Magic Scrolls were currently the most important source of Gold Pucks for the Crimson Mage Tower, but production efficiency had long been restricted by the scarcity of magical materials. “All right. The Crimson Mage Tower is now under your management. I hope you can do even better than Vina.” Karu’s face lit up with excitement when he heard this. “I wouldn’t dare compare myself to Miss Vina, but Lord Li De, I won’t disappoint you.” “Good. You may go.” Just as Karu stepped out the door, an urgent voice called out from the hallway. “Kachar, Kachar! I heard the Crimson Mage Tower was attacked by an undead mage and a Bone Dragon?” Spark, clad in a white robe, stormed into the study. His disheveled, graying hair looked like it hadn’t been washed in three days. A strong stench of alcohol clung to him, and his eyes were still a little dazed. “Teacher, I’m fine.” Li De felt a touch of warmth in his heart when he sensed Spark’s concern. “The City Guard held off the Bone Dragon. That undead mage didn’t manage to breach the Crimson Mage Tower’s Magic Shield. Thanks to the magic array you built. It was so strong it even blocked the Bone Dragon’s breath.” Spark beamed with pride upon hearing that. A big smile spread across his face as he raised his head arrogantly. “This was a magic array personally set up by Master Spark himself. Now you understand its power, don’t you, Kachar brat?” He paused for a moment, a flicker of irritation passing through his eyes. “Hmph! Those damned undead creatures actually dared to invade Green City! If I hadn’t had a few too many glasses of that fine wine from the Storm Sea and missed the bastard’s presence, I would have pulled out its soul fire and used it to roast meat!” After speaking, he glanced around anxiously. “Where’s Isha?” Li De couldn’t help but shake his head with a bitter smile. This old man really was something else. No wonder he hadn’t sensed Spark’s aura yesterday. He’d assumed the guy had gone off exploring the Abyss Gate. Turns out he was just drunk at home, completely oblivious to the danger. “I sent Isha somewhere safe. She won’t be back for a few days. After all, the Crimson Mage Tower was attacked by a Bone Dragon, the City Lord’s Mansion was hit by unknown enemies, and even an Abyss Gate appeared outside Green City. Who knows if there’ll be more threats to come.” Whether such things would happen again, Li De couldn’t say, but in the short term, it seemed unlikely. Viscount Berna had offended a transcendent being, and the Dark Pact wouldn’t be having a good time for a while. Spark frowned slightly at Li De’s explanation. Yesterday’s events had indeed been far too bizarre; an Abyss Gate, a Bone Dragon, and an assault on the City Lord’s Mansion. Clearly, there had to be a puppet master pulling the strings behind it all. “Fine then. Are you sure where Isha’s staying is safe?” Li De nodded firmly. “There’s no safer place.” The secluded Dawn City was so remote that even wild dogs were scarce in its surroundings. Other than a few wild magical beasts, no one would casually venture hundreds of kilometers into the Far Mountain Range. There wasn’t much in the Far Mountain Range to attract adventurers. Not only were magical beasts rare, but the terrain was also treacherous and hard to traverse. Without profit as motivation, no one would go there on a whim. Spark nodded in relief. That old man cherished Isha deeply. If Li De hadn’t accepted her as a disciple first, Spark would’ve fought to take her in himself. Even so, Spark already considered the golden-blooded girl to be his successor. Smart, well-behaved, sensible, and with absurdly strong magical talent, everything about her satisfied this Level 19 Grand Mage immensely. Suddenly, as if remembering something, Spark asked hesitantly, “About those ancient alchemical magic arrays...” “I’ll allocate fifty thousand Gold Pucks per month for building arrays. I want them finished as soon as possible,” Li De said generously. Spark’s tipsy gaze instantly lit up. He stepped forward and slapped Li De’s shoulder hard. “Hahaha! Kachar brat, this is the smartest decision you’ve made in your entire life!” The heavy smell of alcohol made Li De frown. “Teacher, go get some rest first.” “Right! My wine. No, my magic research still isn’t done,” Spark smacked his forehead and turned around gleefully, walking off without even glancing back. Watching the eccentric old man hurry off, Li De could only smile wryly. That free-spirited geezer really did things his own way. He stood up and walked to the transparent glass window, gazing down at the busy mage apprentices bustling about below. His eyes revealed a hint of satisfaction. The Dark Pact situation was resolved. He could finally focus on development again. Suddenly, a thought crossed his mind, and a hint of contemplation appeared in his eyes. “The Crimson Mage Tower is lacking a high-level combatant as deterrence. What if I station Betty here...” Though Spark served as the tower’s powerful backbone, no noble in Green City dared provoke a man of such unfathomable strength. But he was still Li De’s teacher, and there were many things that couldn’t be asked of him. What, was he supposed to order Spark to kill someone one day? He’d have better luck eating dirt, there was no way that unkempt, prideful old man would care. If a top-tier fighter under Li De’s full command were stationed at the Crimson Mage Tower, it would bring nothing but benefits. It would also make handling certain matters behind the scenes much easier. Besides, Betty wasn’t a vampire, so there was no risk of being discovered by Spark or any other powerful professionals. One key reason Li De never deployed vampires to the Crimson Mage Tower was that ordinary bloodline descendants lacked his unique ability to conceal their vampiric aura. It might work short term, but over time it would surely raise suspicion. Most importantly, he didn’t want Isha to remain in Dawn City forever. Learning magic from Spark would undoubtedly be far better than from Emi or any other vampire. Having Betty return would also help protect Isha, killing two birds with one stone. With his thoughts clear, Li De summoned Karu again and instructed him to send someone to bring Vina back. In the meantime, Karu would continue to manage the Crimson Mage Tower. After handling these matters, Li De returned alone to Dawn City. Though the war was over, the aftermath still had to be taken care of. He still had to hold a funeral for the heroes who had fallen in battle.
