The most severe aftereffect of the assault in the alley was an injured ankle, and Su Ziceng had no choice but to lie in the dormitory.
During the day, after Yan Wuxu finished classes, he would buy her some food. Other than eating, there was only sleeping; too much idle time was not good either, especially for someone like Su Ziceng who had been dead and come back to life, facing an uncertain future.
Having slept a lot during the day, at night she could only keep her eyes open, staring at the ceiling, thinking about this recent thug attack. After organizing her thoughts about the incident, she realized many aspects were different from before.
When she used money to send Deng Jiani away years ago, she didn’t anticipate that she was a scheming person. In the middle of the night, Su Ziceng suddenly sat up and ended up pulling her injured right foot, wincing and sucking in the pain with a "hiss hiss".
If money couldn’t get rid of her, then what should she do? Resort to violence, or seek help from her father? Various ideas circled in Su Ziceng’s mind and were continuously dismissed. The path ahead grew more and more ambiguous; it had been half a year since Su Ziceng was reborn after her death and she had thought she could avoid many problems by settling into Kelly Women’s College, only to find that the incidents that followed were even more chaotic and worse than before.
"At twenty-five, if everything that Yu Hua’s God Stick said is true..." Su Ziceng thought drowsily and fell asleep.
On the other hand, Chang Chi also found it strange, the impulsive Su Ziceng had suddenly gone silent, and Deng Jiani was still fluttering around Hang Yishao like a butterfly.
But some people started showing some odd signs, and the first to notice something was wrong was Deng Jiani.
In the past few days, with Fei Qing’s "enthusiastic" help, Deng Jiani and Hang Yishao’s "cohabitation little house" had been found just outside Daoquan University, in an apartment for faculty members. Daoquan University’s faculty welfare is very good, providing each formally contracted teacher with an additional newly-built one-bedroom apartment. Fei Qing somehow got wind of it and rented it from a teacher.
"Don’t worry, it’s a new house built earlier this year, no one has lived in it, completely new furnishings, and when you two move in, I’ll gift you a set of imported Italian bathroom fixtures, you can do whatever you like in there," Fei Qing spoke very frankly, Deng Jiani gave him a sideways glance.
For Hang Yishao, initially, Deng Jiani also held an attitude of just messing around, considering him a scion from rich lineage. Deng Jiani was not just a pretty vase as others would imagine. In her first year of high school, as she was pretty, a local magnate took interest in her and she unwillingly followed that magnate for three years.
She finally seized the opportunity during the gap when she started university, escaping the narrow confines of her hometown. In Mo City, the magnate’s influence couldn’t reach that far, and she managed to secure her "temporary" freedom.
After entering Daoquan University, in order to thrive locally and make her four years of university life "valuable," she shifted her attention to Jinya, a local thug known as a bad element. Hang Yishao was an unexpected gain; had it not been for that night when she learned Hang Yishao was beginning to engage with family affairs and exhibited extraordinary insight in his words and deeds, she wouldn’t have considered making a life with him.
While Deng Jiani had seen only a bit of the Hang family’s wealth, Hang Yishao’s appearance and future prospects were dazzling enough to catch her eye; she definitely wanted to hold on to this man. Thinking of this, Deng Jiani stealthily glanced at Hang Yishao, noticing that although he was listening to Fei Qing, his expression seemed somewhat distant.
The three of them went to the same teahouse where Su Ziceng had met someone the other day. The steaming milk tea made Hang Yishao’s eyes somewhat hazy.
"Jia Ni, you go check first, see if anything else is needed. You can use this card to pay," Hang Yishao finally spoke, not with sweet nothings, but rather dismissively handing Deng Jiani a gold card.
"Why don’t you come with me!" Deng Jiani used her usual tricks, speaking coquettishly, "I haven’t seen you for several days."
"Isn’t there an equestrian class together this afternoon," Hang Yishao waved his hand, indicating for her to go quickly.
Reluctantly, Deng Jiani took the gold card and walked away.
"What, you’re tired of Deng Jiani too, Yishao, your taste is getting more and more particular," Fei Qing dropped the frivolous tone; this was a sign Hang Yishao was about to break up, Deng Jiani didn’t understand, but he saw through it.
