Chapter 163: Abyssal Demons

Words : 1408 Updated : Sep 29th, 2025
Li De’s hair stood on end as he suppressed the urge to transform into his vampire form and abruptly turned his head. "Kachar, you brat, finally decided to come back?!" Just as he turned, a voice from far away caused the murderous intent lurking in the shadows to instantly vanish. At the street corner thirty blades away, a figure cloaked in a massive black robe turned and disappeared into the corner, vanishing from Li De’s sight. In that brief moment when Li De turned, the hood covering the figure's face revealed a pair of narrow, chilling eyes—emerald green orbs filled with icy bloodlust and an indescribable savagery. Even that fleeting glimpse left a deep impression on Li De’s mind. A foreign race?!! That was definitely not human! Those slender, emerald-green eyes were too horrifying to belong to any human! They resembled those of a cold-blooded hunter hiding in the shadows, ready to strike lethally at any moment. Demon? Undead? Devil? Countless questions swirled in his mind. Whatever it was, it was undoubtedly a very powerful and malevolent creature capable of such chilling murderous intent. "Kachar, didn’t you hear me calling you?" Spark, clad in a white mage’s robe, walked over and grew irritated seeing Li De still lost in thought. "Teacher~" Isha, who had been following Spark, immediately ran up to Li De upon seeing him. Her ruby-red eyes curved slightly, resembling crescent moons. She took the initiative to hold Li De’s hand, looking up at him with genuine joy and delight shining in her eyes. It was only then that Li De snapped out of his daze. He frowned and glanced several times at the street corner where the mysterious figure had disappeared. Those elongated eyes were too terrifying. Like a predator lurking in the shadows—deadly and brutal. Spark also noticed something was off with Li De. His disciple wasn’t usually this absent-minded. Following his gaze toward the street corner, Spark suddenly furrowed his brows. A faint, peculiar aura made him sneer in disgust. "Damn bastards, these rats from the abyss dare show themselves on the streets during the day." The Abyss? Li De keenly caught that word. The Bottomless Abyss had always been the dwelling place of demons—chaotic, evil, bloodthirsty, and terrifying. Every negative adjective could describe this wicked land. Could an abyssal demon really appear in Green City? Wasn’t that a bit excessive? The Abyss wasn’t directly connected to the Glory Main Plane. To enter the main plane from the abyss required tearing open a spatial rift. The prerequisite for tearing space was possessing power beyond the Transcendent level. Had he just been targeted by someone above the Transcendent level? But if it was Transcendent, it didn’t make sense since the figure clearly left because of Spark’s presence. Doubt flashed deeply in Li De’s eyes. Why had these evil beings appeared near the Crimson Mage Tower? What was their purpose? Were they here for him or someone else? But with just a pair of chilling eyes and nearly zero information, he couldn’t make further judgments. Spark mistakenly assumed Li De was still puzzled about why a demon would appear in Green City and voluntarily began explaining. "Although Lord Locke, a Transcendent being, guards Green City, those damn rats always find loopholes." His eyes showed clear irritation. Spark had lived in Green City for decades; it was his home. Thus, he harbored extreme dislike for the cruel and bloodthirsty lifeforms of the abyss. However, abyssal demons skilled in spatial magic often found ways to evade the detection of strong beings and slip into the Glory Main Plane. Green City, the largest city in the south with a population of over a million, was too attractive to these evil creatures, making them impossible to completely eradicate. "Was that one Transcendent?" Li De’s expression grew serious. Spark snorted disdainfully. "Transcendent? No, due to the restrictions of the main plane’s rules, the appearance of Transcendent power would cause significant spatial fluctuations. Once Transcendent power appears, it is easily detected by beings of the same level. At that point, those evil lives become prey for us humans. Therefore, few Transcendents from the abyss or other evil planes ever descend. But Level 15 Archdemons frequently appear." Spark sniffed again, catching the almost imperceptible trace of that fading aura. "It should be a Level 15 Archdemon. Though I can’t confirm its race, that evil aura unmistakably identifies it." Not Transcendent, phew. Li De quietly exhaled in relief. The weight of the term "Transcendent" was immense. With a population of over a million, Green City only had one Transcendent being. If that hostile demon truly were Transcendent, he would have to consider much more. Fortunately, though Level 15 was strong, he wasn’t some timid rabbit. A cold glint flashed in his eyes. Only through confrontation would they know who was sharper. Level 15? So what? Has my blade dulled?! "Teacher, aren’t you going after it?" After learning the approximate strength of the opponent, Li De immediately relaxed. He reached out to ruffle Isha’s little head, teasing lightly. "If you manage to hunt down a Level 15 demon, the name ‘Demon Hunter Spark’ will surely spread throughout Green City by tomorrow, and countless maidens will praise your bravery~" Spark seemed tempted for a moment but quickly sneered, "Demons are beings adept at spatial magic. Even the most stupid and cumbersome magma demons know one or two spatial spells. That rat has long fled." After saying that, he shot him a displeased glare. "Damn brat, why were you gone so long? I’ve had to handle all sorts of troubles for the Crimson Mage Tower every day." During this time, Spark had faced considerable pressure due to the mass sale of magic scrolls by the Crimson Mage Tower. In fact, if he hadn’t taken full credit for the rapid production of magic scrolls, the Crimson Mage Tower would likely have already attracted the covetous eyes of the great nobles. Only the intimidating power of a Level 19 Grand Mage was sufficient. Otherwise, with Li De gone for so long, the state of the Crimson Mage Tower now would be uncertain. Li De wasn’t a timid rabbit either. He naturally understood the intricacies involved. Never overestimate the greed and ugliness of the nobility—weakness was the greatest sin. A hint of gratitude appeared in his eyes as he thanked Spark, then spoke gravely. "The rebuilt Kachar Town encountered a group of the beastmen’s wyverns, numbering over two thousand." Spark frowned. He was well aware of Li De’s efforts to rebuild his family town, which began during the last Months of Deep Winter. Even the upper nobility of Green City knew about it, so no one questioned his prolonged absence. "And your town??" Li De shook his head. "A month’s worth of effort during the Months of Deep Winter... all destroyed." The excuse of rebuilding the town couldn’t be used for long. Although the borderlands were chaotic, once the beastmen retreated and humans regained control of the area, it would be hard to hide if someone investigated. Moreover, as Dawn City continued to grow stronger, a large portion of supplies could gradually become self-sufficient. Large-scale acquisitions like before would decrease, so this excuse could exit the stage of history. As expected, Spark shook his head. "I never thought rebuilding your town was a good idea, but it’s no big deal. As long as the Crimson Mage Tower stands, you’ll achieve it one day." He didn’t delve deeper. In fact, examples of nobles like Li De attempting to rebuild their family towns only to have them destroyed weren’t rare in Green City. Some nobles had even tried rebuilding four or five times without success. Land was the most crucial productive resource, the foundation upon which lesser nobles relied for survival. Their dependence on land was even greater than that of commoners. Li De’s mindset didn’t surprise him at all. Isha looked up. Due to her innate talent, the girl keenly sensed that her teacher hadn’t told the truth. Seeing Isha’s questioning gaze, Li De subtly winked. Instantly understanding Li De’s meaning, Isha pursed her lips and smiled. Teacher was indeed deceiving Grandpa Spark. But Isha wouldn’t say anything. Her ruby-like eyes held a hint of apology as she glanced at Spark. Sorry, Grandpa Spark~ But, teacher is the most important. Holding Li De’s hand, she gently tightened her grip. A satisfied smile rose on her delicate face.
