She bit down hard on his shoulder, hoping to relieve some of the resentment in her heart.
William Foster let out a muffled grunt, looking at her somewhat aggrievedly: "My little nemesis, how dare you bite me?"
His gaze, besides surprise, also carried a trace of affection, giving the impression of his unconditional tolerance and love for her.
Clara Bennett, panting and blushing, responded, "Who told you to be so greedy! My phone has been ringing for ages, but you just kept on kissing endlessly."
Although her tone carried a hint of complaint, it was more of a mix between shyness and sweetness, a subtle emotion continuously surging in her heart.
William Foster’s lips curled into a playful smile: "Your taste is too sweet, it’s truly addictive. It’s like finding the other half of my life, unable to let go."
His words sounded like an apology but more like flirting, making the tense atmosphere even more complex.
"You’re still talking back?"
A sly glint flashed in Clara’s eyes as she deliberately twisted his arm, hoping it would make him realize his mistake.
William Foster drew a cold breath and hurriedly raised his hand to admit his mistake: "Alright, alright, it’s my fault, okay?"
Even though he verbally conceded, deep down, he hadn’t really softened.
After all, in his view, what just happened was so natural, how could there be any mistake?
The facts were obvious, he was a very self-disciplined person, and if it weren’t for the alluring beauty in his arms, how could he lose control of his emotions and actions?
But on second thought, his beautiful wife was dressed so exquisitely today, breathtakingly beautiful; it’s understandable, better to let it slide.
Clara grabbed the phone by her side and glanced at it, only to find that it was a call from her manager, Charlotte Harper.
She quickly pressed the callback button to contact her.
As expected, when the call connected, Charlotte did not mention the private affairs but went straight to the point: "Clara, tonight an investor has invited the crew members to a banquet, would you like to attend?"
Clara asked back, "What is the purpose of this dinner, exactly?"
Charlotte candidly replied, "I’m not quite sure about that, but this news came very suddenly. If you’re not interested in attending, I can politely decline the invitation for you. Actually, I’ve done some checking, and that person has some complex background issues, it’s probably best to maintain a distance."
Upon hearing this, Clara refused without hesitation: "Then I won’t attend."
After all, she had no interest whatsoever in unknown and potentially troublesome events.
Having decided to forgo this opportunity, Charlotte promptly agreed: "No problem, leave this matter to me."
After ending the call, William Foster’s gaze gradually grew serious as he watched Clara sorting out her thoughts.
Noticing the unusual change in her boyfriend’s expression, Clara asked curiously, "Did something happen? You seem to be in a heavy mood."
Worry was evident in William Foster’s eyes: "That call was from your manager, right? Could it be that you’ve attracted the attention of some ill-intentioned individuals?"
To comfort him, Clara tried to ease the tense atmosphere: "Don’t overthink it, it’s just a regular gathering invitation from an investor, nothing special. I’ve made it clear that I won’t be going, so you don’t need to worry too much."
However, these words did not manage to lift William Foster’s spirits.
How could it be so easy to set his mind completely at ease?
From their previous conversation, he vaguely sensed some hints about what kind of person the other party might be.
Moreover, with his girlfriend’s outstanding appearance and charisma, how could such beauty not invoke the covetous intentions of others?
Though a flash of murderous intent crossed his mind, William Foster restrained this emotion and remained calm in front of Clara.
He simply curled his lips into a small smile and said gently, "In the future, refuse such occasions altogether; we don’t need to get involved in those complicated matters."
Hearing this, Clara couldn’t help but chuckle softly and lightly retorted: "I can’t decline every time, can I? If I do that, people will definitely think I’m not sociable and hard to get along with."
There was a hint of playful helplessness in her words.
William Foster’s fingers gently caressed her face, his gaze soft yet resolute.
He said: "A truly beautiful person is a unique landscape, not needing to socialize to please others, which truly suits your status. This way, it can also avoid many unnecessary troubles and prevent those with ill intentions from acting brazenly, isn’t that a good thing?"
Every word of his was filled with care and affection.
Clara batted her eyes, her long and thick eyelashes unintentionally sweeping over William Foster’s slender fingers, giving him a slight ticklish sensation.
She smiled and asked, "Didn’t I say that I’m not good-looking?"
William Foster raised an eyebrow, a warm smile appearing on his face: "I may be blind, but I’m not an idiot. My Clara landed a lead role in her first acting opportunity; if you say you’re ugly, who would believe that?"
His tone was gentle and full of confidence.
Clara pursed her lips into a smile and said somewhat teasingly, "Seems like you do have a way with words!"
Following that, William Foster held her hand, and his expression turned serious.
"Clara, with my physical condition, I can’t directly protect you. So please, take good care of yourself when you’re outside, okay? If anything happens to you, my heart would hurt unbearably."
Every word carried his deep concern.
Seeing how much he cared about her safety, Clara raised an eyebrow with reassurance and said, "Don’t worry, you should know how capable I am. Who can easily take advantage of me?"
Her words were full of confidence in her own abilities.
Nonetheless, William Foster continued to shake his head in worry.
"I’m just afraid this industry is too complex and ever-changing; many things are unpredictable. How about this, I could assign someone to be your private bodyguard, what do you think?"
This suggestion was clearly made after careful consideration.
Unexpectedly, Clara immediately frowned, seemingly dissatisfied with the idea.
"No way, I don’t like that approach."
She stated her stance clearly.
In response, William Foster didn’t give up but proposed a new solution, "Then how about another way? Finding a smart and sharp assistant to accompany you could work. After all, you need support while working outside."
Hoping to persuade the stubborn girl in front of him this time.
