Lu Lin saw the incoming call display on Zhou Yuwen’s phone and merely glanced at it before consciously turning away to tidy up the snacks she had just bought.
Zhou Yuwen answered the phone.
"Zhou Yuwen, what were you doing last night?"
Zheng Yanyan immediately asked.
Zhou Yuwen still avoided Lu Lin for a moment, saying he had been busy with some things and had gone to sleep early.
"What’s so busy that you can’t even send me a message back?"
Zheng Yanyan had waited for Zhou Yuwen to return her message until one in the morning, and usually, having Lu Lin to chat with, she wouldn’t have been so angry, but yesterday it seemed as if Zhou Yuwen and Lu Lin had made plans just the same, totally ignoring her.
This made Zheng Yanyan somewhat annoyed.
"Zhou Yuwen, do you even consider me your girlfriend? What’s so important that it takes precedence over replying to your girlfriend’s messages?" Zheng Yanyan was full of grievances.
But Zhou Yuwen just said, "Didn’t you not look for me the day before too?"
"I..." Zheng Yanyan was momentarily stumped by the question; she hadn’t looked for Zhou Yuwen the day before because she had been holding back, hoping that Zhou Yuwen would take the initiative to find her, only to find that it had become Zhou Yuwen’s excuse instead.
Zhou Yuwen then added, now you know how uncomfortable I felt when you didn’t look for me, right?
With that one sentence, the originally upset Zheng Yanyan suddenly lost her temper.
"Alright, my fault," Zhou Yuwen said, and inside Zheng Yanyan felt somewhat happy, thinking since she hadn’t looked for Zhou Yuwen the day before, Zhou Yuwen might have felt anxious just like her. His ignoring her last night was merely to spite her.
And that was forgivable.
Of course, Zheng Yanyan couldn’t possibly say that she had deliberately left Zhou Yuwen hanging the day before, that would be too demeaning.
All she could say was that she got too caught up chatting and having fun with Lu Lin the day before and forgot to chat with Zhou Yuwen.
"Oh, so am I still your boyfriend, or have you forgotten about me?" Zhou Yuwen said with a dissatisfied tone.
"Alright alright, I was wrong, please don’t be mad, hubby!" Zheng Yanyan immediately turned on her sweet charm, soothing Zhou Yuwen.
"Oh okay, how many days will you be gone, hubby?" Zheng Yanyan asked hurriedly.
"About four days."
"Doesn’t that mean school will have already started?"
"Yeah, I’m taking two days off."
Having a chat with Zheng Yanyan could indeed be indefinite, and Lu Lin had already packed up and was ready to leave, not even seeming to intend to say goodbye to Zhou Yuwen.
It was Zhou Yuwen who took the initiative and caught hold of her.
"I won’t keep you then, I’m hanging up."
Zheng Yanyan on the other end still wanted to talk about something, but before she could start, Zhou Yuwen had already hung up the phone, looking at Lu Lin: "Where are you going?"
"I’m heading back to school," Lu Lin replied.
"Do you have something to do back at school?" Zhou Yuwen asked, checking the time.
Upon hearing this, Lu Lin chuckled: "It’s not like I have anything to do by staying here."
Zhou Yuwen, who had talked with Zheng Yanyan for nearly thirty minutes, during which Lu Lin hadn’t made a peep, felt a twinge of guilt toward Lu Lin.
Zhou Yuwen said, it’s still early now, let’s have lunch later and then I’ll drive you back.
"No need, I can find my way back to school; it’s not far," Lu Lin said with an air of nonchalance.
Zhou Yuwen asked, "Would you agree to stay and keep me company if I asked you to?"
Lu Lin, with an expressionless face, hummed: "Treat me to a big meal at noon, and I might consider it."
After saying this, she turned around as if she didn’t care, but couldn’t hold back a smile any longer at the corner of her mouth.
However, Zhou Yuwen did not let Lu Lin get her way for long. He reached out and grabbed her into his embrace, his head resting against her forehead and asked, "Did you really want me to say that?"
"Pfft!" Lu Lin couldn’t help laughing but still said, no.
