Horses, always faster than humans on foot, clopped by; Su Ziceng had to quickly get out of the way, lest she be trampled underfoot.
Deng Jiani glanced at Su Ziceng with the corner of her eye and said coquettishly, "Yishao, help me down! I didn’t sleep well last night; my back and waist are sore." Her languid, coquettish tone sent blushes to the faces of the men around her.
Just having been frightened by a horse, the look on Su Ziceng’s face was awful. This bitch—her meaning was clear as day; even an idiot could understand. With her mind in turmoil, Su Ziceng stood woodenly off to the side, glaring at Deng Jiani’s soft and boneless hand, wishing she could chop it off.
Hang Yishao felt slightly embarrassed, looking at the blushing face of Deng Jiani and then at the stiff Su Ziceng, caught between a rock and a hard place.
"You'd better get down yourself, Ms. Liao Chenchen," Su Ziceng almost ground her teeth as she forced these few words out through her throat.
Deng Jiani retracted her hand immediately; there was endless affection in her eyes, which soon turned into alarm. However, she quickly covered up her panic, twisted her waist, and jumped off the horse.
"Ziceng, this?" Yan Wuxu nudged her, gesturing to the few pieces of tiramisu in her hand, which, after the collision, were smashed and stuck to the transparent plastic bag.
"Teacher Pei Luo," Su Ziceng mimicked Deng Jiani’s coquettish tone, "your favorite Tiramisu." She forcefully tossed the pieces of cake all into Pei Luo’s hands and then stormed off angrily.
Pei Luo, who was dragged into this without reason, adjusted his glasses with a helpless gesture. The cake in his hand had lost its appeal, but still, it was the first cake Su Ziceng had made, and he chuckled, feeling a creaminess already building in his mouth. Hang Yishao just glared at Pei Luo, then spoke to Fei Qing, "Remember the favor you owe."
His rental plans were quickly relayed to Chang Chi by Fei Qing. Chang Chi, who had been observing coldly from the sidelines, took another long look at Deng Jiani. This woman didn’t seem simple, and if not taken care of soon, she might become a problem later.
"Jia Ni, there’s a call for you." Just as Deng Jiani returned to her dorm, she heard her roommate call out to her.
"Su," Deng Jiani twirled the phone cable, unsurprised to hear the female voice on the line, "One o'clock in the afternoon, okay." She casually hung up the phone, thought for a moment, then dialed another number.
"I won’t be attending afternoon classes," Deng Jiani told her roommate, then looked at her makeup in the mirror; it was just perfect, making her face stand out even more. Su Ziceng, that mindless rich girl, still thinks she can bully her way over me? When I was playing with men, you were still at home playing with dolls.
Su Ziceng, too, skipped afternoon class; she and Deng Jiani met at the cafe in Daoquan University, where the two needed to have a good talk.
"Ms. Su, you’re early." Deng Jiani arrived leisurely at two o’clock. Su Ziceng was already a bit impatient; did this woman really think Su Ziceng was pursuing her?
Deng Jiani yawned, ordered a milk tea, and sized up Su Ziceng. From Deng Jiani’s point of view, Su Ziceng’s eyes, single-lidded yet seeming double-lidded, were slightly raised.
Su Ziceng appeared not to be angered, yet seemed somewhat irritated, her clear eyes also staring back at her.
"Ms. Su, do you have something on your mind today?" Deng Jiani was initially frightened by the word "Liao Chenchen," a pseudonym she had always used; why had it popped out from Su Ziceng’s mouth?
"Name your price," Su Ziceng recalled the number she heard the first time she met Deng Jiani from those pretty red lips. She hadn’t planned to act so quickly, at least not until she had thoroughly investigated Deng Jiani’s background and devised a strategy, but given this morning’s incident, it seemed there was no more time to delay.
"Price? What price?" Deng Jiani raised her eyebrows and snorted, "Ms. Su thinks I’m the kind of woman who can be silenced with money? I..." She let out a cat-like whimper, her shoulders shuddering, and she slumped down in her seat, appearing from afar to be bullied by Su Ziceng.
"Stop playing the victim; everyone knows you’re a..." Disliking her charade, Su Ziceng reached out to pull her up.
