The peculiar behavior of Xie Pan’Er and her mother did not escape the notice of those present.
The First Madam of the Xie Family was even more panicked, her expression turning exceedingly grim.
"Everyone, this is a private affair of the Xie Family. It has nothing to do with you, so please do not interfere."
"Family matter?" A smirk touched Zhu Xiuxiu’s lips. "First Madam Xie, have you perhaps forgotten what the Emperor said before he departed?"
"What did he say?" First Madam Xie blurted out instinctively.
Xie Yingying immediately interjected, "The Emperor said that those who are unaware are not to be blamed."
The members of the Xie Family quickly chimed in, "That’s right, the Emperor said those who are unaware are not to be blamed!"
Xie Yinghui added, "You can all leave our Xie Family now. You are not welcome here!"
"Hmph! Your memories are truly poor! The Emperor just issued a decree, ordering us to handle the matters here. Since we are to manage this, we must naturally investigate thoroughly everything that happened with the Princess since her arrival, until the entire sequence of events is clear."
"You... Don’t you push things too far!"
First Madam Xie was furious. She roared, ordering someone to fetch her husband.
"Go quickly! Fetch the Master! Tell him that his wife and children are being bullied, and that both his daughter and son are seriously injured!"
Hearing First Madam Xie’s command, a young servant boy quickly ran towards the outer courtyard.
"First Madam Xie, as you’ve said, both your son and daughter are seriously injured. I advise you not to delay. Clarify matters quickly so we can report back on our commission, and you can also find someone to treat your children’s injuries. Don’t you agree?"
After Ji Youze finished speaking, First Madam Xie stated coldly, "Until my husband arrives, I will not utter another word to you. My husband is, after all, a Junior Minister of the Guanglu Temple, holding a Fifth Grade official rank. What are your positions? By what right do you interrogate our Xie Family?"
Having said this, First Madam Xie felt a surge of relief and satisfaction. She had been momentarily frightened by the Emperor’s arrival, which had allowed these strangers to act so boldly! Now that she had thought things through, her arrogance returned.
"Is that so? Then I’d like to see how Xie Shaoying will explain these matters of your Xie Family to us when he arrives."
"Explain? My husband is a Junior Minister of the Guanglu Temple. Are his family’s affairs for outsiders like you to pass judgment on? If you know what’s good for you, leave at once! If you don’t, then don’t blame my husband for being stern with you when he arrives!"
"Everyone, pay close attention to what First Madam Xie just said, and remember it well. When Xie Shaoying arrives, let’s all see how he intends to be ’stern’ with us."
At Ji Youze’s words, Zhu Xiuxiu remained noncommittal, but Huo Xing’Er raised an eyebrow.
This Xie Family is quite interesting today, Huo Xing’Er mused. Of the two young ladies of marriageable age, one has features indicating deep fortune and blessings, yet she’s treated like a mere maid. The other has features suggesting a short life and a harsh disposition; she’s arrogant, domineering, and unbelievably insolent. Yet, strangely, her body seems to faintly carry some aura of fortune and Qi. Her physiognomy is bizarre, and the situation defies logic.
Ah, if only I could ask for the birth dates and times of these two young ladies and perform a calculation, I could surely uncover the reasons behind all this.
Just as Huo Xing’Er was pondering this, the voice of a middle-aged man boomed from outside.
"Which scoundrels are daring to act so wantonly in my Xie Family? Do you think you can bully my Xie Family just because we lack connections in the Imperial Court? Let me tell you, my Xie Family is not to be trifled with! If you know what’s good for you, get out now! Otherwise, I’ll immediately have someone report this to the Shuntian Prefecture Government Office, have you all arrested, and thrown into the main prison for a year or so to teach you a lesson!"
