met him before."
William’s smile slightly cooled, "I just can’t stand the thought of someone as good as you being in a relationship with him, it leaves me uncomfortable. That man has no redeeming qualities, not deserving someone like you."
Clara paused, a hint of sweetness welling up inside her, she lowered her head to hide a smile, softly saying, "It’s quite a coincidence, I feel like he didn’t deserve my efforts either."
The two chatted while eating, finding a lot of common ground.
After finishing their meal, William considerately asked her, "Are you done eating?"
Clara nodded, saying, "We can leave."
Just then, an unexpected event occurred.
A loud "bang" came from the kitchen, followed by a billowing cloud of smoke pouring out.
The restaurant was immediately filled with smoke and the smell of something burning.
A person staggered out, with small flames on his clothes, he frantically beat at the flames and screamed in terror, "The kitchen exploded! Everyone run! It’s not safe here!"
After yelling, the person stumbled out of the restaurant.
Seeing the rapidly spreading smoke, Clara realized the urgency of the situation, quickly pouring the lemon water on the table onto a napkin to wet it, pressing it against William’s face, speaking urgently, "Hold your breath! Don’t inhale the toxic smoke!"
She hastily grabbed a damp cloth for herself, covering her mouth and nose, quickly pushing William to run outside.
