Isabella leaned forward a bit. "Mythical... Incubus? I’ve never even heard of that bloodline before." Liliana looked toward Seraphina. "You?" Seraphina shook her head slowly. "I’ve studied almost all the bloodlines possible in this universe, but I have never seen that one listed anywhere." Everly looked confused. "Is it some kind of rare but extinct bloodline? But that would not explain the part where Ethan said that no one else can have a similar bloodline." "I have never heard of an incubus either, and that says something as I have heard of the other races, so us being elves, which is still shocking, but it is manageable," Evelyn added. "But an incubus... is it some kind of a title, or something similar?" Ethan stayed quiet. He didn’t offer more. He knew better than to explain what even they didn’t have context for yet. Elowen’s brows furrowed as she stepped closer. "Ethan... where did you learn about this bloodline?" He looked up at her. "I found out about it on the night the bloodline awakened. I didn’t know what it was before then. It was like something just... clicked. The moment I turned eighteen, it felt like something that was always there finally opened up." She studied his expression, but again, he was steady. Calm. He wasn’t bragging. He wasn’t trying to make himself sound mysterious. He was just... being honest. "But I don’t get it," Isabella said, sitting back on the couch. "We’ve seen royal lines. Ancient ones. Even cursed ones. But that name doesn’t show up in any registry or council record I’ve ever seen." "That’s because it wouldn’t," Lilith finally said. Everyone turned toward her. Her voice had been soft, but it carried weight. And she wasn’t looking at them anymore. "Follow me," She said. She then turned and walked out of the room without another word. Isabella blinked. "Um... did she just leave?" Ethan frowned slightly. "Where is she going?" "She didn’t look upset," Seraphina said. "More like she knew about this bloodline." "’Knew’ would be an understatement," Liliana muttered, already standing. "Come on." One by one, they all got up and followed. Lilith’s footsteps were soft as she made her way through the hallway and up the stairs. No one spoke as they followed her up, watching as she passed familiar doors and walked all the way to the far side of the second floor, where the study was kept. She stopped outside the door for just a moment. Then she pushed it open and stepped inside. It was a large room, full of old wooden bookshelves, a dark marble floor, and thick curtains draped near tall windows. The scent of parchment and polished wood hung in the air. They all followed her in quietly. Lilith didn’t say anything. She moved straight to the farthest shelf, near the back right corner of the room. Then, without looking at any of them, she snapped her fingers once. The door behind them clicked shut. And in the same breath, a soft shimmer passed through the air—barely visible, but clear to everyone with awakened senses. A barrier. Isabella blinked. "You just sealed the room?" Lilith nodded slightly. "No sound leaves. No energy escapes." Ethan didn’t feel threatened. No one did. But the energy in the room shifted again. This wasn’t just about conversation anymore. This was something old. Something secret. "What are you doing?" Seraphina asked quietly. Lilith didn’t answer yet. She moved toward one of the tall shelves along the back wall. Her fingers hovered just above the spine of a worn, deep brown book that looked untouched. There was no dust. No signs of age. But the way she reached for it, slow and deliberate, made it feel like something important. Then she touched the top edge of the book. A crackling sound echoed softly, like glass breaking underwater. They all heard it. A faint pink shimmer appeared around the book, then shattered like a delicate shell. Elowen’s eyes widened a bit. "There was another barrier placed for the book?" Lilith nodded. "Placed on this book when we came to this world and built this house. I haven’t touched it since." Ethan raised an eyebrow. "Why?" "Because it wasn’t time," Lilith said. She gently tilted the top of the book forward. There was a soft hiss. As she did, the wall behind the shelf began to hum faintly, and then, with a quiet creak, the entire shelf split cleanly down the middle. The book she held separated evenly with it, as if it had been part of the mechanism the entire time. But then something strange happened. The book didn’t stay in her hand. It floated. Slowly, gently, it rose from her fingers and hovered in the air, perfectly centered between the two halves of the shelf. A low vibration pulsed through the room, soft and steady, like a heartbeat. The air felt heavier but not dangerous, just full—full of something old. Then, before their eyes, the book began to change. It grew. Not in a sudden burst, but gradually. As if stretching from its original size, it lengthened, widened, and thickened until it reached the size of a full adult person, something that looked like a massive book. Its spine glowed faintly now. Not bright. Just enough to show fine, silver-etched lines along the leather cover, patterns that hadn’t been there before. Everyone watched in silence. Then, without anyone touching it, the book opened on its own. Its pages fluttered once—twice—then stopped at a thick middle section. A thin beam of light emerged from the center seam and reached outward. Then, right in front of the group, a flat light screen appeared in the space between the book and the open wall behind it. It hovered like a scroll pulled tight, glowing, readable, and alive. Symbols began to shift across the light. Ancient language, something no one, even Elowen, had ever seen. No one said anything. They just stared, waiting for what came next.
