"You’re the one who’s blind! Your whole family is blind! My Xiaobai eats meat. If you don’t believe it, just watch!"
Xiaosuisui was annoyed by Ji Youlin’s words.
She puffed up her cheeks in anger and put Xiaobai down. "Xiaobai," she said, "eat and show Uncle Six how blind he is. You’ve always eaten meat."
"Heh! Child, why can’t you tell good from bad? Rabbits naturally eat plants. Their favorite food is carrots! Worms are for chickens, and chickens love earthworms. You’re feeding chicken food to a rabbit. Aren’t you getting things backward?"
Xiaosuisui was young and didn’t know what "getting things backward" meant, but she firmly believed that seeing is believing.
"Humph! I can’t be bothered arguing with you! My Xiaobai eats meat, and you’ll see for yourself!"
She held out the earthworm in her little hand to Xiaobai. "Xiaobai, eat!"
Xiaobai twitched his nose, tears welling at the corners of his eyes. He opened his mouth, ate the earthworm from her hand, and then scampered off.
The little girl was quite pleased with herself. She put her hands on her hips, tilted her head back, and said to the stunned Ji Youlin, "Well? Is my Xiaobai a plant-eater, then?"
Ji Youlin’s eyes widened in disbelief. He murmured to himself, A rabbit... it actually eats meat! How unbelievable!
"Good, so your eyes aren’t completely useless. You finally know Xiaobai eats meat!"
After saying this, she reached out, grabbed Ji Youlin, and pulled him down to squat in the corner.
Ji Youlin was completely baffled. What are we doing? he wondered. So I’m not blind, fine, but why has she dragged me over here to squat? He had to admit, though, this little girl was surprisingly strong. He hadn’t even reacted before she’d pulled him into a squat.
"We’re looking for worms! Those two earthworms weren’t enough; I’m afraid Xiaobai is still hungry!"
Ji Youlin was speechless. Is it too late to run? he thought.
Zhu Xiuxiu, her heart in her throat, quietly squatted down beside them. "Sweetheart, is your Aunt Three blind?"
Xiaosuisui looked at her, puzzled. "Nope, not blind! Aunt Three’s eyes are super bright! Whoever says Aunt Three is blind, *their* eyes are the ones that are blind!"
Zhu Xiuxiu was speechless.
Zhu Xiuxiu swallowed hard. Taking a deep breath, she thought for a long moment before finally saying, "Suisui, dear. Now that your Uncle Six isn’t blind anymore... is his whole family still blind?"
Xiaosuisui was very puzzled by this. Uncle Six’s whole family? Wouldn’t that include Grandma, First Uncle... and even me? Why would Aunt Three ask me such a thing?
"Of course not! Everyone in Uncle Six’s family has super bright eyes!"
Zhu Xiuxiu sighed in relief. She silently glanced at Ji Youlin—who was currently wide-eyed and searching for worms—and warned him, "You’re on your own, so watch what you say to Suisui. Don’t go looking for trouble!"
Ji Youlin gave Zhu Xiuxiu a baffled look. "Third Sister-in-law, I haven’t offended you, have I?"
Zhu Xiuxiu said earnestly, "Sixth Brother, offending me is a small thing. But if you bicker with Suisui, I’m afraid you’ll be done for sooner or later!"
Why is that? Ji Youlin wondered. Then, a thought struck him. Oh, I get it! Third Sister-in-law, you’re just kidding me!
Zhu Xiuxiu put on a stern expression to show him she absolutely wasn’t joking.
Suddenly, Ji Youlin had an epiphany.
"Oh! I understand now! Third Sister-in-law, do you mean that because Xiaosuisui has been made a Princess, her status is different? From now on, she’s royalty, so we can’t treat her like our own child anymore—we can’t just say whatever we want or scold her whenever we feel like it, right?"
The corners of Zhu Xiuxiu’s mouth twitched, but she managed not to say anything and just nodded silently. Well, if thinking this way helps Old Sixth control that mouth of his, then it’s a good thing, she thought.
Just as Zhu Xiuxiu was thinking this, Huo Xing’Er arrived.
"Sister-in-law, Brother Six, Seventh Brother has figured out the case. Do you want to go take a look?"
