Xiaosuisui caught every whisper of Xie Wulang. She tilted her head in confusion. "What does Pretty Sister’s daddy mean?"
Xie Wulang spoke in broken sentences and in a low voice. Xie Pan’Er and the others didn’t have such sharp hearing, and for a moment, they didn’t understand what he had said.
"Did my father say something?" Xie Pan’Er became a bit nervous, worried about what to do if her father, in his current state, offended the Princess.
Just as she was worrying, she heard Xiaosuisui’s questioning voice. She quickly asked, "What did you hear?"
Xiaosuisui said, "Pretty Sister’s daddy said, ’Have I been rescued by Grand General Ji?’"
The little girl was young and didn’t realize that in this world, she wasn’t the only Princess. The young Emperor’s sister, the late Emperor’s eldest daughter, was also a Princess!
So she subconsciously assumed Xie Wulang was talking about her.
Xie Pan’Er’s brow twitched upon hearing this. The Princess her father was referring to was not the current Princess, but the Princess from over a decade ago—a topic that was strictly forbidden!
Fearing her drunken father would continue his reckless talk and invite disaster, she quickly tried to change the subject by prompting her father to pay his respects to Suisui.
Seeing Xie Wulang in his wheelchair, Xiaosuisui was reminded of her eldest maternal uncle. She recalled what her adoptive father, the Emperor, had said when her uncle had an audience with him.
"There’s no need for formalities. Pretty Sister’s daddy isn’t an outsider. From now on, when Pretty Sister’s parents see me, they are exempt from courtesies!"
Xie Pan’Er, her face filled with gratitude, quickly thanked Xiaosuisui on behalf of her parents.
Last night, a Nanny specializing in etiquette, sent from the Palace, had given both Xiaosuisui and Xie Pan’Er an intensive, last-minute lesson. The Nanny was handpicked by the young Emperor himself, and everyone called her Nanny Huang. Nanny Huang was a palace veteran, and her character, knowledge of Palace rules, and etiquette were all commendable.
She first explained to Xiaosuisui the status of a Princess, the hierarchy of the Royal Family, and the proper etiquette and conduct when dealing with servants. While instructing Xiaosuisui on these matters, Nanny Huang openly allowed Xie Pan’Er to observe and listen from the side. Only when Xiaosuisui grew tired did she have someone take her to rest.
Then, she gave Xie Pan’Er a crash course on Palace rules and etiquette that lasted through the night. With the Double Ninth Festival just a few days away, Nanny Huang wished she could make one day last as long as two.
Therefore, Xie Pan’Er’s demeanor towards Suisui today was different from their encounter on the street yesterday; she was meticulously observant of etiquette, daring not to be remiss in the slightest.
Xiaosuisui also remembered Nanny Huang’s teachings. Though still a bit muddled, she understood there was a difference between the grace she was entitled to and the grace one could bestow upon others. That was why, when Pretty Sister had her father pay respects to her, Xiaosuisui emulated her adoptive father, the Emperor, and bestowed this particular grace upon Pretty Sister.
Xie Pan’Er gratefully expressed her thanks on her father’s behalf. She then instructed her personal maid to attend to Suisui, while she wheeled Xie Wulang back to his room to sober up and freshen up.
Luo Family emerged from the room, trembling with apprehension. Upon seeing Suisui, Luo Family was about to kneel, but Xiaosuisui stopped her. Looking at Luo Family’s pale face and ashen lips, Xiaosuisui instantly sensed that something was seriously wrong with Luo Family’s health.
"Pretty Sister’s mommy, are you feeling unwell somewhere?"
"Princess," Yun Duo, Xiaosuisui’s maid, promptly interjected after she spoke, "the Third Young Miss’s father is the fifth-born in his family. You may address her mother as Fifth Madam Xie."
This highlighted the benefit of having personal maidservants in prominent households. Whenever their master made a mistake or encountered a difficulty, someone would immediately step forward to offer a reminder.
Xiaosuisui quickly nodded, corrected her form of address, and then asked, "Fifth Madam Xie, I gave you medicine for your injury yesterday! You shouldn’t be this weak, should you? Why do I get the feeling your injury is getting worse?"
