Then, with a meaningful smile on her lips, Nell Sue deliberately lowered her volume, almost whispering into Yvonne Young’s ear, "You know, right? Lily Night seems to have always been one of Grant’s die-hard fans. According to reliable sources, she once even went out of her way to buy Grant’s favorite custom coffee as a gift for him. And you probably didn’t notice, tonight at the party, George Taylor treated her with such gentle friendliness—it was much better than how he treated any of us."
Upon hearing this, Yvonne Young let out a slight but dismissive snort through her nose, her tone icy cold.
"Anyone who’s been around this industry long enough knows that when facing someone with high status and power, who wouldn’t take the chance to call them their idol? But in the end, it’s all just a show—it’s not to be taken seriously."
Seeing this, Nell Sue quickly put on an embarrassed look, shaking her head awkwardly, while continuing to exaggerate with self-deprecating words to divert the attention.
"Honestly, I also tried to express my admiration for George Taylor once, and got a completely different response in return; it made me look like a clown in the end. Now it seems that some people are simply favored by fate, while others, no matter how hard they try, can only remain unknown."
However, as clever as Yvonne Young was, she wouldn’t easily change her opinion of a male friend just because of a past collaboration, especially when the person was already at the pinnacle of their career.
On the contrary, in her mind, any relationship that fell outside the realm of real life was not worth mentioning.
After all, no matter how dazzling a person appears, or how impressive their achievements are, if there is no actual connection or common language between them, everything is ultimately just an illusion, like a mirage.
On the contrary, what she despised more were those women who used every trick to curry favor with men—it was utterly disgraceful to female artists!
"Speaking of which..."
Nell Sue spoke again, her words like fuel to the fire, provoking anger and indignation, "Actually, Ethan Smith seems to also have a high regard for Lily Night. I remember when I tried to compete for the lead female role, I volunteered to waive my salary, only to be severely criticized for it. But later I found out that Lily Night said the same to Ethan Smith, and he praised her attitude highly, claiming I disrupted the industry rules. Doesn’t this strike you as odd? In principle, who wouldn’t want to play the lead role? This whole thing just seems so unfair to me."
At this, Yvonne Young couldn’t help but frown slightly.
Ethan Smith, a married man, showing favoritism towards Lily Night?
Could this woman truly be like a little temptress, always scheming and clinging to power?
Thinking of this, a mocking smile curled up at the corner of her mouth: "Tsk, she’s really good at playing the balancing act."
Originally, Yvonne Young had held certain expectations about playing the lead, but high popularity doesn’t equal a wide range of acting roles.
This time, the role meant to complement the popular actress ended up falling to her, which she didn’t mind too much.
But she didn’t expect, in the end, she turned out to be supporting a complete newcomer.
And this newcomer seemed to be someone whose resources and status came from cozying up to men, especially hard to accept since among her backers was the already married Ethan Smith!
Considering her own ex-boyfriend was once taken by a mistress, her anger flared even more intensely.
Elsewhere, after Clara Bennett and George Taylor ended their brief conversation, she turned and walked toward the dressing room.
Yvonne Young crossed her arms, frowned slightly at Nell Sue, and said seriously, "I have something to discuss with her, come to the dressing room later."
Upon hearing this, Nell Sue immediately showed a meaningful smile, her eyes flashing a mischievous glint, deliberately fanning the flames with a slightly provoking tone, and then happily nodded her head, agreeing eagerly.
She was secretly pleased because she liked to enjoy a good show with no concern for its consequences, as she had nothing to lose.
Clara Bennett appeared relatively calm, despite feeling somewhat troubled inside, she politely but firmly declined George Taylor’s invitation to lunch, as she had more important things to attend to; she planned to head out as soon as she removed her makeup.
The company she previously planned to establish was now beginning to take shape, and she had found an ideal candidate to handle the specific business operations, so once she finished her current tasks, she needed to meet with this key person promptly.
In fact, not just today, every day of hers was tightly scheduled, leaving no time for rest.
Just as she was focused on removing her makeup, the door suddenly opened, an urgent set of footsteps entered, interrupting her thoughts.
Clara Bennett looked up and saw Yvonne Young standing at the door with a face full of hostility. Despite the odd atmosphere, she maintained the appropriate decorum and casually greeted her.
Yvonne Young clearly didn’t plan to exchange pleasantries with Clara Bennett; she raised an eyebrow, looked at her coldly, and said directly, "No need for formalities, I know my status in this crew—just a small supporting role, unable to help you much."
Clara Bennett glanced at her, a hint of helplessness crossed her eyes, but she remained calm and responded in a gentle tone, "You are a senior, I understand the rules, please don’t harp on titles."
Upon hearing this, Yvonne Young couldn’t help but let out a sarcastic chuckle, her eyes revealing a trace of contempt and disdain: "In this industry, whoever has backing has the right to speak. Personally, I always say what I think, straightforwardly. So, Miss White, could you perhaps reveal what kind of background you have? Knowing the strength behind you would put my mind at ease and guide my behavior appropriately within this crew."
Sensing the hostile atmosphere from Yvonne, Clara Bennett internally sighed, instantly understanding her real motive—this was obviously an attempt to probe or even provoke, which left her speechless: Why confound one another, especially among women?
Regardless, since there had been no substantial conflict or past grievances between them, Clara Bennett saw no need for contention, and patiently explained, "Actually, I don’t have any formidable backing; I’m just a newcomer to the film industry. Securing the opportunity to play the lead in this show was purely based on my solid professional skills and outstanding audition performance, not through any backdoor or connections. If you don’t believe it, you can investigate the entire casting process, the truth will naturally reveal itself."
