In response to Grandma Ji’s question, Ji Youyuan shrugged helplessly, saying, "Blocking Suisui’s fortune would be as impossible as blocking the Celestial Dao. I’ve tried to block the Celestial Dao once, and I couldn’t do it either."
So, this important Ji Family meeting still ended without reaching any resolution.
Ji Youzhi, realizing the situation belatedly, interjected, "What do you all mean by Xiaosuisui’s mouth?"
Everyone in the Ji Family knew he was coming, so they hadn’t deliberately avoided him. Watching his delayed understanding, Grandma Ji sighed.
"It’s nothing. It’s just that we’re about to go to the capital. From now on, Suisui should be carefully raised and kept within the inner courtyards. No one should take her out alone anymore. It’s better for her to make fewer public appearances."
Ji Youzhi blinked at these words and involuntarily rubbed the back of his head.
"Mother! I’m a Divine Hunter! You were all discussing so intensely just now; it clearly wasn’t about what you just said!"
This is outrageous! It feels like my family is hiding something huge from me.
"That’s not it. Just remember not to take Xiaosuisui out alone from now on."
Grandma Ji waved her hand. "I’m tired. You all should go back now." Then she said to Zhu Xiuxiu, "If all else fails, try to guide Suisui towards speaking less. Her mouth is the problem. As long as she keeps it shut and doesn’t speak, presumably nothing bad will happen."
"Yes, Mother, I understand."
Zhu Xiuxiu acknowledged and promptly withdrew.
Grandma Ji looked at Wang Dongxue’s belly and said, "I’m going back to rest too. The rest of you can disperse. Don’t disturb Dongxue; let her rest well and nourish her pregnancy."
Everyone soon dispersed.
Ji Youzhi remained standing there, stunned. "Elder Brother, what exactly are you all hiding from me?"
Ji Youyuan tapped him with his fan. "It’s nothing much. Just don’t take Suisui out alone from now on, and also try to have her speak less. That’s all."
After saying this, Ji Youyuan began to usher him out. "You should go get some rest. We need to rest too; your eldest sister-in-law is pregnant, you know."
Ji Youzhi: "..."
Are they bullying me because I don’t have a wife?
「The Lantern Festival on the evening of the Mid-Autumn Festival.」
After everyone finished paying respects to Chang’e and had their reunion dinner, they prepared to go out and enjoy the lantern displays.
Grandma Ji said, "I’m too old and can’t handle the exertion, so I won’t go. Suisui can stay home with me."
Xiaosuisui, having never been out for such an event, had no idea what a lantern festival entailed, but if it meant going out to play, she wanted to go.
"Grandmother, I want to go!"
Grandma Ji coaxed her, "Suisui, be a good girl. Grandmother is tired and wants you to stay home and keep her company." She then pointed to Suisui’s uncles and their wives, saying, "Let’s us be good and stay home. We’ll let your uncles and their wives go out by themselves to have some fun and deepen their bond. That way, they can give you some little brothers and sisters to play with!"
Xiaosuisui thought about it. If everyone went out to play, Grandmother would be all alone at home, which would be so lonely. So, she nodded and said, "Okay then, Suisui won’t go out. I’ll stay home and keep Grandmother company."
Watching the departing figures of her Second Aunt and Third Aunt, Xiaosuisui felt like crying but managed to hold back her tears.
Watching from the side, Grandma Ji found it unbearable. Maybe I should let the little girl go out after all, she mused.
But then she remembered the issue with the girl’s speech. Until they found a solution for that, she truly didn’t know what to do.
As the figures of the others receded into the distance, Grandma Ji finally let out a sigh of relief.
Not feeling very happy, Xiaosuisui hugged Xiaobai and played by the wall in a corner. She had a maid light a lantern to illuminate the area as she searched for earthworms to feed Xiaobai.
Xiaobai shivered in her embrace.
At the lantern festival, the young Emperor, in disguise, encountered the Ji Family. The members of the Ji Family hurriedly saluted, but the young Emperor quickly waved his hand, gesturing for them to dispense with formalities. Only then did he scan the crowd, realizing with a start that his little darling wasn’t among them!
"Where’s Suisui? Where’s... my little girl? Did you lose her?!"
